1. I've used ordinary long scale Chromes on a P bass - like you, through the bridge - no problem.
 2. When I had a WAV4 I used it through a K&K Pure Sound preamp and a Radial Bassbone too.
 3. Maybe if you'd have reposted the relevant pic here it would have been easier for people to spot it: JULY 1978
 4. So, my Hofner Artist, which cost me £30 in 1974 was 48 guineas ( = £50/8sh. = £50.40) in 1963.
 5. First bass (1974): Hofner Artist 185 (used) £30 = approx two weeks wages after tax. Second bass (1975): Hayman 4040 (new) £110 = approx six weeks wages after tax. Third bass (1976): Fender Precision (new) £220 = approx ten weeks wages after tax. .... Seventeenth bass (2011): Takamine B10 (used) £1200 = approx two weeks wages after tax.
 6. Have a great gig, sorry I can't make it.
 7. It's in Stuart Clayton's book: http://stuartclayton.com/books/nile-rodgers-bernard-edwards-funk-disco-grooves-for-bass-guitar/
 8.
How could they afford Ric`s? I assume that they were as expensive then as they are now? Did they nick em? Buy them with their record advance?
Rickenfakers maybe.
 9.
A confession. I've played bass for nearly 40 years and have never EVER bought a single string. To put this another way, my 74 Jazz has 74 strings. Sounds lovely too. Sorry. CB
Excellent, you ought to get a medal - an old medal of course.
 10.
I did a piano trio gig once where the band was in the middle of diners. The drummer was so close to the punters that his cymbales were nearer them than they were to him. I was watching him at one point and he was hitting his snare drum so quietly that the snare (which was on) wasn't actually ratlling! Its all about control. No instrument is inately loud; it is up to the player to control volume.
I sometimes play with a drummer who varies what drums he uses for each particular gig. For example, he has three different snare drums - I don't know the details but one is big, one is medium and one is small and he'll choose the one he thinks will be most appropriate for that gig.
 11. It sounds to me like his coil-tap switch is broken, that's why the humbucker which goes through that switch is not working. He didn't realise that the active/passive switch was the push/pull on the vol/bal control.
 12.
Thanks for that! It looks to be a active/passive switch! So does that wiring diagram mean I could change the function of the switch too? Even though at the minute the switch is missing on my bass and since its fell off the bridge pup wont work...
That sounds like the coil-tap switch and not the active/passive switch.
 13.
Get it early next week
Full report required.
 14.
Well, fastest finger first, as some old comedy hack would say!
Anyway, how's the Rob Allen?
 15.
Good choice Dave
Steady on, I haven't had a reply yet.
 16.
... Our drummer is a fairly firm hitter and says hitting softer affects technique ...

I find that the best drummers that I have played with have good dynamic feel and can hit as heavy or soft as need be. I don't know for sure, but hitting softer would probably encourage better technique rather than compromising it, or vice versa.
Yes, if you can't play softly then you can't do dynamics.
 17. Our drummer is in control of his volume. This is in part by using a variety of sticks, beaters, brushes, hot rods, etc., but mostly by only hitting the drums and cymbals as hard as is needed for the song and the gig.
 18.
i would love to here from 9 string players about techniques, possible songs and see more examples rather than "thats not a bass" "yes it is" I mean who cares what it is classified as.
The people who play one seem to care enough to want to classify it as a bass instrument.
 19. If you read the specification it says the switch is for separate humbucker configuration (series, parallel, or single coil). The preamp is deactivated by push/pull on the volume/balance control.
 20.
Agreed the pickups don't line up but considering the sound on the video, it doesn't seem to make a great deal of difference or should it? ...
The alignment problem is probably more aesthetic than sonic.
 21. I have to agree the Delgada did look stylish.
 22.
... there seem to be quite a few posts above with conflicting/contradicting posts on the same retailers so it might be safe to presume that either different shop staff were dealing or you caught them on an off day!
Yes, there are several retailers praised highly here who I have had very poor experiences with and vice versa.
