I've had two; still got one on a Jap Jazz, black with brass saddles. It hardens the tone a wee bit and I'd rather have the Wilkie than a Badass x anyday.
Beautiful bass, great price. '73 was obviously a very transitional year - I had a Nov '73 Jetglo with only the wavy Grovers as a last vestige of Rick vintage-ness (and even those had been replaced with little Schallers!) I don't think you were looking for trades last time - still the case?
I really need the readies, Shaggy. Thanx, anyway.

Back again, this fella. It does need to go as I've been really excessive with recent purchases. She's all original bar one pickguard screw. Here's the blurb from the recent auction. £1700 or drop me a PM. Wavy Grover keys Non-full-width inlays Cheq binding Toaster front pup Rear pup has adjustable pole-pieces Original black RIC case Bit of buckle-rash and a few scratches, given its age 4mm tail-lift All original bar one pickguard screw No neck/rod issues whatsoever The backs of the wavy Grovers are secure and not prone to popping off. There is a split from the bottom of the toaster down to the edge of the scratchplate; this is not uncommon on Ricks from that era. Strung with .040-.095 Warwick Reds since I've had her. Instrument dates to May 1973. Comes with original black RIC case. Email me for more pix. BTW, I had a nasty experience with a proper nut-case on this forum a while back which put me off ever coming back here, and the mods know of this. I don't want that to happen again so please, let's be cool, ok? Cheers, Stacker.

Fender Squier Standard Special P-Bass
Stacker replied to Stacker's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I've not seen a walnut one before. That pic looks like a retouched grey one - I nearly bought one awhile back. They're nice, but to make them super nice you'd need to put in some better pups. I think someone else on here says that suffer from neck dive a bit.
Neck dive? I'm not surprised as agathis is a very light wood. -
It is a great Rick - and you are getting a V63 now!!!! Donny, you need help....
You reckon I should keep her, now, Alan? That said, the missus has gone a bit quiet after the recent V63/Jaco Navigator Jazz furore but it would only be a matter of time until she noticed that there had been no visits from couriers or visits to the Post Offce with a large package!! The other two basses haven't sold, either; maybe if they did I might be able to swing keeping the '73 but for now she's still available. Needing help? Yeh, and I know what the cure is: staying away from ebay and Ishsibashi and with that to mind I'm shutting down the ebay account. 12 steps, etc, etc,....
Awesome, beautiful, reminds me of Clarkys bad boy Nash which I was salivating over for a few weeks. But then, Ich bin ein poor-man.
Oh, THAT Nash! Y'know, I played a RW Jazz against the Fender £2.3k custom shop '64 reissue and, pound 4 pound, preferred the Mexi. I had £2k+ at the time but didnt like the CS yet still had the old-skool Mexi predudice. Did u gen not like it? -
That was me Clarky, I felt a bit silly after I'd posted because I'd looked at a 2001 Ric 4003. I thought that this was just an older version. I'm VERY interested in this, just haven't quite got that much money. I will have if someone buys my new fret king.
Do what I did, Tom: raid the savings!! I do need to shift this honey, guys.
Hi there Stacker, I might be interested in your fretless ? . . . I was trying a new one in a guitar shop on Friday . . very nice it was for the money ! Apart from the hardware change, are there any other changes or issues on yours, compared to a new standard one ? And what condition is it in re dings, dents and knocks etc ? Do you still have the original stock hardware that would been originally fitted ?
Pristine, mate; as new. TBH, the orig hardware I got shot of as I wanted it in gold-plate. They keys are exactly the same as you'd find on the bass fresh out of the factory, but in GP. Direct retro-fit and no additional holes. I was, eventually, gonna put in a new harness and a set of DiMarzio Ultra-Jazz pups - which I've fallen in love with after buying Clarky's Nash JAzz - but the bass, along with two others, has to go due to recent raiding of the savings to alleviate GAS!! PS: I see you've got a Power Jazz; don't see many of them around!

They did a beezer of a tiger-striped maple top Telebass back in the '90s. Always liked ESP stuff.
I think this is a strange sort of transitional one - Ibby 4001 copies all had full-size tuners from the earliest ones in about 1971 and the date explains the full width inlays & checked binding. However for the first 4 years or so they had big chrome Gibson Mudbucker style pickups, which were actually single coils in big cases: Around 75/76, the model was updated with more accurate hardware and smaller pearloid inlays, however one or two "transitional" examples turn up with features from both "eras" and I think that's what Stevie's is - I've only ever seen FWIs with mudbuckers before. All Ibby 4001s seem to have checked binding regardless of when they were made, and the very earliest have a very heavy cast tailpiece which can't tail-lift, a bit like the old Rick gap-tooth ones. I'm of the opinion the Ibanez 4001 copy was the first (along with early Greco, which was the same bass with a different badge) which is why it has a lot of early 70s features, and perhaps why the factory used and EB3 type pickup set - it was what they had lying around! Stevie - is there a serial number? It'll be stamped on the back of the head if there is. J.
I had a lovely Fireglo one with the 'Mudbucker'. That pickup was as weak as sin and I eventually put a Bill Lawrence twin rails humbucker in there which just covered the hole left by the mudbucker. I don't recall mine having the cheq binding but all that's lost in the mists of time. I had often wondered about that early pup config and your presumtion that they were leftovers from EB3 copies is entirely plausible!
