Get yourself on to the Ernie Ball forum, post a topic with the serial number and they'll give you an exact date, mind out for Sterling Ball he can be a bit of an arse!
Interesting observation about SB. John Hall can be a bit of smart Alec on the RIC forums, too.
 2.
Yeah those frets do look new. Everything else looks good though. Lovely bass. Not sure why it's desirable because it's unbound... They don't make '65 reissues with bound necks for nowt.
I've got a non--export Jap Jazz that's dot and bound! Don't think Fender USA do them. On an entirely disparate note, I love your avatar, Bigjohn. Seriously cool.
 3.
The Wilkes Bass that started this thread...looks like NT but is actually bolt-on. Anyone played or owned one of these?
Man, I never saw any Wilkes basses that looked like that. looks nice!
 4.
Seriously tempted by Probass jazz bass on the bay.Have read that these are in fact SX items. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
I'd leave that alone, mate. Look at the bridge: it's too far forward. It either won't intonate correctly or the neck, too is shorter. Seen these before.
 5.
That's why I come on here!
+1. Quality!

Might have a pop if it doesn't get too silly.
 7.
yeah I played one a few weeks back - lovely - not sure it's £1900 worth of lovely tho - about £700 there for the logo I think!
Am I missing something here? Anyone got any idea why Fender put out a '70s reissue Jazz and atgged it as a 50th Anniv? This is lost on me.
 8. Got one of them in mind but anyone know the difference between these and the reissues from ten years back? Apart from the colour, that is?

 10.
Also, Derek says the reason he left SM was because he became lazy and was enjoying the high life to much. Enjoying the partying a little to much. He admits its all his own fault. .
He's being truthful but discreet!
 11.
Giblins an excellent bassist but for me the rawness of Forbes made Simple Minds, the bass practically disappeared from their songs after he was booted out by Kerr.
+1 to that.
 12. I found rounds to be too 'clanky' on the fretless ebonol and stuck on an old set of flats I ripped off a bass I'd bought not long before the Squier and, as I guy who hadn't used flats for 30 years, I found I preferred them on this bass.
 13.
I may just do that.. Unfortunately I have no idea where to price it as there seems to be no other examples of this bass kicking around anywhere.
£700-£800 new plus import duty, etc. There was a 2nd hand one up on Ishibahsi a while back for around £500

 15. Did anyone see the Google ad that was at the bottom of this page???:- Ashes One of my mates gets one Lowden acoustic and the Mrs keeps the other along with the 75th Anniv Ric 660. All other guitars/basses to be sold and money goes to my laddie. Simples.
 16.
This is becoming an odd thread. If anyone has any personal issues, please keep it to PM's!! This thread is for selling the OP Olympic white '64 refinish Jazz Eye on the ball guys! Cheers Si
Good point; I'll step out.
 17.
so, did you ever find the rest i paid you for?
Like I said at the time, I only ever found the screws.
 18.
hey stacker you still owe me £60, thats what an original rest cost me where did you buy the Bass from btw?
You wanted more than £60 for me to find that 'rest or a NOS one but that's in the past, now. Yes, the bass came via Gbase from a company called SolidBodyGuitar. AFAICR, the refin was professionally done and although the neck dates '64 and pots '63 it is possibe that this bass would have the '65 onwards logo and that is what was requested from Fender; why would they do otherwise? Beautiful!
 19. More CS pix. '73 to follow. There are no other issues with this bass than the one sposted at the start of this thread. Neck nice and true; tail lift just over 1mm.
 20.
what about this one '64??? ALL ORIGINAL including finish and all sorry for interupting OT
No, don't! Don't see many of these this side of the pond.
 21. Ok, so the Chris Squire is still for sale. To add to that, due to something about to come onto the market, I may like to add feelers for:- Fender Japan non-export 1965 reissue, all black with matching headstcok, mint green plate, dot and bound neck, Hipshot lollipop tuners. Plate, bridge and tuners not original, AFAIK. Rickenbacker 4001 1973, cheq binding, wavy Grovers, toaster front pup, adjustable poles on rear pup, non-full width inlays. I would welcome comments/interest on the above, inc the 4001CS.
 22.
there's a couple of people over @ the Yesfans forum looking for one of these (me NOT included! Well.. er, no - I must resist") I'll post a link for you..
Go on, then. I'd appreciate that. She just sits under the bed; can't risk twatting it so it would be better off in a player's hands. PS: if you have seen these guys, give them this link, please. Might be easier for me if they come here. Cheers.
 23. There's another thing non-orig about that bass and that's the finger rest. How do I know? Cos I used to own it and the 'rest was lost at home at time of sale. I wish I had never sold you that bass.
 24.
That looks like `a Cort, of course'! (That was the spiel in their ads!). These did have the P type p/up in the neck position! PM on its way (giving you some info). Nick
Cort, defo.
