1.
The position of the pups has a big impact.
This - they vary quite a lot on PJs.
 2. Oh, and top loading only if you go down this route.
 3. Order a set of GHS flats direct from Lakland. As nice as the La Bellas, and significantly cheaper. And less choice to confuse you :-)
 4.
As the current owner of two of those Berg cabs, all I can say is that the TKS cabs must be awesome!
They are. I'll never say a word against the Bergs - I'm a big fan - but the S212 has magic in the mids I've not really had from other cabs. It's probably just a preference thing.
 5.
Has anybody actually done a good number of gigs with an S212?
Me. Shedloads. It eclipses the wonderful Bergs (of various configurations) that I ran for years beforehand.
 6. I never touch my amp throughout a gig, or use any pedals, but I use my tone knob a lot, palm mute, switch pickups and use a plec quite a lot. It helps when going from Budapest to Chelsea Dagger, for example.
 7.
Out of curiosity, has anyone had a peek inside their S112 to see what driver they're using? I'm curious to see if Stevie's guess elsewhere on the forum is correct!
Eminence, I believe. Not sure of the specifics.
 8.
Don't think Bilbo is saying leave the settings alone for every song, more that he won't spend LOADS of time to figure out the intricacies of the tone on the track, especially when a ball park area is good enough!
Happy to be told otherwise, but that's not how I read it.
 9.
You are 'avin' a giraffe!! I would no more seek to replicate the 'tone' of the original tunes than I would dress up as the bass player who played on the original recording of each track!!
I play in a couple of covers bands (amongst others) with pretty wide-ranging setlists. I'm glad I have a choice of pickups, a tone knob and a pick, 'cos the same tone across all of them just isn't going to feel right. Most of the punters won't notice, but the band will.
 10. You'll need to keep it clear of any exposed metal, as it'll singe the plate. This guy recommends wedging it in a cake:
 11. I seem to recall the switch was added to bump up the output 'cos it wasn't hot enough to drive a power amp.
 12. I had one of these, in walnut. It was a beautiful thing - active circuit, but very natural sounding. Loads of great tones. Wide, flat neck. Unfortunately it weighed slightly more than a Humvee so it had to go.
 13. It looks legit to me based on a cursory glance at the pics... decals in the right place, 12th fret dots seem to be the right spacing... pickguard isn't a repro. What a stunner.
 14. For heaven's sake... I've waited years for a video of this tune, and... it sounds great, but the lighting is cack. What a missed opportunity. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzcA8_EkYQ0
 15.
no extra charge for each of those spec changes
Indeed, and once again I find myself wondering... How on earth do they do it? Does everyone work there for nowt? Amazing.
 16. Don't the later ones have a switch to boost the output?
 17.
That is such a nice bass! Maruszczyk are doing something right! Just a quick one because I can't seem to find the answer anywhere; are the dimensions of the Maruszczyk jake the same dimensions as a standard p bass? I am hoping to get one but a standard precision is slightly big for my size and I have a condition that limits movement in my left hand. My other bass is Fender jazz American special. The body is fine and the neck is superb on that for example.
You can pretty much spec what you like - I did.
 18. But seriously, this one's pretty good:
 19.
Abacab, surely.
You want it? You got it - well now you know.
 20.
The one played by the best bass player in the world, of course. Wish I could remember her name...
Ah, Gladys Butterworth. Awesome. She plays a P through a stock 1985 Guinness Book of Records. It sounds tremendous.
 21.
So.Much.Want.
Yeah - it's a cracker. To be honest, it's overkill for most stuff, but it's nice to have it.
 22. This one:
 23. Put it between two heavy sheets of glass in the sunlight. Leave it a while. Sorted.
