1. Those headstocks are growing on me.
2. BC Rich Ironbird bass from the Plumstead branch. Advertised at £99 but there was a worrying bow in the neck - when I questioned the returns policy the chap leaned over and offered it to me for £40! Turns out it had just been tuned comically high, once re-tuned the neck settled nicely. Sadly my local branch in Dartford always seems to sell their instruments for reasonable prices, which is really no fun at all.
3. As far as I can tell, the ultimate in bass distortion. I wish I had the scratch.
4. I've smelled it, and heard it, and what a miniature marvel it is! The EHX Glove that is. I'm not great at describing tones, particularly when it comes to overdrives/distortions, but this one I really like! Very natural sounding and no loss of low end that I noticed... Just thick, thick overdrive. It doesn't mask the sound of the bass either. Excellent for those John Wetton / King Crimson moments. Before purchase I had the chance to A/B this pedal against several others and it's actualy very close in tone to the Darkglass Vintage Microtubes. The Darkglass is far more tweakable but is about 4 times the price. I spent most of rehearsal the other night with a big daft grin on my face, and even our guitarist gave it the thumbs up! Highly recommended - and thanks to dudewheresmybass for the heads up!
5. It looks a lot bigger that the other amps you were considering.
6. Looks like fun!
7. Excellent basses, very underrated. And what a price!
8.
The only no-no with my gear is putting drinks on it. I`ve walked on stage whilst the bands are playing who`ve done this to their amazement, moved the drink, then walked off. No need to get snotty with them, point made, none have done it again. These have also usually been most apologetic afterwards, not cos I`m big or hard or anything, just remembering their manners and that I`d helped them out/not got snotty or angry at the mistake.
I've had to do this many times in the past. I'm a gentle guy but you'll know Lozz, from my appearance I can appear quite the opposite!
9.
... and I'm in Dartford tomorrow morning too!! This is dangerous!! LOL
If I was in Dartford tomorrow then I would be in real trouble!
10. I know nothing about the bass but I like the headstock.
11. I like that far more than I should.
12. I LOVE these! As soon as I saw it I thought 'SYL'. Wish I had £800 :-( GLWTS!
13. Bump for a superb bass! I used to own it's 4 string brother. Classic Spector tone by the gobful.
14. How are you getting on with the bass? Any soundclips?
15.
See, to me that's "clank"!...
Clank and Growl make easy bedfellows!
16. Growl is such a loose term as it means so many different things to different people - to me, growl is a Precision or Rick being driven hard (think Live at Leeds or early Rush), whereas to some people growl is the back pickup of a Jazz bass. To me that's burp.
17. I'm going to send him a message to see if I can pay by Paypal. Under the rues of Ebay he has to accept.
18. The Darkglass pedals do what they do extremely well but, like any pedal, they're only good if they make the sound you want. The B3K always sounds like a pedal to me. I love the Vintage as it sounds far more like a raging tube amp as opposed to an added-on distortion. However it's extremely expensive. If you have experience of the MXR and like it I say go for it! I haven't played one but the Juan Alderete demo on Youtube makes it sound fairly excellent!
19. My first biggish amp! I wish you were closer, I'd have it for the nostalgia! GLWTS
20.
Don't worry, the bubble is still very much inflated. She may not have played on the track it but she owns that sh!t, if you'll forgive the colloquialism.
Forgiven and wholeheartedly agreed with!
