The Darkglass pedals do what they do extremely well but, like any pedal, they're only good if they make the sound you want. The B3K always sounds like a pedal to me. I love the Vintage as it sounds far more like a raging tube amp as opposed to an added-on distortion. However it's extremely expensive. If you have experience of the MXR and like it I say go for it! I haven't played one but the Juan Alderete demo on Youtube makes it sound fairly excellent!
Don't worry, the bubble is still very much inflated. She may not have played on the track it but she owns that sh!t, if you'll forgive the colloquialism.
Forgiven and wholeheartedly agreed with! -
Paz Lenchantin. When I saw her in the video for A Perfect Circle's début single (Judith), I thought she was one of the effortlessly cool people I'd ever seen. That bit where during the song's breakdown she quickly ties her hair up on her head. Just.... wow. Edit: Here she is in full glory http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTgKRCXybSM
I hate to burst the bubble but she didn't play a note of bass on that album. Only strings. But in that video, man... -

Julie Slick's pretty awesome, a proper rock bassist from the Squire/Wetton school of tone! I do have a soft spot for the divine Ms Auf Der Maur as well. -

http://www.bachmusik.com/en/ Pretty good by all accounts, usual cheap pots/wiring but easily upgradeable and structurally sound. They seem to have drastically cut down on their Thunderbird-inspired basses, they used to do loads of non-reverse models. Wish I'd jumped on one when I had the chance now! -
I haven't tried them but I would imagine the neck dive would still be extreme.

I never found a use for it. Mind you, when I first got the amp I did several gigs with it on thanks to that daft back to front button...
-
I've owned both. The Euro was heavier but more comfortable - my Rebop suffered with the old neck dive a bit as the body is very light and a bit smaller than the Euro body. I never owned them at the same time so never got to make a proper comparison but I remember them being very similar tonally, but then again, I dirty up my tone quite a bit and the results were similar, both can be brutally aggressive beasties. Clean actives are not the way for me.

and todays quiz is.........advice needed on amps
Cosmo Valdemar replied to donslow's topic in Amps and Cabs
I can't imagine your current setup would be lacking in volume or power. Have you considered something like a Tech 21 preamp pedals? Loads on here swear by the VT Bass pedal but I love the Leeds, You can use them either as a standard pedal or run it into the effects return of your amp, effectively bypassing the preamp and just using the power stage. That way all your tone is coming from the pedal. Lovely vintage happiness all day long. And considerably cheaper than buying a while new rig! -
Bloody horns making strange noises
Cosmo Valdemar replied to Cosmo Valdemar's topic in Amps and Cabs
Loose screw somewhere or maybe a wire inside that's rattling against the horn (you mean tweeter don't you)?
That little thing in the top corner of the cab that makes hissing sounds -
I've always been very much a disbeliever in horns on bass cabs, and usually have them completely off, but just for a laugh I decided to turn it up on my Gallien Krueger NEO112. Lo and behold it really brought an extra bit of life to my tone, and not at all hissy and raspy as I imagined! So that was nice. But there was a considerable downside - whenever I played a note, the horn responded with a loud rattly/shaky sound I can only compare to a maraca or something similar. This happened the instant I played a note but was only there for a second - the rest of the note rang out fine. Of course this was still unacceptable as the unwanted noise seemed to be as loud as the note. Being clever, I remembered I had two of these cabs so grabbed the other one to test and all was well. As I mentioned before I have never used the horns before. I have owned the cabs from new and have only gigged them once. They sometimes get played for an hour here and there at home but most of the time they sit idle sadly. Any ideas of what the problem might be? Bloody horns!
Rolling back the volume also changes the loading on the pickups and reduces the treble a bit. So if your liking your top end a lot a pedal might work better.
This. Anyway as luck would have it I stumbled upon a used lpb1 (cheers Dude!) So I'll let you know how I get on. Cheers for all the suggestions.
+1 for this. Standard practice, I'd have thought; a no-brainer.
Won't be very accurate live though and will probably end up in much twisting of knobs to get back to where I was before. Faffing about is the technical term I think.
