1.
As the Stingray did not come out until 1976 anything pre 1976 is Fender, from the 1976 album 'Day at the Races' onwards there is Ray usage scattered here and there between P basses fretted and fretless if you listen/watch. 1976 'Day At The Races Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy and Tie Your Mother Down, 1977 'News of the world' We Are The Champions, 1978 'Jazz' Fat Bottomed Girls, 1980's 'The Game' Another Bites the Dust,
I'd be surprised if that's the Stingray on Lover Boy and Tie Your Mother Down. Sounds a lot more like the P to me. I think Deacy's defining Stingray moment is Mustapha. Aleikum Salaam! http://youtu.be/Oq6OoPB5FIM I'm afraid I've only ever really enjoyed the 'ray sound when played with a pick and preferably drop-tuned - it's always sounded a bit too spanky for me when played fingerstyle (I can't stand that RATM tone). I like these: http://youtu.be/dl60yuTJXZg http://youtu.be/zf_oLG-GnpU
2.
10 years here too. If you want help, "The easy way to quit smoking" by Allen Carr is what helped me.
I found that book so persuasive I considered taking up smoking purely so I could give up.
3.
Please don't make me go to Ebay! Offers considered, cash or trade!
4.
Sadly not, but that was an ultra cool answer. I did think of Yes's "Into the Lens" myself, where they sing "I am a camera", if memory serves, but had no idea there was this Buggles link to it, or I would've used the same song list but with better reasons!
I was of course referring to 'Into The Lens". ;-)
5.
OK then: 1. Convenience 2. All Through the Night 3. Shadows on the Street 4. Number One 5. Underground 6. I Am a Camera 7. Inside Out 8. It's Not Imagination
Buggles- Adventures in Modern Recording? A guess based purely on the knowledge that they re-recorded Yes' "I Am A Camera". I'll be surprised if I'm right!
6. That's the best use of a mirror scratchplate I've ever seen. I used to lust after these basses when I was at school, thanks to Geezer Butler! GLWTS
7. I think it's an Energy bolt on but not 100%, and I'm no Status expert! Just thinking back to old ads in Bassist magazine!
8.
I reckon you'd find more than a few mate. I LOVE the sound of the P bass. It's just got that sound that you hear on so many tracks that makes my boat get floated!
I know, I was only half joking. It seemed that general concensus was edging toward the whole 'great in a mix, boring on it's own' thing. I won't stand for it!
9. Please on't make me go to Ebay! Offers considered, cash or trade!
10. I'm using two Gallien Krueger Neo 112 cabs. They are very squat and wide but when stacked vertically they make for a pretty tall rig! I've never had a volume issue with them and I've played some pretty large and cavernous halls and have John Bonham next to me on the drums.
11. Love that colour. Jet Harris played one just like it in The Young Ones, an image that may well have kicked off my P bass obsession... When I am next on the lookout for a Precision, I am pretty much convinced that Limelight is the way to go.
12. It seems I'm one of the few people on here who thinks the sound of a P bass on it's own is a thing of beauty...
13. Beautiful!
14. That is incredible! I didn't think any had made it over here!
15. I've played a Matt Freeman sig and it felt wonderful. Sounded good too but it was at shop volumes and to be honest I was more taken with the Fender Bassman valve monster I was playing it through! I've never owned a basswood P bass so can't comment on any tonal shortcomings but I've never noticed anything onthe ones I have tried. Not questioning your expertise of course, Lozz! However it's all academic as I think block inlays on a P neck look horrible.
16.
but the 10000 bass that he plays for a solo! shut up! thats not on unless that money goes to charity!
Gene can do whatever he wants with his money. However Kiss (or at least Gene and Paul) do undertake a hell of a lot of charity work.
17.
I've missed that, but it doesn't surprise me at all. If you ever saw the reality programme - his office is a desk I n the middle of a vast space full of Kiss memorabilia and he clearly couldn't give a toss about the music - it's all about the money.
Although Gene's love of the almighty dollar is well known, to suggest he is anything but passionate about his music is unfair.
18. I think a bit of flop and rattle would be beneficial for that song... I reckon a 110 would do the job.
19. I would have been shocked had she been content to just play the hit singles...

21. B U M P I'm in a metal mood so will consider trades for pointy guitars as well.
22. I have one of these and it's wonderful. GLWTS!
