1.
To me, the current leader in the poll (without giving anything away) sounds like it has been smothered with a pillow!
, I don't happen to agree , but there was one out there that I thought was mixed under a blanket , I reckon you must have thought that one was mixed underwater
2. Rather than judge the mixes against my own , I have now listened to far too much Conferderate Railroad, Shania Twain ,Randy Travis and Garth Brooks . Whilst I am now halfway through my second bottle of JD , the crop has just failed , the car has been repo'd and the dog has run off with the wife, the experience however, has pointed me at the mix to vote for
3.
I don't understand how saying his mix is "too good" amongst a bunch of rookies is harsh? I didn't want to vote for the pro, because I thought the hobbyist might appreciate the vote more.
The way I see it is that I am learning , and while I think my mix cuts it this month , the winner gets to explain how he did it and we all learn , this is not a popularity contest it is a learning resource .
4.
If it's any consolation, I thought I did a good mix (thought the low & top could be better, but I'm deaf) & I have no votes either. I still think mines' the best mix, but like was said earlier, that's probably because I'm used to hearing it like that. Too many of the other mixes has the vocal sounding a bit Elvisish, whereas I think he sounds more like Steve Earle.
Good call , I will have to do some more country referencing before I decide , I don't think it is worth voting for a country song mix which sounds D&B , just because you are into D&B at the moment
5. Good luck , I hope it works out , I guess my claim to fame may well be being post #4 in its conception
6.
The drum fills could do with more swing though [bit straight] just my opinion of course Although it is really hard to swing Midi parts for that Jazz thing. But good stuff.
Thanks for that Garry , do you mean looser in the timing playing off the beat kind of thing , or varying the actual timing itself ? I might have half a chance of getting the sticks out again ,
7. Interesting thought on the voting strategy , but don't lose sight of the philosophy behind the 'competition' it is a learning resource that participants can play along with and in turn develop their skills in the mixing process. I didn't particularily need to know , but I think the idea is that you do vote for the one that you do think is mixed the best , so that if it wins, you get to find out how it was done , and therefore learn something ed for spilug
8. It is Poor form Milt , and I do jest , but with a bit of the referencing I did ,and the amount of tinkering ,I just happen to have my version stuck in my head and everything else sounds like an ammended version of mine
9. Cheers Si, It must be a PITA , bust I appreciatte the work you put in . I would offer myself but My speeds are dog slow here , and I have had a couple of issues myself with soundcloud seeming to time out , Maybe I could stop late at work sometime , if it comes to it I could probably do it that way , to take a turn . Is it poor form to vote for your own , I am not sure if it is because I listened to my version sooooooo many times , it feels like the original now, and I always think the original sounds best
10.
+1 to this. You are letting your bandmates down..... Now get back out there and start asking random girls for handjobs!
How random do these girls have to be , but while we are chatting , any chance
11. it is a simple contract , player provides goods / services for an agreed fee , simple . what any individual gets out of the deal is of no consequence , except to the individual. If at a future point in time you have reason to believe you are worth more , then renegotiate if you can, but it boils down to value and available resources, a bit of a poker game if you let it get that way.
12. Great post PAINY , I think it difficult to pick up personality from a recording , competence maybe , but personality is surely something you get from a person . Individuals show their personality when they play , it maybe one of total concentration, smiling joviality , closed eyed groove , head banging dizziness or even a BigREDX , so we all show our personality when we play , and if we are doing a show , then our personality may even be hidden by our 'persona'. It is an odd concept to me , I am who I am , but if I am playing someone else , then that is who I am trying to be . But as I do mainly covers , I entertain , and if my onstage personality fits the band, the image and the material , the notes I play do not really convey my personality.
13. Now that is clever , and beautiful , but is all the re-tuning with the special heads necessary ? Ed to add I watched the previous tube , where he explained the guitar , now that is great , and there was some very interesting stuff in his explanation .... BUT... he spent the entire time fiddling with the tuning and it really started to bore the pants off me . so is this a case of art or entertaninment etc....
14. is it the TYPE of bass you are after or THE bass you sold ? did you note model numbers etc or are you just hoping memories will help ?
15. Our Rhythm is fantastic at this stuff , while we tend not to play covers sooooo analy that retuning more than a string or two is needed , at rehearsal he will demonstrate some the tunings he has picked up , and he has a great ear for it , top fun .
16. to be fair , it is a 2 second trick , even without a hipshot , which I did consider , but my pedal board has a tuner and it is very straightforward , as long as you remember to tune it back , though I am getting used to playing up a couple of frets until I get a chance on an open string to let me wind it back in
17. A quick drop D is all I use occasionally , but the times I forget to wind it back up
18.
Another thing that might be good would be to have the logo/slogan on one side towards your shoulder so that people wouldn't have to stare directly at your breasts in order to read it! :-)
Apple have a new product for that based on the ipod , the i-breast , it is especially for issues when women complain that blokes keep staring at their breasts and not listening to them .
19. Excellent stuff BlackDog , Can you post up the event details and I will add it to the map
20. it is a great song and comes across really well as it is TBH , it sounds clean and crisp , a fuller version might be good also , but I like this anyway .
21. Niges comment on the track fits very well ..........superb , I really enjoyed that . I shall keep my ears out for the album
22. I don't know enough about that , but I had the same thought with mine.
23. Cheers Paul , I try, but I am starting by attempting to keep it simple and trying at least 1 technique each time I open up Reaper .
24. Cheers all , some great Ideas , I am leaning towards the Hercules jobbies , as I can tilt them to 45 degrees and stack them a bit tighter , those climbing grips look doody , but alas I am afraid of heights . I shall consider a little longer then make a decision when I am told what I am allowed .
25.
If the body is very close to the wall then the standard round door stops or amp feet will be perfect. recessed screw holes to. A quick look round any hardware store will give you lots of ideas and solutions. It might be better if they did touch the body. This will be more stable. Only drawback with this is just make sure your body finish wont be tainted or react with the rubber or whatever. A
I am with you totally , you have helped evolve the idea , I have since googled some closed cell foam stuff , and that is up to 20mm thick , and might be a little more aesthetic if cut to shape . Mrs Lurks might be a tad , shall we say , objectionable , to having door stops screwed all over our brand new brickwork . Custom made always wins if compared to B&Q , even if who is doing the customising is not entirely transparant . excellent point about the contact point reaction , I will investigate that one .
