  1. I too always have used the little finger, I'd not come from a guitar playing background at all, ( I did play saxophone before I ever picked up a bass.) In fact I developed quite a bulging muscle on the "karate" edge of the left hand just from little finger usage playing bass.
  2. I'm pretty sure it was Alaska, tho as you mention it Huskys rings a bell too, trouble is I've been to so many rehearsal places over the years you lose track of them all!
  3. Meths of course Jimmy... Jazz bass, nah, I've tried a few and just couldn't like them, tho I'd admit to a PJ now..
  4. Possibly that's why they supply the thing with those lighter strings to begin with? I wonder what the original 60s spec strings were when these came out, as a Fender Vl..
  5. I wonder if a Bigsby type trem would work better on a bass 6, just thinking more generic B6 rather than the Squier specifically. I'm quite tempted to do a bodge/build VI, rickenbacker ish maybe 😁
  6. There's also a screw in the middle of the vibrato tailpiece you can tighten right up, which I've done seeing as I'm not really using the trem capability at the mo, this firms the unit up greatly. The sleeving of the pegs as above would be a good plan and easy to achieve , tho again not found bridge wobbling an issue on mine. The pu's to me are absolutely fine, and no point replacing, in my world at least... I always put this thing thru a certain amount of effects anyway and don't envisage ever really hearing the un-altered bare sound of the pickups as such.
  7. Absolutely, I had a 6 string regular bass for a short time and found the 4x2 plank of a neck not exactly conducive to anything really, and against the prevailing trend ( as always) I just dislike everything about 5's I didn't know Fender did a set for theseπŸ‘... you'd think they'd fit them to the Squiers from the outset really wouldn't you.
  8. Not a case of missed the gig but in this case the van broke down on the way home.. Unfortunately the gig was in Manchester and home was London. It was an old borrowed battered ford Transit, and got us there OK, but the return trip, not so much, it died on the M6 Middle of the night, pitch black, no chance of getting it going again. We were faced with getting 5 people and a bands worth of gear back to London. We hit on the insane idea of hitching lifts, individuallly, with whatever kit the kind lift giver could take. Incredibly this plan actually worked and everyone eventually got back with the gear intact. I got a lift from a guy in an MG of all things and we managed to lever a 4x12 cabinet into it somehow, plus me and a bass etc.. This guy was an absolute star and went out of his route to drop me right outside where we were leaving out stuff in Central London . The Transit was simply abandoned by the side of the motorway and the owners informed, luckily despite being the driver for the ill fated return trip, I hadn't been involved in the borrowing, so was able to walk away from that one..
  9. I've got one of these, tbh I certainly wouldn't be spending 100 quid on another bridge for it! The main issue seems to be getting the low E saddle back far enough to intonate it, some have simply reversed the bridge and put the adj screws at the front enabling the saddle to go right back. A slightly thicker string on the E has helped with the intonation when others have changed them, I've got stock strings on it for now and still doing adjustments. There's a firm doing a string set for these with a heavier E, the sets only about 20 quid too, so good value compared to most other options. I can't remember off hand what they're called, I'll report back. Great fun instrument to play and an excellent "ideas machine" too. edit... Axion string works, Newtone Squier VI set, UK based, they assemble a set to order.
  10. That resonates with me for sure, some gig I did with a band I was filling in for a few dates.. on this occasion, unusually, someone videoed it, and I did an absolute howler of a bum note, it was a slow bit and the bass was kind of carrying the song at that point too... Oops! Typical, as you rightly say you'd normally get away with it as the moment's gone. You'd definitely have needed to overdub the above Fk-up if it were for public viewing! Anyway the band's certainly long dead by now, so I expect it's thankfully buried ! πŸ˜‚
  11. Must have.. Absolutely ! 😁
  12. I remember once we did something with a click track, this was also with a real drummer, when we listened back to it we were all spot on together with each other no prob...just that by the end the click track was miles out with the rest of us.. 🀣
  13. I doubt it in the shltty lil' library round here, but I'll check it out! πŸ‘
  14. Jeeez you can 3d print stuff at your library? 😲
  15. A bizarre variant on that I've heard of ( not had one myself but know someone who did ) is the.... "we've got video of you "pleasuring yourself " in front of your computer screen and unless you pay 400 bucks.... etc etc
