GHS Booomers are definitely higher tension than 7250s, XLs. Probably equal to Rotos. Lo Riders are medium-low tension for a hexcore round... not sure why people think they're high tension. The highest tension roundwounds I've had experience of are the OLD Fender 7250s in the sky blue packaging. Honestly if I were you, I would just try a higher gauge string, think 50-110.

Jesus... I returned a Cutlass a couple of years ago because of the poor shielding but wormwood is unacceptable. Glad you got it sorted.

I normally keep the balance knob in the middle or roll it toward the neck pup. It's a J and MM pup configuration so can't comment on what the P pup sounds like... bedroom volume sounds ace, gig volume sounds ace. I normally run it through a TC Spark Booster for a little extra grunt but am starting to find I like it just as much with no effects. Running it through my MXR M80 clean channel sounds awesome.
