1.
i just want a furry caterpillar now!!
Very rare these days, PM me and we'll thrash out a deal.
2.
That's a really nice-looking LX - the finish looks like one big piece of vintage tort. How are you with the bridge? When I found there were no intonation screws I thought it a bit weird, but it's actually really easy to move the saddles by hand. I like the way the bridge is lockable, too - when everything's set you your liking you can lock it up tight and effectively it becomes a solid chunk of metal, only with your preferred action, spacing and intonation. Really good bit of design, ihmo. By popular demand Spector now make a bridge with intonation screws, but I prefer it without. When the bridge is locked you get no rattling or weird noises like you can with... 'other' bridges. Fantastic acquisition, and a cautionary tale, too - obviously if you sell your Spector, sooner or later you have to replace it!
I'm ashamed to admit I avoid fiddling with bridges and necks. Pathetic I know. But my guitarist is a professional guitar tech so it seems daft not to let him do the magic, and all at mate's rates. It's such a stunning piece of design though, that bridge. The newer ones just don't look right.
I'd quite like the MM4 with the matte blue finish, maple neck and black crown inlays...
I love the Rebops, but the ergonomincs annoy me sadly they have a tiny (narrower than the Euro) body and a thick heavy neck. Resulting in neck dive and an odd weight distribution. That said, they sound immense, and I would love to own another one day! Despite the stunning looks, I didn't get on with the MM I tried. That pickup placement just doesn't do it for me, it's too close to the bridge. Perfect for the funkier stuff I'm sure but far too tight and snappy for me, I like a looser growl.
3. Veeeeery nice! That Gene Simmons tone at the beginning is spot on.
4. Looks great. I loved the feel of the Dingwall I tried at the bass show a couple of years ago (and had a good old chat with the affable Mr D himself) but the basic tone of the bass did nothing for me sadly.
5. Manufactured from lead?
6. I've actually had this beauty since just before Xmas, an wasn't going to do a NBD thread but was politely bamboozled into it by one of our more esteemed members. So Discreet, this is for you! It's used but in near perfect condition. I've ordered a replacement TonePump as it's currently wearing the non-adjustable version which is far too hot for me. I won't go into too much detail about the Euro itself as Discreet's recent thread on the same subject was comprehensive. Needless to say, this is my tenth (!) Spector, sadly I don't own them all anymore but it does show how much of an addiction these basses can be! They really are colossally good. A couple of quick phone pics (the best I can manage). In 'real life' it's a deeper red and the quilt is more pronounced. 7. The evil of temptation!
8. The Cowboys from Hell bass! Awesome
9.
Yamaha BB424/1024/2024! They have the old skool passive thing going on in spades. They look great, medium profile necks (somewhere between Jazz and Precision feel), terrific Yamaha construction and generally ideal for all situations. The 2000 series BB's are really quite special instruments. There's a couple 1024's on sale here at the moment I think? Truckstop
This. I use two 424s and I cannot fault them. In fact I prefer them over their more expensive brothers as they nail the Precision sound - the 1024 has a slightly different P pickup. I use the P pickup alone most of the time, but it's nice to mix the J in sometimes for a slightly tighter sound. They pop up on here from time to time for around £200 - no brainer.
10.
Well this is a supposed reissue of the wah he used, and the original pedal came with a built in fuzz circuit. I don't think Morley are trying to claim it was his main fuzz pedal.
Fair enough.
11. I had no idea this book existed! One for the Amazon vouchers I think! I love Type O Negative. Bloody love them. October Rust was one of the first 'modern' heavy albums I got into ( I was a bit of a Sabbath obsessive at the time - still am). A genuinely beautiful album. He's a very underrated bass player as well. Died on my birthday, would you believe.
12.
I'm on my own with Paloma vs Joss then! I hear Joss as a great singer singing in her natural voice. Paloma to me always sounds like she's putting on an impression of a soul singer!
Ms Faith always sounds like she's got some cake in her mouth when she sings. And that she's sitting in a broken tumble dryer. I do have a bit of a soft spot for Ms Stone though.
13. A bit of confusion though - didn't Cliff use the Big Muff for fuzz?
14.
Has everyone seen this? I would imagine it will be released at namm. Any thoughts? http://www.thomann.de/gb/morley_m2_cliff_burton_fuzz_wah.htm?sid=937725fe8e8ff2c2ecdff1d61a191f24
Thoughts: I want one.
15. Looks like the one Billy Gould used to play in Faith No More - if so, great bass!
16.
Obviously you're not finding it totally exhilarating... it is too controversial for you..? How much d'you want for it? Has it got the output trim pot? I know Damonjames was looking for one.
I adore the exhilaration, and the controversy bothers me not! It's just too hot so I've replaced it with a new trim pot one. The sound it makes, I cannot fault.
17. I happen to have a thunderous, brash, epic, controversial and totally exhilarating Tone Pump for sale as we speak...
18. I've never seen a CV Precision with block inlays before. Bravo!
19. I know looks aren't everything, but... But a Molan has said, the demand is clearly there.
20. Cor, lumme!
21.
Budgie - In the grip of the Tyrefitters hands
Yes, yes, yes! Far from their best song but I've always fancied opening a set with Forearm Smash.
22. Good lord!
23. That's a Zephyr isn't it? Luvverly bass.
24.
Not much in comparison to his Precisions is, I think, what is meant and is probably perfectly correct.
This.
