1. I am thinking of learning how to slap, but play 5 string basses. How much more difficult is it? Ta Mike
2. Do you ever head to the south coast in the middle? I am in Chichester and not worth heading north, but interesed if you can get it to anywhere near me. We are playing Liss in a few weeks time??? Ta Mike
3. Doing originals is like buying a lottery ticket, at least you have a chance of winning. When was the last time a covers band became multi millionaire / platinum selling artist. Sadly like most things, they are what they are and if you don't like it you can vote with your feet or turn to the dark side. Worst thing is pubs that are rally lazy and get a set rota of bands, some of whom bring in no punters and / or are just rubbish but refuse to even listen to you when you are ramming other pubs and could do much better for them.
4. This is setting itself up quite nicely as it's own soap opera. Great read so far!
5. Learnt to pack a small mac at Download 2010 when it rained hard for two solid hours. I vowed to carry a coat with me at all times. I leant my mac to somone who was freezing cold at Download 2011 on Friday night and didn't see them again so had to use the outer of my sleeping bag which was waterproof on the Sunday. Rock and / or Roll ;-) Metallic were great, a spot on set. House of Pain were a guilty pleasure ;-)
6. No worries about detracting. I just thought they had the best sound by a mile. I could feel certain parts of me vibrate in a not unpleasureable way with some of their notes. I don't think Bill Bailey rose to the occaision, which made me sad. Great weekend though.
7. Got back from Soni. Limp Bizkits sound was unreal. The lows on the bass guitar were truly earth shattering. Slipknot were lower but Bizkit were subbing really cleanly. I thought it must have been a sample at first but much close watching it was amazing also Wes Borland is an amazing guitarist. Must get his set up. Ta Mike
8. I shall attend, I will bring my Jeff berlin combo and what I think is a Mark 1 Barefaced Compact Cab. I would like to try this against a new one so I can hear the difference and see how they fit together, if that is OK with you Alex ;-) Ta Mike
9. Someone was asking for some youtube links. Here you go to last nights gig filmed by a basschatter in the audiece. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdtlICtZx_E http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVqa3KK7-sk A very brilliant night indeed.
10. Anyone got any advice on how to p;ay for an hour and a half without a wee break? Mike
11. Always wanted to form a marlillion tribute. if they come to the south coast (near france) I will be first in the queue
12. Finally get the cash together to buy them and GAK put the price up by £70. Isn't someone on here connected to there and let me pay the original price;-) Well, you've got to try!
13. She has just played "Sex on fire" so she will be coming to a pub near you soon ;-)
14. Hi Guys My band Dropzone will be headlining the mainstage of Drakefest at the Admiral Drake on Saturday 2 July. We will be playing tracks by Slipknot, Korn, System of a Down, Limp Bizkit, Pendulem, The Prodigy and other rock favourites. We are on from 9.30 - 11 pm hope to see a couple of you there. Ta Mike
15. If you have a spare bass take it and make sure both are in tune before you start. If you are active have spare batteries.
16. Also Beyonce is showing how to ramp it up as a headliner should. i love U2 but they are capable of much more than they delivered. Admittedly the rain may have played a big part in that.
17.
So, whats the band called?, any youtube clips? Obviously we all need to compare you to U2, and see what Glastonbury is missing?
The band is called Dropzone, the festival is called Drakefest. We are also playing Brightona and Rockforheroes festival this year. Website is www.dropzone-band.com of find us on facebook. There are quite a few clips of us on youtube but I haven't really checked any of them. We are more a Sonisphere or Download type band but if Glastonbury called it would only be rude to refuse ;-) The longest journey starts has to start with a first step.
18.
I'm guessing your band are pretty good then?
We are mainstage headlining a three day festival next weekend, although admittedly it is not glastonbury ;-) If you are in Portsmouth come and see us. Last year when we played the same festival the singers tendon snapped on his knee cap in the first song. He still completed the set then went straing to A + E and was in a cast for six months. We think we are quite good ;-)
19. I would be embarassed if the performance by U2 was one of my performances. For ther stars they are they should know better
20. Purchased a compact and it is bloody brilliant and he is a top chap. Many thanks Mike
21. We go for fabrick as you can change the size eaisly and is much lighter. We also have some lighting truss that we hang it from as some venues dont like you sticking things in. We painted our own after our professional one went missing after a festival.
22. Hi Walts I will take it if it is still available? I live in Chichester on the south coast. I am at Download this weekend but after that I am sure we can sort something. Let me know Mike
23. I actually treat our gigs as a paid night out with mates. The punters get in to see us for free and we don't get paid anywhere near as much as we deserve. Have a couple before going on rock out like a monster have a few more after. The band are all in their late 30s or 40s and still try and rock out like teenagers so we need it to oil the wheels. Do try and not have too much but that can be difficult once you are on it but am mostly successful ;-)
24. We open the first set with Last resort by Papa Roach and the second set with Nightmare by Avenged Sevenfold Sets up the rest of the set quite nicely.
25. There was this one time at band camp..... Reading these have reminded me of too many of my gigs. A vast majority have gone swimmingly but here are a few howlers 1. Playing a biker festival in a marquee in the worst rain ever. It was fine when we set up. The rain tipped into our gear boxes and I would get electectuted whenever I went to sing BVs so had to play the set on the drum riser. Same gig a monstrous drunk biker fell into the stage trashing a monitor. 2. Singer asks the guitarist to play the opening riff to Duality by Slipknot, which the guitarist does. Queue the singer going in to the song and the rest of the band all looking at each other trying to find a way in or out of a song we don't know and never rehearsed. 3. My band cancells a gig so I throw a load of talented musicians together with no notice and give them a list of songs to play. Fail of the worst kind. We still joke about it today. 4. We are headlining a biker festival in Hastings and I forget to pack my bass. 5. Start a gig and two strings fall off my bass at the same time. 6. We are sub headlining a festival and the singers knee gives way in the first song. We complete the set but it takes the band six montths to recover. However, we are headlining the festival this year ;-) 7. My band are supposed to be the opening act for a festival with the bands playing from the back of a truck. The generator doesn't work and it takes the organisers three hours to sort power, which was the whole show running from a single plug socket in a toilet with a nail for a fuse. We ended up headlining the festival as everyone else went home and the next night was rained off. Ta Mike
