1.
I believe Hagstrom are re-issuing their 8 string, as used by Hendrix amongst others
They have and i loved the thing when i played one, and the newest ones are mahogany instead of Nato. Price isnt too bad either.
2. It is really weird; would the exact playing style have anything to do with how quickly they die off?? Its funny how ive always found rotos to last really well and EBs to die... Might just be in my head and being a snob for british strings :-D
3. Tried them again for the first time in years, and still dissapointed with them, they seem to sound great for all of ten minutes then turn dead in no time; I usually use rotosounds and never had problems with them, once had a set of Optimas on my status and they were the dogs bollocks; however are so expensive it makes you want to cry. Just wondering if its just me who kills EB strings, or if people have the same problem...also i want to know if people like them and if they dont experience the same problems as myself. Cheers Chris
4. Would highly recomend the highway1's...they sound awsome and are a great price. (PIC:-Sunburst jazz on the right of avatar) Also the parts are USA made which is bonus (if i remember rightly they make the body and neck in the states then send it to mexico for assembely) And the new ones are already fitted with a badass bridge. Sadly the machine heads are plain "economy" style ones, the same they use on squiers...they get the job done but i could recomend replacing them.
5. Relic'd means beaten to sh*t if something thinks it will make an instrument worth more Theres a fine line between a good relic job and obliterated. wtf is up with the burning??
6. Played quite a few...my Mex 5 stringer has never had any problems like that at all (becides that after years of playing its now forming that dreaded hairline crack from the truss rod hole)...been reliable and sounds better than a couple of USA's ive played if im honest. I have a friend who bought the 70's style one when they first came out...never wanted to say it to him, but i thought that one in particular was sh*te. Simple things like the side dots were out of place, and the block markers were wonky. and you could feel the skunk stripe pertruding out the back of the neck where it hadnt been sanded properly...Also the sound of his one is just a muddy blur- not what you expect from a jazz bass. (Also i suppose it doesnt help that he doesnt know a thing about setting his gear up and tries to make adjustments to stuff that doesnt need to be changed) So i have to agree with post people, they really are hit and miss, and with bridges- Badass is always the way to go IMO
7. £100 for anyone in london who would meet me half way (i'm NE London/Essex....romford...on the cusp)
8.
that last one looks pretty cool
Looks like a copy of one of the newer BC riches...(theyve started using wood in their korean factory instead of chipboard)...although...that ones probably better for not being a Rich lol...The K.A pickups are an awsome bonus aswell The third one is just plain hideous!, i think id prefer to walk in on my parents doing it than see that thing again!!
9. Bought a rare part off of howard at easter, no hassle at all, got my bit quick, nice guy to deal with...if in need of any obscure parts will contact him again no doubt.
10. possibly been mensioned beforehand... (From experience) Another thing to make sure of after telling him to hike (in the appropriate nice way of course); that all the other guys in the band would be honest with him if he asks the ol' classic of "do YOU still want me in the band"...then alot of people ive played with seem to turn to chicken sh*t and say that grand sentence "i said it was up to XXXXX, i didnt mind whether you were in or not"....when just 5 minutes ago on the phone to you theyre saying "damn happy we got rid of XXXX he was a bit crap werent he? That way they cover their own behind and try to drop you in it...(if your the one who tells him of course).... Nearlly headbutted the guitarist in a previous band for that after we sacked a singer who was trying to transform us into a journey tribute band (nothing againt journey; just we were obsessed with the Zep at the time)
11. I would love to put my nose in between 'em and go motorboating...would probably break my shnoz but it would be damn worth it!
12.
When I joined an originals touring band back in 80/81 I decided I needed a quality bass (even though I couldn't play that well), borrowed the full £595.00 from my parents and bought a new WAL Custom.
I'd more than willingly pay £595 for a Wal Custom...anything out of a custom shop now is double that at least (something like a status S-1 is about 800-900 if i remember right) And it seems Rickenbackers have stayed the same price then plus inflation
13. ME50b multi-effects, still got manual and box, no power adapter but can pick one up for you if you want. Couple scratches on the back, never been gigged, just practice rooms, (foam no longer in box, but will pack out with different foam if needed to be posted) Reason for selling is that all i use on it is the volume pedal, chorus and once in a blue moon (i mean unbeleivably rarely) compression...so i dont see the point of a full multi-effects... Don't know postage costs yet however will find out if theres any interest Would like to trade for a T-Rex Sweeper Bass Chorus (theyre about the same price new) would concider other chorus pedal as trades or half trade and cash... Cost; well just sensible offers really...will post, but like i say dont know how much it might be, would arrange to meet for pickup for anyone in london Cheers Chris PS will try and get picturs if required
14. very slighly of the topic of selling the bass....do you need to drill new holes to get the schaller bridge on from the origional bridge? been meaning to change the bridge on my 5 for years now and never really got round to it
15. i have had a set of Schaller BML on it without changing the bushings which was great, majorly improved the tension...its more of a cosmetic thing to be honest...would epoxying around the schaller bushing to lump it up be a good idea or am i just thinking too hard over it?...the lip of the bushing is large so it covers the hole completely, so it could work....or then again as i said am i just being too picky?
16. Hey guys (and some girls no doubt) want to replace the machine head bushings mainly (i hate the cheapo ones they slap on them) but because theyre so chunky, a standard schaller 17.5 bushing is too small because these crappy korean (or whatever) made bushings are so chunky... Has anyone changed their machine heads and bushings on their Fender Highway1's, Mexicans? and i think even squiers use the same sh*te machine heads... Just need to get rid of these things lol Cheers Chris
17. the one i used was a sparkly one with the P-H config...and i think you probably are lol...each to their own i spose
18. Ah i love marlin threads!...i learned to play on the one in my old school before i got my first...i'm so happy i didnt own it, i would have prefered to vomit in my own shoe then walk around in them for the day
19. im another for gold annodised...but personaly, tort (the more brown as apposed to the uber red) looks far better.
20. Would think it should be cheaper, as much as Brit Labour is more pricey than yanky, theres no import costs for a monster weight valve head...providing this is the one they ARE making in the UK...god i hope so
21. I think this is the valve head that Ashdown said they were releasing for the UK/Euro Market...The USA ones were made out there to snap up the loyal Ampeg players who were disgusted that they moved the factory to Vietnam (or somewhere like that...could have sworn it was vietnam though)...looks better than the VBA400, and if english engineered then will make you feel better for owning one Im going to be MEGA skint when this thing comes out!
22. Wouldnt trade for an ungigged Combo of the same specs by any chance?? (Ashdown ABM, 410 etc) haha...got no chance have i
23. What i did with mine (JazzV) was put on another string retainer over the B and E strings...Place it quite close to the nut and it clarified that muddy sod more than i expected it to. Its another way of messing with the break angle thing.
