1. the 4001 truss rod is an ellipse, a bit like a hairpin. One end of that is threaded and is what the nut locks onto. The slightly shorter other end lies on top and butts up against a small aluminium plate. As the rod is tightened, that top section flexes upwards. If the neck is not moved into position manually and the rods are tightened, this could cause the inlays and indeed the fingerboard to pop. Anyone here old enuff to remember if RIC stated this in their manuals in the '60s/'70s?

Gone.

Surprised this fella is still here! Mind you, it took me over 6 months to shift the T-Bass:

she's still for sale, Luke; interested, since the T-Bass is now gone?
5. I bought a quilted maple/mahogany body offa him at the beginning of the month and it's just disappeared into the ether. Annoying, cos I had a Warmoth custom build neck lined up for that body and that'll now have to change if this one's lost. Looks nice, that one. I'll keep an eye on this thread.
6. Why the non-original bridge, though? Don't get that.
7. Go on, then. I'll take them offa you! Lemme get bcak home tonight and sort it.
8. And don't forget WD Products here in the UK; they've got a fretless ebony in stock just now.
9. Check out Musikraft.com in the 'States, also. They're making me a padouk and ebony fretless job for around £240
10. Well, nobody's biting on my NAsh JB or T-bass so I can't take this off you hands. Grim times.

Thanks, Clarky. Digi-cam gone AWOL, I'm afraid.

Don't really wanna sell her but when I bought Molan's NAsh JB63 as well, I had to top up the savings again. Plus, something else has come on the market.

Bill Nash JB63, medium relic, medium 'C' neck. DiMarzio Ultra Jazz pups, ashtrays and oblong Nash soft case. £1200 but open to serious very near offer. No trades, guys.
14. Thinking of moving at least one of the above. The Nash used to belong to CairoBill/Clarky; the Blade I've had for about 5 years and is in v.good condition. Seeking £1150 for the Nash and £700 for the Blade. Pix to follow over weekend. Also, my Trace Elliot T-bass is still for sale at £500. ANy Qs, fire away.
15.
The advert says it's alder not ash.
It does indeed. I'd reckon it's ash, though. Really. Don't think Fender made the Jazz with alder back then. Doubt it. But if that's what the ad says. But, in any case, see post 36.
16.
Err because I have one!! Sure there are others on the forum who have some too.
Because you have one? Get real!
17.
Settle down, sonny... I'm not going to steal your Smarties. It was just a gentle bit of humour. So... all Ash Jazzes are as 'heavy as F**k'? OK. I'll go with that if it lowers your blood pressure.
There you go again. Where and when did I use the word 'all'? Those two Jazzes I had - plus the Levinson Blade made from the same wood - are the heaviest Jazzes I've had. Perhaps it's all subjective and you all think those from that era are dead light; fine, let's go with that. End of!
18.
They really do vary a lot and i do not agree that you can make assumptions about the weight of this particular bass based on the two mid-70s j basses you have had, just because they are around the same year. Any serious buyer would want to know the weight of this specific bass before entertaining buying it.
If I had two that were heavy, why should I not be allowed to believe that a third from the same era would be around the same weight?? I agree with your second statement.
19.
Fixed it for ya.
Why the f*** are you editing my quotes?? Don't do that, you clown! Furthermore, you have, by your clever little edit, demonstrated your lack of knowledge of variations in wood density. Go and study that subject before you publish any more asinine statements. Nice try, pal!
20.
You seriously think he's being underhand mentioning CBS in the ad? When the bass is clearly in the CBS timeframe? Wow. Where is the weight mentioned? Have I missed something?
The weight wasn't mentioned; I just happen to have had a couple of mid '70s Jazzes pass through my hands. and they were the heaviest Fender Jazzes I'd handled. i see no reason for this one to be different, given that it's ash.
21. That is unreal nick for a '74 - the poly coat looks unfaded and no major dings. Can't have seen a lot of use. And a the last of the 4-bolt neck plates. Even still, heavy as f*** and way overpriced, IMO.
22. I've got the De Armond (fender) one and love it. Moved the strap button to the front of the body and the front of the strap goes around behind the nut. I also put a bracket in right underneath which allows me to stick it in my pocket or belt, like a Chapman stick and allows me to play the bass like an upright!
23.
The guitar pickup actually sounds ok.The nut can be replaced. It intonates too.Im sure that the bridge is a replacement. The bass will never be for sale,(dont ask me why,i dont know) wether it belonged to Saxon or not. I think that the whole concept of it is wrong, but it has a massive array of tones and plays well strung up as a 4,but god knows what it would be like as an 8 with that narrow spacing.
I remember seeing this bass player a band in Edinburgh when I was a teenager who had an old Rick 4001 and he'd put a Strat pup in where the foam mute used to be. He said, as I recall, that it "brought out the highs"! What utter bullshit! I think he just had it in there as a conversation piece!!
24. Those guys will want a whack for that, I'll wager! Anybody called?
25. I've heard that the necks on these fellas are really thick; is this true for this one?
