1. Oh, also measuring each coil with a multimeter could reveal if one is off and some of the coil is shorted.
 2. Hi Dad, from the last thread it seems to be working for most people, I was wondering if I was the last one If I am I can start working on the conspiracy theory needed to explain it.
 3. Fortunately a 4 string P allows a good deal of individual string adjustment. But if that doesn't compensate for a particular playing style there could actually be a problem with one of the coils of the pickup. If the OP doesn't find this problem on other P Basses a swap of any other pickup to his bass might find the problem. If he could take his bass to a store or friend with another P and see if it's just the one bass that may pinpoint the issue.
 4.
Vibrating G string, you sure are an interesting guy. My first impression, that you were a disturbed , ill mannered youth, has now been tempered by your revelation that you are entering your declining years. Your internet style is kinda reminiscent of a bag-lady standing in the middle of the road shouting at the traffic, but hey, we we are all individuals, so you are forgiven ...
Wow, thanks for the absolution! And also for proving that you're not worth discussing things with as your favored response is name calling. Good luck selling your stick, I'm sure you'll find plenty of people who like the story and will be impressed with it. As a long time NAMM member I can tell you the music industry is fertile ground for snake oil salesman and you should do well.
 5. Anyone else still not getting any emails since the redesign? I've tried changing many things in my settings but still can't get emails like I used to. I've got all the stuff set to send emails for replies but they just don't come.
 6.
Wait for or go to another post by the same person and 'Like' it. This will cancel out your Neg. .
But the originally neged post will show a neg and people will see that and it will influence their opinion of the post. Of course most people won't admit that it will but it does. I tried to like all the posts in this thread I agree with but the software won't let me. It puts a limit on the love you can give. But I still have negs left
 7.
although I reckon it should stay out of OT and keep it to valid information in the on topic parts of the site. So if someone constantly gives out wrong info you know not to listen to them because of the negs but the one with loads of likes.
This is the flaw with democracy, the most stupid and arrogant have the exact same value as the most reasoned and intelligent. When someone posts bad information it should be countered with a response that contains a conclusion and the thoughts to get to that conclusion. Simple click buttons are for fanbois who can't manage that kind of thought. We could label them the cognitive dissonance eraser buttons.
 8. Mixing most any passive pickups is easy. There may be balance issues if one is hotter than the other but that's usually easy to tame by adjusting pickup heights. The standard EMG is an active pickup and that would require a preamp with two input buffers that would handle either pickup. The old Bartolini TBIBT might be an option for this but I'm not absolutely sure. It has been done but it might be a headache. You can't simply mix active and passive in a standard Fender style wiring.
 9.
It wasn't me (said in best Shaggy voice). Have one back.
I didn't mean to accuse you. You let me know publicly when we disagree As I think it should be.
 10.
I suppose it depends on how it gets used. I wouldn't use it just because I didn't fully agree with something (infact, I probably wouldn't use it at all), but i can see it being used for "nonsense" posts (if you know what I mean). Such as bad advice.
I think reasonable people use it for reasonable purposes and non reasonable people for their own reasons. IME it's a tool for the polar extremes at the expense of the others. By the way I had a very high like ratio but that has plummeted since the dislike button. Some will see that as a good thing but I expect most of those would not be able to argue that point eloquently.
 11.
Hmmm... I can see it being used as a coward's way of disagreeing with someone without justifying it.
I think these neg things are favorites of cowards. They do appeal to one type of personality more than others.
 12. Cool, a hate button to go next to the like button Both should help build the cliques that will help this site become more like TB. I mean, why shouldn't those who whine the loudest have the most say? It works for the Tea Party over here. (yes, that is sarcasm)
 13.
Olp 5's are even tighter too.
True, though the neck on my OLP is slightly wider at the fat end than my MM (about 30 thousandths of an inch) so I swapped bridges to get the spacing to 17.5
 14.
A Pedulla Buzz would be worth tracking down and adding to the list.
Great basses, I've always attributed much of their tone to the polyester fingerboard coating.
 15.
What, no Fender Jazz?
A classic choice but one that's been done to death IMO and it invites the inevitable Jaco comparisons. The Wal has many killer tones but you really need to figure out the EQ as it can be a bit tricky. A Ken Smith makes a wonderful fretless if you like a very upfront sound.
 16.
http://www.fretlord.com/fretoptix.htm
Useless crap IMO, fretFX are however very nice.
 17.
She don't look half bad these days - And she's playing a Status...
18.
Do you know if that is wear or just the wood colour?
It's the sapwood which is lighter than the heartwood. That board is coated and not worn at all.
 19.
Thats far too much general knowledge you have - It's amazing what you can fit in a G String
Talk about being proud
 20.
So that's a new thread: How do you sack a band member quietly?
21.
The funny thing about Mr. Competitive is that, although he's a mate, he'd say exactly the same thing about you if you were playing for a band other than 'his'
That's true, like sport fan who hates a player until they get transferred to their team. It's more about tribalism than anything musical. I think it's pretty near impossible to be in a band without a few issues. My current drummer works for Microsoft and I'm an Apple fanboy, it will come to blows one day
 22. I always find his playing technically impressive.
 23. I'm currently at 11, 2 go to every gig and the rest are toys that I have fun with. I don't feel the need to rationalize it as tone or anything as I can do any gig with any of them, I just like them.
