1. Offiically BOWFF!!
2. Got a set of these for a new fretless Jazz. I'm using DiMarzio UltraJazz and I'm dismayed by the string response, with the D and the E being noticeably quieter than the A and G when playing . The strings feel ok but the E is a dud and has a noticeable wolf tone, something I've not heard on a bass for years. I guess I should have just spent the coin on RS77s but has anyone else tried these Roberts strings?
3. Thanks for that, mate.
4. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1960s-bass-guitar-80s-and-rickenbacker-4001-/270834760120?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3f0f0279b8 This is an odd one. Def not a genuine Rick but possibly a Gherson. Also, looks like the bridge is missing and that whole tailpiece unit is mis-aligned, given how the strings are running on the 'board.
5. I'm sure I recall seeing one somehwere, recently. Any ideas who made it?
6. It's 1982 all over again. Man, I had their 1st album on my Walkman.........
7.
........ (when they manage to evade the Rickenwaffen!).
Excellent term! I must remember that for it's bang on!!
8. Dunno why RIC did that, change the neck shape/headstock of the 4001cs and the v63. There's never been an explanation given, not that I'm aware of.
9. Done and dusted!!
10.
What year is the V63?
2000, slightly chunkier neck and shortened cresting wave.
11. Well, at what I'm flogging it for you could get the re-fin and the re-fret done and still come in on a price on par with a '73. V63 FG maybe coming on, too.
12. Cool as! They all come at once, these fellas.........
13. As usual, stuff pops up on here that you've gotta try and snag so since one of my Nash basses isn't attracting any interest I may have to flog this 4001 and/or maybe my Fireglo V63. This 4001 started life as Jetglo and has been stripped back and given an oil finish, which is kinda neat. The neck has been shaved back a little (think Chris Squire's neck profile) and has a reissue Horseshoe in the rear pup position and the correct toaster in the 1/2 inch position. The original tailpiece had unacceptable tail-lift for me so I sawpped it out for the 7-screw '8os/'90s 4003 model. Wiring harness all original as are the wavy Grovers. There are a few wee issues. The lying Yank dealer who flogged it to me on ebay years ago hid a resin(!!) fill on the rear of the cresting wave! Beyond me why whomever did it just didn't use maple. Also, as often with Ricks of this period, the housing on a couple of the Grovers work loose and would need to be reworked, though they don't bother me as I'm not a gigging bassist. The frets are very low and she could do with a refret. No truss-rod issues and neck is straight though the first inlay is beginning to protrude a little but nowhere near enough to inhibit playing. Hard case supplied, along with spare 4001 truss-rods, though I've never needed them. This bass does need a refret if you're gonna gig it and it needs the Grovers sorted so I've taken that into account withe the price of this fella. I'm looking for £1050, unshipped, which is considerably below the average current price of a '73 4001. Sorry, no trades, unless it's Wes' stacker Jazz or Clarky's '51P.

C'mon, fellas. Need to punt this baby. Serious offers considered and could, maybe, travel to meet, within reasonable distance.
15. Two basses on BC that I want and that '51 is one of them.
16.
Oh but dont imply Rics are uncomfortable on here or you will get toasted
They are, and I've owned several! And they keep fkn around with the shape, which really annoys me (viz: V63/CS/4003) And John Hall and one Paul Wilczinski like to get their knickers knotted from time to time.
17. I'll pass, then. Cheers, anyhooo.
18. Do the do flats on the same deal? Got enough rounds but need 1 set of .040-.100 flats.
19.
'From cheap early instruments to the pick of 60s technology'... this looks like a great read. .
Trust me, it is. I got it in Oz a few years ago, months before it was released here. Think mine is the 1st edition.
20. In Beatles' Gear, by Andy Babiuk, page 226 states that both Lennon and Harrison used the newly-acquired Fender Bass VI to great extent, though unfortunately it does not confirm who played what on that track. It's a very interesting and informative book, not just for Beatles freaks but for gear-heads and as an historical account, too. Link to Amazon here. The infamous Nick Thiel (Ricky guys will know of this fella) also has a book on Beatles' gear though I haven't read it.
Hnnng! Lots of Nash love -- but no cash, love.
Yesh, Grim times. Mate of mine down south is trying to shift his 1960 Gibson ES330. Keeps dropping it and is now down under £3k and still no biters.
