1.
Something as simple as this has so much more soul and feel.
for sure Wayne. i dig this. i have no more to say.
2.
...from Kamakiriad, possibly the most disappointing album ever to emerge fro the Steely Dan stable
that song was written by Donald, not Steely. hes quite different you know. but seriously that is easily one of his best albums.
3. i may have posted this before. its some of the best soul funk ive heard. there is not alot i can fault. thats not saying much coming from muggins. but imo, its some awsome groove. his voice is just amazing.
4.
This is probably hersey, but they need scratch plates IMO
they do have the classic range Roland. http://www.moon-guitar.co.jp/jb4_cl.html
5. i was referring to others peoples posts to be honest Nige. my point was i dont like the thought of every bassist holding down a root or something so daring as a fifth, or a double stop. blimey lets not even think of modes.
6. i have a problem, im a problem jazz bass player. i driibble like Homer when i see there website. the 35th anniversary jazz basses are lovely. as are the JB5's. the sunburst jj4 is really nice.. the Larry Graham sig is very cool also. you can translate the website if you google Moon Guitars Japan. http://www.moon-guitar.co.jp/jj4.html
7. i dont know much about Warwicks but i played a 5 string streamer a while back, same as a $$ corvette 5 i had for a while. in no way did way did i find them uncomfortable, and im a jazz man
8.
The title of this thread is three words too long... ;-)
but i beg to differ. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHdN_O5k3WM
9. i couldnt bear the thought of bass playing being constricted in any way, like it or not. Music is about evolution. we wouldnt have some of the greats if musicians didnt push a boundary or two.. cant get my head around such old fashion views, that some seem to have
10. i jest of course. i dont like knocking anyones playing, but it gets to a point where its so bad, i just cant keep it in. anyways its was about 25 years ago.. i shouldnt mock but i cant help it. i just hope that knowone in the 80's learned anything from this guy. love the SLAP on the top of his bass. thing is when he breaks his playing, down hes not bad at all.. 11. not sure if this has been posted before, but my sister sent me this. great live sound i think.. Synchronicity 2 which is second is great. always been a favorite song ....................... excuse me ladies and gentlemen, a slight technical hitch. thank god that wasnt my secret Shakin Stevens video.
12. it was Gjones, but hes had 3 necks on that original 72 jazz.. the maple pearl neck being the latest incarnation, he replaced in the 90's with original tuners etc.
13. for a start i love that guys playingm and thankd for posting dude. but there is no pinnacle imo. in music/ bass playing. music is too invinite a subject. its a bit like saying, is that girl/man the most beautiful person ever.. ? there are bassists/musicians you might favour, but the pinnacle of bass playing. impossible. not always of course, but i sometimes find the truely original bassists dont have amazing techiniques. they just use notes very cleverly and are hugely musical. Sharay Reed is one of them imo.
14.
What a load of pretentious sh*t.
thank the bass and musical world, that there isnt too much "pretentious sh*t" ? out there. where would we be.?
15. really cant see the hating hear. musically i dont think anyone was getting in each others way. cant say its my bag or what i would listen to. it certainly didnt hurt my ears. some wonderful playing from Patitucci, as there were others. i think the concept is worse than the actual reality
16. its $8000..!!??....thats over 5 grand.. rediculous. think that Geddy paid $200 back in the day from a pawn shop. Fender really do know how to take this piss
17. Pino without doubt. not just the UK's i would say Pino is one of the best in the world.. Julain Crampton is the bomb. and incredible bass player.
18. yeah that was very cool funk. me likey alotee.
19.
Great version LFDH
excellent.!!
20. yes they should be of equal volume when you set both pickups at full volume.
21. possibly not the best example but this playing is very cool on an unusual track. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIdzGh01QIA
22.
AWB were a fantastic band and up their with the best but the best funk band ever? Better than the JB's, the Meters, Ohio Players, T-Connection, Funkadelic? Really? Let's just say they were great.
i stand by my post. i dont really care for hardcore funk. it lacks harmony. i am and will always be a soul man for that reason., and i can hear that in AWB. dont get me wrong i love Maceo Parker, but some funk is very lacking in aspects that i previously mentioned
23. My wife took out a CD of Nick Kershaw and she played this record. fantastic bass playing. sounds like Mark King to me.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67N6TLG2_L4
24. like Pete said, he plays like a vocalist, i was reading an interview when he said that he gets his influence from vocal and horns, from Anita Baker to John Coltrane to Miles obviously.
25. i think the best thing about them is that they came from a country that wasnt really known for its funk, but it turned out, they were arguably the best funk band ever. the power of the american influence
