Couple of days- certainly. But not less than a day.
This. At least send the chap another message saying you'll need a response by whenever, or you can only keep it on hold for so long, something like that.
 2.
I have exactly the same instrument and I just don't feel the need to look at anything else. Sounds great, looks great, feels great!
There speaks a man truly contented. I still feel my eye wandering but when I'm playing it I can't stop grinning.
 3.
Eh? You're not allowed to say 'Sw***ier'?? Iceholes! What the farking feck is that corksucking shyte all about??
Hilary Sw***.
 4.
Well, I bought a BB414 (from MoJo) a little while ago and used it for the first time at rehearsal last night. To say I was surprised would be an understatement - I was very impressed indeed. It is actually a touch heavier than I would usually like but hangs so well when wearing it that it doesn't notice. I may change the tuners for lightweight ones if it becomes a problem. The neck is very nice, a bit thicker in the hand than most Jazz basses but not a plank, either. In fact the general build quality is better than I expected. Tone-wise is where it impressed me most - woody with a character way beyond its price point. Playing around the 7th/8th fret really brought that out - a lovely sound indeed. It sat in the mix like a Precision - tone up at half was very aggressive but rolled off completely gave a nice 'old school thump'. Dial in just a touch more treble and I found my sweet spot. Hard to believe I could get such a playable bass with such a great tone for such a small amount of money. What, if anything, does a 424 (and beyond) bring to the party that the 414 lacks?
You got one! Well done.
 5.
I struggle to understand quite how Yamaha manage to make these for the money, the fit and finish is excellent, there are no sharp edges or fret ends, the pots and tuners have a lovely solid feel to them and the whole thing feels...finished if you know what I mean.
Ain't that the truth! Up to recently I owned two of these fine beasts, both the same as yours. I've just traded one for the five string version, so far so good! I actually prefer these to the swisher 1024 version as these nail the P bass sound whereas the posher ones sound a bit different. Sw***ier pickups no doubt. I've never had the pleasure of a 2024 though...
 6.
It won't be easy as I would think your to young to get what The Beatles were about.
Seriously?!
 7.
Hmmmm, still not convinced it's a Gibson.
That's a different guitar. There is a close-up shot of PT with the guitar that clearly shows it to be a Gibson, complete with truss rod cover. Can't find it though!
 8.
Yeah, I agree. I wonder what exactly has made the difference...? Hard to say, I suspect.
It's worth remembering that what we consider to be classic bass tones were often achieved either through accident or circumstance. Roger Glover has often said he was never happy with his Rickenbacker sound, only playing them as it cut through Lord and Blackmore better than his Precision. Yet many of us think of this as a landmark in rock bass tone. Glover now plays with a very clean, warm active tone and says it's what he's been after for years but technology never allowed it. Similarly, Geezer Butler's sound on the early Sabbath albums - P bass through a 50w Laney guitar head and a half empty cab. Sounds amazing. Geezer was ashamed of it for years.
 9. Now that is a sexual bass right there.
 10. Magnificent basses.GLWTS
 11.
So if you picked up Chris Squire's bass at one of his gigs, and played one of his bass lines, would you sound like him ?
Within reason. If I started playing Yes songs with a pick I would be surprised if the overall noise was particularly different. If I started slapping (which I would never be able to do) then no. If I played 'as myself' it would sound like me but with Chris Squire's tone.
 12.
Yeah, but I think individual players have a 'tone' of their own too. For instance, I'm very skinny, and have skinny fingers, I play only finger style, and have a light touch. My inherent 'tone' won't be the same as someone who weighs 16 stone, and has sausages for fingers . I mean think of the number of guys who play, or the number of guys over the last 50 years, who have played a Fender Precision bass through an Ampeg rig. Do they all sound the same ? No, they don't because part of their sound is them. You can hear that it's a P bass, and you can maybe hear that it's played through an Ampeg, but then there's something else that's particular to them. That's their 'tone', and that's something that you need to study if you want to emulate their sound. It comes from where about on the instrument they play, how they play, all of the nuances and articulation in their playing.
I havd to say, I think the whole 'tone is in the fingers' argument is for thd most part utter bollocks. The playing style is, but the tone itself? For example - give Chris Squire a Hofner violin bass with flatwounds through a vox amp. Would it sound like him? Not a jot. The reason being his preferred basses and complex amp system are what gets his sound. Not his fingers. With regard to the Ampeg example above, of course all those players sound different. Countless variables in action. However if they all used the same amp setting and were recorded in the same studio with the same producer etc...
 13.
BARGAIN alert!! If I didn't already have an identical one (in colour and model) I'd be biting your hand off.....
Bite, Bite! 😁
 14. Excellent! I look forward to seeing this.
 15.
Also: Rickenbackers have no low end. Ashdowns are ill-defined and muddy. Gibson have never made a decent bass.
Before anything turns violent, I should like to point out that I made this previous comment in jest and that I happily played Precision basses through an Ashdown rig for nigh on a decade
 16.
Exactly, want more exhibitors there next year? Come along and support the show this year and perhaps the numbers will persuade the exhibitors to turn up next year? If you're not fussed about supporting the show, why should an exhibitor turn up for you not to be there?
I don't think this is very fair, putting the blame for a lacklustre show on those of us that haven't bought tickets. Surely it's the organisers' responsibilty to make an event appealing enough to attract the punters? I'm certainly not in a position to spend money on a ticket for what's looking to be a bit of a half-arsed event (at least in comparison to previous years) in the vague hope that the next one might be better. It's a clear correlation to me - previous bass shows with loads of star turns and exhibitors have sold well, this year hasn't on either front.
 17.
Bloody hell Ben, I thought this was a keeper!! Tempted to pull the trigger on this one myself!!
Tell me about it mate...
 18. Recently purchased, but regretfully getting the push to raise funds for more pressing, non-musical ventures... This Spector is in as-new condition, not a mark I can see on it. It has the adjustable TonePump preamp so it can be adjusted to a sensible output level. Recently had a full set up inc. fret polish and is wearing new Ernie Ball Slinkys. I'll throw in a Roadrunner hard case too. £750 firm for a quick sale. Collection preferred, can meet/deliver around the M25 area. Delivery at buyer's expense. No trade offers, thank you. NOW SOLD.
 19.
Hey thanks Cosmo, its looking for a(nother) deeply handsome owner too ....... think you have my old Yammy 424x BTW :-)
I do! And a bloody marvel it is too!
 20. Gah, just seen this! And I'm only up the road!
 21.
Precisions don't sound good soloed, the magic is in the mix
Also: Rickenbackers have no low end. Ashdowns are ill-defined and muddy. Gibson have never made a decent bass.
 22.
The control cover plate is stainless steel infused polycarbonate, for electrostatic discharge protection.
I had a feeling it would be! Nice bass.
