1. Something from Saturday night... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_VWJ5SiLQw&
2.
Has anyone tried one of these? http://bassdirect.co...Ass_straps.html I'm after the most padded strap I can get (within reason). Already have a Mono, and a Neotech - both work on my other basses, but my old Ricky is a bit of a boat anchor, and very tough on long gigs and rehearsals. Saw these, and thought they look of good quality, especially given in how high regard their instruments are. Ideas?
I've got two Maruzczyk Straps, and they're brilliant. Wide and well-padded, and not 'stretchy'.
3.
I do love binding with no inlays! Si
Eeew... that's WIERD!
4. It's 200w, which should be enough, like the 200w heads of old. After all, watts is watts, right? ;-)
5. What an odd response to a completely non-judgemental comment...
6. Yep - horses for courses. It took me years to realise I didn't want a cab that sounded like a big studio monitor. I wanted it to sound like a classic bass cab.
7.
The way to solve this and to play your best is to use in-ear monitors....*snip* it is the only way to lower your stage volume.
No it isn't.
8.
I'm a huge fan of Roger's, so perhaps a bit biased! I love the album. My view is that it's deliberately a bit 'Floyd by numbers' in order to appeal to as wide an audience as possible, and spread his political message as wide as possible. Also, he's been promising the fans an album (the Heartland project was mentioned by him and he was often asked about it) for about 10 years. I personally know some Floyd fans that don't like Roger's solo stuff - but do like the new album. I loved his last album, Amused To Death - but I feel I'm in the minority! In my view, in the past 15 years or so, Roger has been addressing his reputation of making self indulgent, often dreary records and reminding people he was the creative force behind Pink Floyd's most successful albums. A key point for me is that the two 'demo' songs he released in the early 2000's (Leaving Beiruit and To Kill The Child) are nowhere to be seen now. I think this is his way of giving the mainstream fans what they want.
Yep, it's definitely more concise than he's been in decades. Some of the musical moments are truly breathtaking.
9. FWIW, under the 'Hang on, that sounds like....?' veneer, lurk some great tunes.
10. Yes, some of the references are obvious (it sounds the offspring of WYWH, Animals and The Final Cut) and he needs to cheer up a bit, but... I really like it. The classic RW angular basslines are present and correct (see below - not sure if he's playing all of them or not, mind). What's your thoughts..? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEh7Ip4yvH8
11. That's great stuff, and not what I'd expect of Fender. Good on 'em.
12. Another nod to TKS for me. They meet all your critera, with maybe the exception of 800w handling. But then if you genuinely need a cab that can handle the full 800w, maybe you should be spending your money on very expensive earplugs instead :-)
13. Right-click a tab at the top - new incognito window.
14. ..and let's not even mention poor 'ol Geddy Lee. :-(
15. Open an incognito window in Chrome and try it.
16. I agree with you re: writing credits, but as mentioned earlier that bronze strat is iconic to some (rich) people.
17.
If you cant transpose to suit a singers range, you arent really a musician, are you?
What's your definition of a musician? (FWIW, I have to transpose on the fly all the time.)
18.
I love The Band, but I think even objectively speaking I would have a hard time justifying Robbie Robertson as a guitar great. Agree with OP.
Songwriting great, I meant.
19.
Never really had a problem with the concept. There's always been guitar and bass heroes but today, I saw the ad for the Robbie Robertson signature Strat. It's £12,000!! It's not as if he's actually a great guitarist or some sort of ground breaking virtuoso. A couple of great songs and the Last Waltz. That's it isn't it? Or have I missed something? Fender must be desperate to simply get a name, any name on a headstock.
You're not the target audience. There are 60ish-year-old stockbroker Band fans in New York who will queue up to buy these. And... 'a couple of great songs'? Have to disagree with you there. He's one of the greats.
20.
To be fair though (on a serious note), a lot of riffs etc don't always have the same effect when the key is changed too. Some really energetic songs can sound drab. It's not always just a case of move the shape up or down the neck and everything will be ok.
Thankfully it's not really an issue for most of the stuff I play - they're not generally riff-dependent. A good tune works in any key :-)
21. Presumably the OP is tongue-in-cheek..? If not.... *shakes head*
22. Just toying with ideas... so many choices. (The top-left and bottom-right are charcoal frost. I don't think they're as blue as that in real life.)
