  1. I agree with loads of you guys on the, Burns, Burns/Baldwin, Hayman, Shergold, Wal... I think pretty much all of us would trade any american classic for a Wal any day I certainly would...
  2. hey littlewing...for a low C i've found a 115 will have similar tension to a 100 gauge tuned to an E, as for the rest of your strings, you'll want the strings you usually would get in a 50-110 pack of Roto's or something like that....GHS do a Boomers pack which is 50-115...thats probably your best bet. Or if you cant get hold of GHS's then a 5 string pack of 35-120 or similarly light should do you alright....however the bass will never be able to be tuned to E standard ha ha... hope this helps
  3. Got to love Fenders, origional is best really (i'm aware about the audiovox etc but it wasn't the real deal haha) ... But i do love my Status Graphite because it could take a 50 foot drop and probably stay in tune Main Bass is Fender Highway1 Jazz though

  5. whats the cheapest i could pick up an orange for?? i know theyre mega money usually...and second hand ones dont appear very often, i suppose thats a good sign to how good they are...do love the sound of them
  6. well theres my answer then :-)....get a 100, for small usage get some sensitive speakers and when i want things bigger, power amp the b*stard and get the same tone but sheds louder...cheers guys, will probably soon get a old marshall from ebay
  7. Make you right...look at lemmy, hes using a 100watt 1992 re-issue...and motorhead aren't exactly quiet :-D......if i plug it up to some good speakers i don't think i'll really have a problem...Lem uses a 4x15 cab and 4x12 cabs, so if i try and go for say, a 2x15 and a 2x12 or 2x10, would that be sufficient?
  8. that being the case then, am i better off saving up my pennies and going for one of the more powerful head?
  9. Sounds good to me, will i be able to compete in volume to my mate's (Gu***rist) Marshall JCM 50watt thing....because that can be a bit of a monster
  10. Cheers for the help guys, greatly appreciated; the 100 watts isnt a problem, thats all i'll really need i thinks...in general are valve amp's louder than SS?...that being the case 100 is plenty...do the vintage Marshalls appear on ebay often?? or do i need to finance my liver and get one in quick? haha Cheers Greene Mann
  11. Hey guys, just as most of us do at some point, i have caught the vintage bug, as much as i do love my ashdown (ABM Valve Pre thing) , i just dont think it sounds "vintage" enough (hate the expression but i think you'll know what i mean)....About a year or so ago i did play through a yonks old marshall super bass 100 oojemeflip, and thought it really sounded the dogs... so what i'd like a bit of help with is; does the new marshall VBA400 compare to the super bass in sound? or does the Fender 300 watt all valver give the sound i'm after, or even the new but seeminly difficault to find Ashdown BTA400? or even an orange... I have tried ampegs, but someone will want to kill me for this: i'm not too keen and i really don't know why... I know theres a thread on the difference in sound from a SS and a Valvey, some of what people says hints at what i'm looking to find out, but any info would be awsome. (Also for future reference, if i find out what i need, i'll probably be shifting the Ashdown to make room for it) Cheers. Greene Mann

  14. Sounds like a cool idea, however can you send me some pics and the dimensions so i can double check they'll be ok before i buy?
  15. I've looked for retro-fits and cant find any for these specifically... its an old american one, made 17th march '71 not a reissue ....sadly however the g-lee style ones are shaped like the ones used on Fenders after 1974...these style ones (although similar shaped) have totally different dimentions (see pics & i measured up dimenions)...bit of a bar steward really cheers for the input though (left my mustang, right a 70's jazz bass, same style as Geddy's)
  16. Hey guys wondering if you could help me out here, i recently got hold of a 1971 Fender mustang bass, all electronics work fine, and amazingly its still got the string mute bracket on it! (most ive seen have them removed) but over the years its been abused immensely, the string ferrules have been knocked out and the nuts been removed....but worst of all some B*****d has removed the string post & cog-like-bit (someone please imform me of the technical term) from one of the machine heads! ..... anyone got any ideas where i could either get a single one of these seeminly impossible to find (or when you do people want an arm and a leg for the set) machine heads, or even easier for me a string post and "cog" that would fit properly into the machine head...i've tried the cog bit from a schaller BM but the teeth arent long enough therefore make that horrible scraping noise... ... Bass Doc Sorted out the part for me...
