@glassmoon thanks for the reply. What you have said is pretty much what I've read. I'm after another ABM head after mine spontaneously combusted a month ago, and this pedal opened up the option to just buy a decent power amp and run a pedal setup, but with Ashdown tone..

As an ex owner of an ABM ( MK1 ) is it safe to say this isn't for me if I want the AMB tone? I use the valve grind dial around 3pm and love that warm valve breakup. Best sounding amp I've had and looking to get another, but was looking at this as an alternative...

surely there's a bigger risk of distortion from a smaller amp. Just as in HiFi. If your cab can handle 800watts and you run a 300 watt amp into it at full tilt, there's a risk of the power amp distorting, producing non sine waves and wrecking your speakers. Maybe that's what your hearing. Your safest bet is to use an amp that is too big for the job, not too small.

I know not to trust the manufacturers demos, and there's no way I could justify spending £400 on one, BUT.. they sounds absolutely sublime.... and I want one..

So my Mk1 ABM 500 is beyond saving. 😔 Anyone with an EVO 1 or 2 ABM 500 or 900 ( head or combo ) laying around they're not using? 🙏

Gutted. My ABM500 EVO MK1 blew up yesterday. And I do mean blew up. Fire, Smoke, the lot. Power amp has gone. Pretty expensive to replace, so I'm just having the PA disconnected and going to use the head as a pre amp. Having new valve put in while its open..

Wal pro bass. ‘78 I think.
