1. ... and a bit more description and where are you based?
 2.
... it gave his missus a headache ...
Him not getting laid is not your problem.
 3.
One of the many reasons that I got rid of my Squier VMJ was that it was nearly impossible to get the G and D strings in tune. No matter what I did to the string retainer the windings on the strings kept getting caught and the strings would vary between being 20 cents sharp to 20 cents flat. Also the amount of the string you had to wrap around the A and E machine head posts meant that they took much longer to settle down into tune after changing strings.
Maybe I'm always a bit out of tune.
Of course when the Fender Bass headstock was designed everyone used flats and only ever changed strings if they broke them so I imagine that these issues were never even considered.
Ah, that's me.
 4.
... On a Fender-style headstock ... tuning stability problems
I've never experienced that.
 5. I've also used 'blankety-blank'.
 6.
Some nice DB playing in Spanish style, even if not strictlyt flamenco, by Renaud Garcia Fons
That is fantastic.
 7. When they replaced a damaged stand for me it was about fourteen days from my initial email requesting a replacement to receipt of the replacement but those fourteen days included Chrstmas and New Year.
 8. Very nice, I've always fancied one of those.
 9. Cocktail sticks are harder wood than matchsticks and so, IMO, provide a more substantial and lasting result.
 10. My words are always something like dee-dah-didly-da.
 11. Fill the hole with cocktail sticks and a bit of wood glue. When it's dry, screw the straplok back on.
 12.
Oh, er, what was the original question?
Please, no more [s]splitting hairs[/s] hair splitting.
 13.

14.
What are thumb rests (or tug bars) generally made of? I've got one on my P which is hollow plastic and appears to be the same as those used on Fender re-issues, but were they always plastic, or were they made of wood on the early Fenders? It's one of those things I've always wondered but never got round to asking!
They were wooden.
 15.
Well we lived in a septic tank in't middle of lake, etc. Nowhere to put a sofa.
You could have put it on the edge of the lake, that would have been very nice.
 16. My strings cost more than your bass.
 17.
That was sofas. In the old days the car seats were made out of shiny plastic.
Never had a new sofa till I was 40 either.
 18.
... a pickup cover over the middle/neck pup, and I've been resting on that. It gives a really nice anchor position for your thumb. I know they were initially intended for pick players to rest their hand on? ...
And for tugbar users for the heal of the hand.
 19.
I'm probably just splitting hairs.
Surely you mean 'hair splitting'.
 20.
+1 to this, if you play a perfect fourth in a chord, you essentially replace the 3rd.
... and that's a sus4 - yes?
 21.
Ok the SPB 1 and Fender Original sit nicely in my budget and both sound as if they are what I am after- has anybody tried both and can describe the differences? A quick google search brought up a couple of talkbass threads and the general opinion was the SPB 1 has a deeper, bassier tone- more Motown, while the FO has a bit more growl for a more rocking 60's tone. I play fingerstyle on rounds, so might edge for the Fender if that's the case.
My 62RI with flat La Bellas sounds very Motown.
 22.
<p> LukeFRC's post.
I'm no wiser.
 23.
If YOU don't like the bass sound, what's the point?
Maybe you get paid.
 24.
I'm very surprised.
Probably only relatively surprised.
 25.
No, this isn't about not looking after your instruments/gear!
What is it about then?
