1.
No, this isn't about not looking after your instruments/gear! Remember in the old days, new cars used to come with clear plastic seat covers. Some people used to keep them on. Felt crap to sit on but kept their seats clean.
In the old days when I was young I could never afford a new car and didn't know anyone who could so I missed out on those seat covers.
2.
Ive got one in my P but would love another Fralin. I think the Fender has a more woody tone but i loved the Fralin P i had (2 in fact)
The Fralin is quite pricey though.
3.
I would be very surprised if a single contributor to this sight hasnt at some stage owned a decal job squier. ...
Never owned one here.
4.
Fender 62RI Original should do the trick.
Got one of those in my 62RI - it does do the trick.
5. I try to look after my equipment and don't really understand why anyone wouldn't look after their equipment. I'm not precious about it and if it gets a dink so be it and I'm the same with other things in my life. I also carry spare batteries and strings and leads.
6. I'd say from the pics that it looks fairly normal. However, that's irrelevant, so if you're not happy then send it back.
7. I think it's called an extended arpeggio. The intervals between the notes are alternating major third and minor third. As you build the chords you go C, Cmaj7, Cmaj9, Cmaj9#11, etc. But I'm right at the edge of my knowledge here so I could be talking rubbish and I'm definitely not explaining why.
8. In which Brian Wilson demonstrates the use of the tug bar and Mike Love performs an early version of the moonwalk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgDApIGvFxA&
9. I don't see anything wrong with changing basses if that suits the song - I do it often, fretted, fretless, upright.
10. Very nice Jake. I'm tempted to describe you as lucky but I guess it's actually talent and hard work and not luck.
11.
I hated GAK. The mail order concern is a dingy warehouse next to Quik Fit in Brighton. It's run by bored and unhelpful teenage girls. In my experience, they will advertise something as being in stock for next day delivery and then actually get it drop-shipped to you, which can take weeks. The shop in Brighton's lanes though, is excellent. Chris the Bass saleman is a really chilled, friendly and knowlegable chap (with some impressive face furniture), and they have a good range of basses, and amps just about anything notable except exotic stuff right off the peg. Gak, then is two completely different concerns and two completely different experiences.
I've had good service from GAK mail order as well as from the shop.
12. How about a US Lakland Decade
13. Perhaps we've had this before but I couldn't find it when searching so here we go. Chaotic, setting up own gear, Mal Evans helping Ringo move the rotating drum riser, but the band are very tight, it's all here: http://youtu.be/X9SuSR7icVc
14.
I always say that I've had everything from A to Z (except Alembic & Zon)
How about an A Bass: ... or, much better, a Zemaitis:
15.
Hello there, I am one week into fitting Blue Steels onto my G&L L2000. I thought it might just be my ears but I too have discovered the same problem. EAD absolutely fine, though the G sound insanely weak. It's like it has been cryogenically deactivated. Will be refitting the stock strings tonight. Geraint from Dean Markley, do you want me to send you them back? Thanks, Garry
If I was you I'd email him direct - he did give his address - and he may not be looking at this.
16.
Hi. As you can see, it is a Ric bridge, so has the same adjustable damping in it.
Ah. yes, of course it is. I hadn't quite put two and two together there.
17. I expect someone with more expertise than me will be along soon to explain it but all the sheet musics for the song seem to give the key signature as G#m (i.e. five sharps).
18.
+1 - I tried this before buying one. Capo on the second fret & you're not far off the short scale of a Mustang bass or EB-3
Yep, second fret is approx 30.3" scale whereas first fret is approx 32.1" scale.
19. ... and the melody in the opening bar goes G# G# B G# B D# (i.e. G#m triad) while the bass holds an E note underneath.
20. I'd say G#m. Sheet music here: http://www.sheetmusicdirect.com/Product.aspx?ID_No=110677 Opening chord is given as Emaj7 which is same notes as G#m6 with an E in the bass (like a G#m/E). And where your tab says Abm it should say G#m.
21. There should more pics, including some close ups.
22. Take a 34" scale bass and tune it to Eb-Ab-Db-Gb. Put a capo on the first fret. You now have a very close to 32" scale bass tuned to E-A-D-G. It should give you a feel for what you are going to get. Of course the dot markers won't be in the usual places.
