1. Paganini apparently used a two handed tapping technique on the violin.
2. There was a guy who worked for Gretsch called Jimmie Webster that published a book on his tapping technique (he called it his "Touch System) in 1952.
3. I've had a hanger come away from the wall & damage a bass (and the guitar it landed on) due to a problem with the brickwork I was unaware of. I used much longer screws & better plugs than the ones supplied with the hanger too (a Hercules one). I wouldn't use wall hangers again, there's just no way of knowing how securely they are attached to the wall.
4. The sunburst finish would be the deal breaker for me, not the grain of the wood.
5. The best five string I've owned was my Spector Euro 5LX. Worst was a Musicman Stingray 5. Went back to playing four strings as I never felt really comfortable on a five & didn't need the extra low notes for anything I was doing.
6. You're not the drummer from my old band by any chance?
7.
Yes exactly but electronic Really good instrument and lovely sound - I've had some good evenings with this and a bottle of brandy
Hmm, looks interesting. There's a couple on EBay...
8.
It looks like I've finally made a decent post then?
Don't get cocky...
9.
I play an omnichord. They are becoming rare these days
Aren't they a bit like an autoharp?
10.
People get old, people get ill and people die. That's life. Nothing to do with 2016
You're going to look really stupid if nobody dies next year...
11.
I like the previous references to 'a doff of the hat'.
Which is what these type of threads are. You're the only one that's assuming people are "grieving" by posting in these threads.
12.
But let's be honest, that body of work has existed for around 50 years now and it really doesn't matter if Lake or the others are alive or dead.
I'm sure it matters to them, their friends & their families.
13. Are you sure it needs a full refret & not just a dressing?
14.
But what about all those people we don't know who have also died? Possibly in terrible circumstances yet are utterly unknown outside a handful of friends and families (and sometimes not even that) and will leave no significant lasting legacy of their brief lives?
f*** 'em.
15. The Ernie Ball ones are the same as the Dunlop ones aren't they? Used them for a while as they came as standard on USA Hamer guitars but I found them too awkward & bulky so changed to Schallers & had no problems with them. Tighten the nut up with a spanner or even a pair of pliers & Schallers stay on forever.
16. Sweet! I used to have a fretless Zon Legacy, it was a superb instrument.
17. Chorus is to be avoided at all costs unless you want everything you do to sound like the theme music from Bergerac. Colin Edwin from Porcupine Tree used to use a phaser on his Wal fretless but it sounded sh*t.
18. Laney stuff has always been good, reliable, no nonsense gear.
19. I've only ever spoken to one Basschat member at a gig & that was only because I knew other people in the band he was playing with.
