1. I found when i was in the same situation to just dive along to local jam nights, (suggested by others already i know) first couple of times i didnt even take my bass and just chatted to some other musicians getting to know them and to find out the sort of tracks im likely to be able to play with other people, then after that i started playing with random guys (and girls) and it is all in all a great laugh
2. Welcome to basschat (from yet another londoner), Enjoy the site, its fantastically useful
3. Hey pete, might have this off of you aswell, will know about cash within the next couple of days (the ol' man might be able to lend it to me), with message you soon Chris
4. I bought a Rickenbacker 4001 of off Pete last friday, brilliant bloke to deal with, made me a spot on cup of tea and showed me the ins and outs of the intrument, im now the proud owner of my first Rick Should the moment arise i wouldnt hesitate to deal with Pete again, Thanks for a fantastic instrument! Cheers Chris
5. No problems at all!, It's a fantastic instrument and just hope i dishonour it with my playing
6. Still for sale, been used for one gig now however is in same condition. Still after valvey trades or £500 ono
7. Mine was a brilliant father son moment, I was about 12 and he decided to show me some decent music (as i was listening to slipknot) and just cracked on Zeppelins Good Times Bad Times through his LP player, i'd played a little guitar and bass in school, but after that i decided on the bass because it just really appealed. Now im a mega classic rock man an JPJ is one of my favorate players :-D
8. Will get some current, up to date pictures of it up here soon, I had it for sale ages ago, ending up selling it now have it back (again lol) Its a 1971 Fender mustang bass, blue with competition stripe, maple neck, rosewood fretboard etc I want to trade for something in the way of a fretless Fender (jazz or P i dont mind, just preferably USA) or Even Better would be an 8 string bass (Noel Redding sorta 8 string not some enormous behemoth with a neck of 8 separate strings) Its not all original and is battle scarred, (will be shown in pics as soon as i get them up) One Replacment string post (era correct) and a new screw in the back of one of the machine heads, Non origional string ferrules. And the nut is a precision bass Tusq nut filed down to fit (this bass is 40mm at the nut as apposed to the Jap reisssue's are 38 like a jazz bass) It has got the original pickup, and as far as i know everything else (barr the above) is origional Just it for a gig yesturday and it did sound lovely, but i want to try out something else. Anyone interested before i get hold of pictures then feel free to message or email me. currently strung with a set of Rotosound Flats (45-105), they are long scale strings but of course work fine on the bass
9. I find to make it look like your not just staring at your neck; read the whats on the bottles behind the bar if you can... gives people the impression that your looking towards someone at the back when all your doing is deciding what your having when youve finished lol Thankfully on my jazz i can play alot of things without looking at the neck all of the time, this is just because im so used to it....any other bass however, even another jazz i cant seem to do the same on
10. I think they look great! Theyre like a super cool looking Jazz with a 2band EQ (not saying Jazz's arent cool looking enough to begin with) Although i would love to mod one to have a pair of Jazz-Humbuckers (like rio-grande powerbuckers or something) Change the pickup on/off switches to Single/Humbucking Switches for each pickup and possibly change the third for a Midrand Boost switch or something.
11. It's a big Block precision, they have a similar Jazz humbucker on the USA Deluxe Precisions, also, Wizard Pickups make a JHumbucker, Rio grande do, and i know for certain quite a few other companies are building them aswell. I dont think theyre making the BBP's anymore but you might be able to get one off of evilbay or some places may still have them in stock
12.
For the price they're asking you could get 3 much better basses!
And still have enough moolah left over to head down the pub
13. I think they look kinda like an obliterated stingray made in an LSD tab dropping "special school"... What a piece of sh*te! any one got any idead exactly what country theyre made in?? For the price theyre asking you can get much better basses...
14. To everyone waiting on new pictures i appologise its all been a bit slow atm....the ubercamera i was going to borrow has left the country (darn holidaying people), am attempting to get some more good pictures of the little crack however alll the cameras im using cant seem to pick it up.
15. I honestly do think i get more 'enjoyment' scrolling through this thread than i do watching porn
16. Back up for sale...ill assume the guy who as going to have it no longer wants it and doesnt seem to want to message me back is after other basses on here... Would prefer sale due to wanting new amp.
17. i'd go for the Matamps just based on the fact i everything about them and ampegs arent made in the states anymore (if i recall correctly) But if your getting complimented and it sounds good; i wouldnt knock it
18.
It's not drop C!!!! It's - C-F-B♭-E♭- actually 2 steps down
Thats what i meant lol...thats the tuning i played with aswell; i would recommend the Boomers
19. I used to play in a stoner doom band using the same tuning; for ages i used 50-110's, but they just slightly too floppy... Try and get hold of a set of GHS boomers with a 115gauge E string. I used em and found it was perfect for the drop C Hope this helps
20.
Why bother when you can get a 'proper' used Stingray for the same money ?
Make youi absolutely right lol Really didnt think of that, just i remember them being advertised in BGM
