These were at LIMS last year and we ordered a semi Tele off them, like this: http://www.dawsons.co.uk/acatalog/farida_ftc-32.html VERY nice guitar, shoots way over it's price range. They don't sell very well though unfortunately or we'd have had more in. They're definitely very nice though.
tis a shame..thing is there are sooo many jazz copies with names that seem very generic....including Farida...i wouldnt have looked twice to be honest....i was very impressed though...
Hi bubinga5, Can you confirm the price you quoted first off? £380 doesn't match the web-site. Ta. Balcro.
hello mate....I was told £380.00 something.... and that erm...was on the price tag on the bass....cant remember exactly...the site price is not accurate for reasons i dont know...it was under £390.00 i know that much... looks like they dropped the 10%
I think they're all kinda Jag shaped, smaller lower horn Whats the quality like? action etc Do you know what P.U.'s they use? Where they built UK/Korea etc? ....i'm semi interested myself as i'm missing having a 4 string passive jazz at the mo and can't really afford anything too pricey - i wonder how it compares to my Laky JO5....and i'd have to order online so no try before buy unfortunately. Good find though bro.
yeah i guess so...First impressions were it was light...Looked the bass over and the neck pocket was tight. and for a sub 500 its was a very well put together bass, but as always try before buy.....the bass is made in China (that always troubles me) dont know about the pups....y sh I had a USA 75 RI and i would take this over that any day....Just superb tone....ive played many top end passive jazzers and this was up with if not better than them...how do they do it? i will say that i noticed the fingerboard radius was very shallow/flat with no FB rolling... Ive heard your JO5 Lee and its very nice.would like one of those bad boys some day..i think you will like these if your looking for a budget Jazz bro...not sure how well it work with your sound though..didnt get to see how versatile it was...unless you want something funky... BTW hows Dan...you still in Steppaz with him?
Dude, seriously drop Andy at wizard a line and ask for a gaffer, seriously good split coil jazz pickup. I'm laid up with man flu but when I'm about your'e welcome to try mine out. But it might be worth seeing if he'll let you try one on approval.
Gaf i would seriously appreciate if i could maybe sometime try yours when your better...you being down the road and all. didnt get the chance to bore you with bass talk at the frog!!!

and the doctor calls... CK, do you have any recommendations of what i should look out for? what sort of winding/design, give a low end resonancy peak..im in awe of some BC'ers knlowledge
hmmm interesting. I like splits for the hum-cancel but can't see why they would have less low down grunt. Maybe your examples did have, but I think a winder can make the pickups do anything he wants..with the amount of winds he uses and the gauge of coil. My preference is for a single case, less winds but thicker coil as this, IMV, gives the sound a chance to display more character as opposed to more winds being a more powerful pickup and therefore being more coloured bass-wise. I only say this as I had KA wind me some examples and he was telling me about the work he did for other pup makers. I had a massive humbucker which was LOUD but souless..and then I also had him copy his work for a few name makers and their tone was far superior to my ears... not louder, but superior. If coupled with a pre, this is ALWAYS the route I would take... I think you can add bass but never take it off so I start there. FWIW.. I have KA pups with an East pre and the thump I get from that is unbelievable ..and it fills out the mix really really well. But for pure sound, I prefer the Barts and East. That is just my take on it all...
Just get the feeling my Jazz could have a little more depth and low down punch...it a complicated issue as im sure there are a few issues that could be the deciding factor...IE..strings i use DR MM's... amp i use a 212....why is there not a bass doctor who you can take your bass to for a checkup.. i am toying with putting a pre in it but not really sure i want to... i wish i had infinate knowledge on these things... i do think of giving J Shuker or M Peterson a call, but i dont/wouldnt want to waste there time...

Can anyone say if there is any difference in tone from single coil to split coil pickups.(apart from hum canceling) ...my specific Q is do split coil pickups take away any low down grunt...i played a few jazzez today with single coil pups and they seem to have more bass than my CS with Nordstand splits.... im wondering if i should change my Nordies for some singles...any thought's?

Im working in Chester at the moment and went into Dawsons music about half an hour ago....They got a few basses, but i wanted to play a 2010 Fender...Tried a squire in Lake Placid blue that was ok...Looked fabulous...Then i picked up the Fender and loved it...A lovely off white with a killer tone... Then the guy asked me to check out an unknown (to me) bass by Farida.. I sh*t you not i was blown away...Way better tone than the Fender...The best passive jazz ive ever heard....I just couldnt believe how good this bass sounded..very big output, the growl on this thing was immense,..awsome honk when rolling off the front pup...strangly it didnt seem to thin out the tone........i would go as far to say it sounded better than my Custom shop... the swamp ash body prob helps...the bass didnt sound harsh in any way, very smooth creamy sound.... And the price...£380 or there abouts....apparently there made by the same people who make Squires...i was so impressed im thinking about buying one....They look a little like Jag's with the shorter bottom horn... anyone tried one? Seriously Mel.....you can understand why your first post was a little baffling and unspecific... You would prob get a gig if you told us a little more...
£250 makes me very sad! I dont remember exactly what I paid for it, but it was in the region of £300-400 six years ago! was hoping that it would keep its value as they're not made anymore and are very good bass's. And I found out my mesa 400+ is more poorly than I thought today! not good
Not many basses keep there value...why would they?
Then check out Talkbass for some extremely unhappy customers.
yeah seen this... but its not a dead cert that fclef has done any wrong...seems to me Fclef built the guy a bass.... the guy has changed his mind at the last minute on a bass he wanted to change the headstock on...and george (fclef) has kept his money...i could be wrong and would think twice about ordering a bass, but i havent read the latest on it. and its a matter thats not yet sorted on both sides.... -
what jazz bass is Marlowe playing here..i guess its a vintage..how is he getting that low down punch? is it the way the used to wind the pups? its got a warmth to it that so nice...rosewood board? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxvcE-yB6ug
