1.
I played three different levels of t bird the other day at Andertons. The entry level bolt on neck sounded terrible, but played ok, whereas the classic (?) set neck epiphone kicked even the USA version to the curb. The epiphone had a clarity and bite that the USA didn't. The USA sounded weak and lifeless to both myself and the guitarists I took with me. The USA left me cold, and wondering why it cost over a thousand pounds more than the epiphone model
Even in the video the Epiphone Classic Pro sounds livelier than the contemporary US model. I'm really not a fan of the current pickups though, all the treble and growl seems to have been lost. I reckon the Classic Pro would be great with a pair of Thunderbuckers installed.
 2.
This may be a stupid question but bear in mind I know nothing at all about Thunderbird basses. Do they naturally sound very muddy and fuzz effected or is that a sound coming from the amp?
The guy's playing through a mic'd up SVT rig so there is a little bit of drive coming from there. I would much rather here a demo presented in this way as opposed to the usual clicky DI nightmares.
 3. I've just stumbled upon these videos that might prove intriguing. I've no idea what the chap is on about but you get a good idea of the tonal differences between various Thunderbirds - some Gibson, some not. I'm a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to Thunderbirds and it's interesting to hear how different the modern version is to the 'classic'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVPxnecYtMM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aDiy8nbYVA
 4.
Sorry, I meant after a certain period. Come to think of it it was around 90125 that they started to regress!
'Progressive' was never anything more than a label anyway.
 5.
The trouble with Yes is they're a 'progressive' band who didn't progress. Mind they've had some fun along the way - The Buggles!
Yeah, 90125 sounds exactly like Time and A Word to me...
 6.
That's very contradictory! Stringing through the body dramatically increases the break angle. This in some cases can make the string feel tighter and improve tuning stability.
It's still the break angle that causes the difference, not the fact that the strings are going through the body.
 7.
Undue snark IMO, everybody in the band starts the gig slightly reserved and nervous, then a few songs in it's starting to flow, everyone gets into it and starts digging in and/or turning up to keep up with the increasingly excitable and invariably gurning drummer. Happened in every band I've ever been in to varying degrees, been regularly gigging for over 20 years.
+1. Sound check always has a sensible head on. It's natural to dig in a generally play much faster once the adrenaline kicks in. And of course, once the room is full of people your finely-honed stage sound is likely to need rethinking anyway.
 8. Quick sale wanted, offers welcome!
 9.
Cracking little amps, these. Mine has been used constantly for the past 5 years without complaint. Surprisingly loud too, ive used it for small intimate sessions. And Ben is a jolly good chap too! Ah.... Tunbridge Wells railway station . Type bump
It's getting like Brief Encounter!
 10.
Never! Let your freak flag fly as long as you can. Look at Gandalf!
I've had long hair since I was 15. Every year I want to chop off the lot, particularly when the hot weather arrives, but I do feel like I owe it to someone. Powerful song, that. That Yes clip was horrible though. Veering close to parody. They should beg Jon Anderson to come back.
 11. You lucky, lucky b'stard!
 12. My next item(s) up for sale in my big gear shake up - the bottom part of my current rig. Each cab runs at 8 ohm so when used together make quite a formidable stack. I have gigged these regularly with no PA support and never had any power / volume issues. Can be stacked vertically or horizontally, very lightweight and easy to transport. Superb condition, just some very, very light scuffs to the interlocking feet. These cabs have the option of being run full range or, if you have a corresponding GK had, you can use the bi-amp function. PLEASE NOTE: One of the cabs has a crackly sounding horn. I'm not sure if this is the horn itself or a wiring issue. This never bothered me as I always leave the horns turned right down, but I have heard these speakers used by a friend who used the top horn only and it was more than sufficient. This issue was present from purchase. Due to this I'm selling for the low price of £420 the pair (they are around £350 each new and usually on back order). I would prefer not to split the two cabs and am not looking for trades at the moment. Collection preferred from Dartford. Trials welcome. Also willing to meet/deliver if not too far. 13. Great little bass combo amp, very well built and rugged. Ideal for home practice, but is now surplus to my requirements. 3band EQ, In very good condition (some scratches to the back plate caused in transit) and in full working order. 5 classic amp models and various digital effects (flange, chorus, auto-wah, reverb, delay). No trade offers thanks. Collection from Dartford preferred, or could possibly meet/deliver. 14. I've decided to sell my Sub-Lime bass fuzz. It's a glorious pedal and makes a truly wonderful noise but it's not seeing any action at the moment. These are long-discontinued and not too easy to get hold of. Pedal is in full working order, but does have a couple of minor wear marks to the casing, and has Velcro applied to the bottom. The pedal comes in the original box and snazzy faux-velvet drawstring bag. Collection/trials welcome, or could deliver/meet around M25. Postage at buyer's cost. No trades thank you. 15. Paul is now the (hopefully) proud owner of my elusive Palmer Ubertreiber overdrive. Great comms from the off, one of the swiftest and easiest deals I've ever done on here. Top marks!
 16. I follow this lot on fb. It looks obscenely good, congrats! Are these the ones the guy from Torche plays?
 17.
Just another reason to stick to the superior (to me) original version
Believe me, I wanted to! Got outvoted on that one.
 18.
The Amy Winehouse version of Valerie has the simplest of basslines, but getting the rhythm right (and constant) becomes almost impossible if the drummer doesn’t nail it too.
First thing I thought of! Sounds dead easy but is actually fiendishly tricky to get right. And if it's not bang on, you won't get away with it.
 19.
Hate Marmite, love this bass
Ditto! Another entry in the 'why did I sell mine?!' pile...
 20. I wouldn't worry about the maple fingerboard. It won't make much difference to the sound of the bass, and RW used rosewood board Precisions too. As for the pickup issue with the RW sig, it's easily changed if the rest of the bass fits.
 21. A very timely review! I'm thinking of getting one of it's more powerful brothers. All the boxes are being ticked so far!
 22. This pedal isn't very well known but I think it should be. Dedicated bass overdrive with great low end and clean blend. I find overdrives very difficult to explain so see the little demo vid below for an idea. As-new condition, only played a few times at home. Comes with original box and paraphernalia. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXJfNafgjG8
