  1. I bought a rack because back then there wasn't a stomp and the rack fit nicely into my 3u Kemper-sized hole. Buying a Helix today though? The Stomp for sure. When I use more than 6 or so blocks in a chain it's usually laziness and wanting everything in one patch. Recently though I've been creating patches that have certain feels 'Pick Rock' or 'Heavy Comp' or song-specific ones. In that case they're not usually more than 6. I'd have a Stomp and do the same thing, just use the internal switches to go up and down. To answer a question in your OP: In the Helices you can have preamp, amp, cab or amp+cab as one block depending on your preference and need.
  2. I'm ex-Kemper, so I know it doesn't quite suit me and yet I still really want one. That's a cool, futuristic piece of gear right there.
  3. So, my love affair with DI boxes and preamps is getting slightly out of hand. * Not pictured: a BDDI (at guitarist's house) and the other SB-2 in my Helix's rack. So, while I can't bring myself to part with too many of them, it's time for some to go! SOLD £50 - Zoom B3 A perennial BC favorite, the B3 just does a lot of things really, really well. It has amps, preamps, eqs, effects pedals and all sorts of other stuff that can all be switched with their own footswitch. There's also LOADS of I/O, it's a great solution for gigging or home practice. Boxed, with power supply and manual. SOLD £95 - TC Spectradrive Well, it's the EQ from the TC amp with a Spectracomp added on. I mean, what more could you want? Oh, you want an aux in and a headphone out along with a great DI? Cool, you can have those. Boxed with psu and manual. £75 - Rolls MP-13 Fantastic mic preamp with up to 50dB of clean gain. XLR and 3.5mm input, XLR and TRS output. I've been using it on a board to take mic level DIs from preamp stompboxes and lift that up to line level. It runs from a standard Boss-style 9V psu. £20 - Behringer MIC100 Awesome preamp and DI. TS and XLR in, TRS and XLR output. Great tube DI and can output at either line or mic levels. Come boxed with a power supply. £20 for a DI! £50 - AMT CN-1 Cab sim pedal that I bought but whilst the controls are responsive and variable on guitar they're more subtle on bass and it's not really a pedal for me. As new (aside from velcro) and boxed with manual etc. £100 - Pedaltrain Spark PSU that sits under any pedaltrain board. Some slight scuffing but I have the box, the bracket and the cables. SOLD £30 - TC MojoMojo Industry-standard low-gain overdrive. Good condition (aside from velcro) and boxed. I'm in Woodside, about 10 minutes North-West of Newcastle. Prices include postage. Hey all, I recently bought this from Delberthot because I broke my G50 receiver and I was in a pickle but that storm (gigging? without a wireless? impossible!) has now passed so my need for this has also passed. It works with pretty much any Line 6 transmitter and it's powered by a standard 9V boss power supply. I'm in Woodside, about 10 minutes North-West of Newcastle.   6. Ginger Wildheart. Yes, now that I'm 30 and a musician myself I know there's 'better' players or whatever but that's not important. A punk rock band from my hometown that formed in he year that I was born made guitar music cool to 14 year-old me and they're pretty much the reason I picked up an instrument to begin with. I've been lucky enough to meet Ginger once or twice as well.
  7. Hey all. I have, like, and use a Phonic iSK 8A powered wedge. It's nothing special. It's not my Barefaced FR800, or either of my bands RCF or even Alto gear. But hey, it was £30 on ebay and it consistently allows me to hear vocals over stage din. A lot of my gigs are ampless these days, and sometimes it's even my only source of stage bass (helped by the main FOH subs of course). Recently: fart, boom, splosh. Broken speaker. I don't know what did it. Maybe I overcooked it on a gig. Are there any decent replacement speaker options or is it time to file the whole wedge under 'B'? What do I even need to start making educated guesses? Internal box size is about 19.1 liters, minus driver, port and bracing (so what, 17-18l?) And there are 2 ports with a 50mm diameter and about 8cm deep. The internal amp provides 300W and I totally forgot to look at what the original speaker was. I know I'm going to get lots of 'not worth it' responses and fair enough. Are any of the cheaper speakers on Blue Aran even worth it? Can you get a decent speaker for less than say £40? Probably not. Is there anything I can to save this wedge!?

  9. I'm fairly sure it was my thread. Hook on the board! That way you can have loop on the pedals and THAT WAY you can safely put pedals on carpet.
  10. I have no experience with the Bass VI clone, but the Harley Benton that I own is brilliant and I've never seen a bad word written about any of their basses. If I had to take a punt and buy unplayed it'd be on that.

  13. My indie-rock type band uses the 712s, and whilst they're decent PA speakers they don't hold a candle to my Barefaced FR800 in terms of either output or bass response. I did a quick shootout once in a rehearsal room and I feel that they'd be great for guitar or something but they couldn't carry bass in a room IME. I haven't used the 732 but by all accounts they're much more capable, with RCF at least I'd say you need the not-budget ones. On the basis that the 735s are largely overkill and the 712s aren't really enough the 732 seem to be the sweet spot. Of course, you may have a different definition of 'loud enough' to me.

  15. If it helps any, I got a Stingray in a trade that came with the MMSR already installed. I knew that the original preamp was better, so I took it out and sold it. I then immediately regretted it and bought another. It's almost worth it just to have bloomin' center detentes on the bass and treble, but the semi-parametric mid means it's capable of a lot more tonal variation than many basses.
  16. Gotcha, I do now notice that you said 'combo cabs' and that does make sense. Maybe I should stop skiving at work and then I would have the time to read posts properly. 🙂 To answer the actual question: I don't know of any female/female 1/4" couplers or male/female extension cables that can handle speaker-level signals. To be fair, at the voltages that bass amps use I don't like ANY 1/4" connections, but as you've noticed, they're your only choice here. You may have to make one.

  18. That's the exact stand that I use. A micro head might work on top of it but my rack just has to go on the floor.

  20. Hah! No, sorry, didn't mean for it to come out like that. I'm a serial gear flipper but a (my) 1001ii is one of the very few things I regret selling and I wish I'd held onto it. There's enough out there that I'll just wait until I need an amp again before buying another one, but if I ever do see mine for sale I'm buying it back whether I need it or not.

  22. Power strip at the top on the back, one (easy to reach) switch for everything. The real problem is (and Ashdown are just as bad) there's no secondary input on the back. I'm buying a rackmount head => I'm probably going to rack mount it => I likely have other rack gear (tuners, wireless, etc), all of which has the I/O on the back => I have to have a stupid trailing cable from the back to the front of the rack that I have to plug and unplug every time or at best some custom job that feeds through. Props to Peavey for getting it so right with the Tour series.

  24. As mentioned, lots of cheaper basses get very close to the sound but not the feel. 'Real' Rays feel somehow solid. Confident. Keep an eye out for one on here, there's nothing spoiling so wait for a good deal. I sold my black one for not much over your £800 and it was pristine. My red one would be way under your budget if I listed it here. If you're ever in Newcastle...
