1.
this is posted elsewhere but I think it's appropriate to repost given the thread title From left to right: Status Series 1 5 String (modded with Aguilar OBP-3) Stuart Spector Design NS-94 1982 Ibanez Roadster RS824BB Aria Pro II Super Bass II 1980 Vantage VA-900B (modded with SD 1/4lb'ers and Aguilar OBP-3 running at 18V) '97 Warwick Corvette (German), Wenge neck, Bubinga body I also have a 1990 Warwick Streamer 5 string (neck thru with Barts) but that is currently under restoration so will post some pics of that once it's finished.
That Aria is really nice....
2. Well, here are three of mine. A 1979 SD Curlee Curbeck, the custom semi acoustic built by Rob Crocker in the 80's and rendered useable by AndyJR1515 of this parish about three months ago, and a Kramer 450B.
3. Nice bass that. The best one they made IMHO. GLWTS
4. Just bought Sasha's SD Curlee. He could not have made it easier. Great transaction. Recommended.
5. So, having got back to the UK at the weekend, I finally got to play the bass. I really am over the moon with it. The bass plays beautifully and sounds great. The neck repair and the handy addition of the control cavity cover have been done very well indeed. It was, essentially, a paperweight before Andy worked on it. Now I can't put it down. Sincere thanks for doing this Andy. I cannot recommend your work enough.
6. That is a lovely bass. As has been noted, a snip at this price. I have a single pickup Wilkes and it is a magnificent device. GLWTS.
7. Just seen this. When the headstock fell off, I'd probably have binned it all there and then. The fact that you managed to turn it around into a unique and rather beautiful instrument does you great credit. Well done Bastav.
8. This might be a really stupid question- but it looks to me like the walnut stringers go right through the neck- so you can see them under the strings. Is that correct or am I imagining things?
9. Hello there. Lovely bass. Always had a soft spot for these. Would you be kind enough to post a picture of the bridge without the ashtray? I'm trying not to be interested in buying this, but I really am......:0)
10. Why has this not sold? It's lovely, unusual, and a steal at this price.
11. I've used Graham Parker quite often. If you google Graham Parker luthier you'll find him. He's very good, and a nice chap. Down south in Lewisham.
12.
I've got the Spectrum LX which has the same EQ options (except on mine the Volume is a push pull pot for In Phase/Out of Phase). The Active Tone should do nothing until you engage it using the Active On/Off toggle switch, at which point clockwise rotation from centre position should boost treble (which seems to offer a fixed boost as you sweep through a range of frequencies) and counter-clockwise rotation from centre position should boost bass (again it sounds like this is across a range of frequencies). The centre position of the active tone is not flat, there's definitely a change in character as soon as you engage the active tone. On mine, the other mini toggle switch is a coil tap which offers a sound closer to a single coil instead of a humbucker, though my bass is a P/J pickup configuration. My bass has an 18v circuit and if the Thunder II is the same you need to check that both batteries are supplying power correctly before consigning the active EQ to the dustbin (eg. there could be a problem with one of the battery clips). EDIT: Here's a circuit diagram for the electronics: http://www.westone.i...bass/index.html
Many thanks for posting. Righto then. Multimeter on, hyperdrive engaged....
13. Thanks gents. Looks like I'll be going ahead then!
14. Anyone got one? What are they like? Thinking of getting one for a project as they seem to be pretty reasonable even with VAT and carriage from the US. Best S
15. ah! Boom Boom! The amps are in Suffolk. Courier would be £15 (TNT next day).
16. QSC PLX 1202. Ex hire in good condition. These do 325 into 4 stereo or 1200 into 4 bridged. A cheap, reliable and great sounding amp. PM me if interested. Stuart
17. Thanks Andy. Yes, that would make sense. Could be time for a new active circuit!
18. Morning all, I wonder if anyone can help me with this. I have a (very nice) Westone Thunder II. It has three pots, and three micro switches, and of course the pickup selector switch. From closest to the headstock the pots are volume, tone, and a centre indented knob that does not seem to do anything; this I assume is the active tone boost. I'm not really sure what any of the micro switches do, but the bottom one (closest to the bridge) appears to turn the guitar on and off, but again, this may be to do with the active circuit not working. I've had a look in the back of the bass. The batteries are new, and they seem to be sending 9v everywhere they should. Anyone got any troubleshooting ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance. Stuart
