1.
Can you imagine Jagger singing - I'm fixing a hole where the rain comes in _ _ _ _
If he was getting paid enough then yes.
2. When checking out a bass one needs to stop thinking one is being tested. The bass is being tested not you. Don't perform. Play every note on every string, Play octaves, play fifths. Use different pickups, play with the tone controls. Etc.etc.
3.
...what about Pino's intro to Wherever I lay My Hat, it is really a solo and makes the song ...
For me that's not a solo at all. It's merely part of the melodic instrumentation of that performance.
4.
... a chorus, half a chorus, or a middle eight according to what the tune is doing ...
I can live with that.
5.
Is this the Japanese model? I can confirm these are superb. The quality is excellent and the guitar is super easy to play.
Yes, apparently only 300 made so it took me two years to find one. It needed a setup and a shim but plays very nicely.
6. I don't like solos at all. Instrumental sections is good but guitar solos are so old hat ~ stop doing it.
7. That took me way back. Charlie Wayne and the Vikings was one of the first bands I saw live.
8. The pickups are Seymour Duncan lipstick tubes for Stratocasters.
9. Thomann do a 30 day money back guarantee.
10. I just bought my son a slightly late 21st birthday present ~ Fender Jaguar Thinline. Pics to follow.
11. I might have to go to try one out in local shop.
12.
I must be thinking of a different one
Maybe the custom shop version.
13. £691 at GAK. Is that staggering?
14.
+1 it looks good - but with a Bass VI style headstock I think it'd be even nicer ...
Yes, Bass VI body already.
15. Very good and Spain good too.
16.
Huh, even more versatile than I first imagined! Really curious to try a short-scale bass now. Wonder how it would look with a slightly smaller headstock...looks a bit out of scale with the body.
The headstock looks like a Coronado headstock, which is also a 30" scale, so maybe they are using the same neck.
17.
That's a somewhat non-standard bridge!
Guild harp bridge in style at least.
18. I have a 2008 Lakland Skyline Decade and it's perfect in every way
19. Most often no amplification. Or Phil Jones Bass Buddy plus Beyer DT250 headphones and iPod goes through that too. Or, with others, Phil Jones Bass Briefcase which is 100watt 2x5".
20. The Ranelagh is a nice gig, but the stage is ... well ... not there really. I'd come down but I'll be in Spain.
21.
ET, I thank you for that.
You're welcome, it's a cracker.
22. She is Sam and I am Dave.
23.
Obviously the antigua finish is an acquired taste ...
It certainly is. I really like it .... sometimes. The Squier looks more of a brown Antigua than a green Antigua.
24.
Yep, I play rudimentary guitar when I have my songwriter hat on. I struggle with a plectrum, so my strumming technique uses the index finger and thumb nails: my right hand is as if I'm holding a plectrum (very loosely), so on downstrokes I hit the strings with my index fingernail and on upstrokes with the thumbnail. (There's probably a name for this technique!)
That's fair enough but I was more meaning for example ...
