  1. I suspect they may have been either: a) being ironic or b) from the interior of Oz 😀
  2. I'm loving it! Much better tracking, more instantly useable sounds... I have a feeling our band no longer needs either a keyboard or rhythm guitar! By V4 we'll be able to get rid of lead guitar and drummer too...
  3. Not quite sure how the Amyls got on, they're just a bit rubbish and not very tight, but at least they had some energy and were moderately entertaining, unlike that Gallagher bloke who got an enormous interview too. Best band I felt were with the rapper bloke, though they were rather bland...
  4. I find that listening and playing along to music that's different from what I normally play helps... Frinstance, our band's latest song was inspired by me listening to Ornette Coleman's Prime Time and attempting to play along with Jamaaladeen. I also got lots of inspiration from trying to do some of the chords in Jonas Hellborg's chord book - there were all sorts of inversions and strange chords that I'd never even dreamt of!
  5. When I've got my yellow and purple platform boots on I'm just over 5'10"...
  6. Animal Logic's songs were cheesey, the bits inbetween the singing not so much! I was also at the Town & Country gig, which was much more of a disappointment thatn the time I saw the Stanley Clarke Band, or the time at the Festival Hall with Stan, Herbie, Wayne Shorter and Omar Hakim! Now Golden Palominos were largely awful - I think they did about 1 good song (whose name I don't remember) with Jamaaladeen on bass...
  7. Keep them somewhere sunny - ours thrive on a windowsill that gets full sun for 1/2 day and good light for the rest. We water about once a week from the bottom (i.e in large saucer) but don't let it stand in water for days. Feed with citrus feed or seaweed about once a month, and lookout for scale insects on the leaves. They're very susceptible indoors - as a result we put ours outside from about late May to end Sept for birds to eat... Prune and dead leaves...
  8. It is! We run a garden centre and most of the plants in what I call music room and my wife calls the garden room are undergoing TLC so they'll be good enough to sell... The sound of a punkfunk band rehearsing in there doesn't seem to do them any harm!
  9. Nowt from me, Doug'll be pleased to hear... 😁 Too busy arranging and rehearsing for recording at Foel Studios next week.
  10. And in about a year I will have worked out exactly what the (essentially) 9 knobs do!
  11. Just bought an ACG Recurve Custom from @Bigwan of this parish. And it's the absolute business! I can see why there's so much raving about them... It does just about everything my Wal does, but is lighter and possibly even easier to play. So do I sell the Sandberg Bassic or Parker PB51?
  12. I was fortunate enough to buy an ACG Recurve from Ian. Despite UPS's attempts to throw a spanner in the works it arrived, communication was flawless, bass in perfect nick (as described) and very well packed. Highly recommended as a seller, and I'm rapidly becoming an ACG fanboy!
  13. I saw them in Bristol a few years ago at some pub. You'd think with their level of general brilliance they'd have several roadies, groupies, hangers-on etc.. Poor fellas were humping their own gear out just like I have to! They coulda been a contender. Or at least shoulda, considering some of the less worthy who did make it! I remember back in the late 80s my band sent a tape to Rough Trade. They sent back a standard rejection letter which had tick boxes next to 4 options: Excellent stuff, but not what we're looking for at the moment, but do keep going! (they'd ticked this one) Has potential, but you probably need to do some work Terrible, give up now, you're not cut out for music Deacon Blue standard 😀
  14. Aye - though Xerox and Whip aren't on it IIRC 😎 However, he was briefly in another of my favourite bands whose bass players (Jeremy Harrington and a bit later, Andy Warren out of off of the Antz) convinced me Bass was The Place:
  15. Animal Logic! You'd think Stanley (despite some of his dodgier solo offerings) and Stewart Copeland could produce something better than 80s cheese!
  16. I don't know why, but he's becoming increasingly annoying to me... Sure, he plays well - but he's by no means the best; it's just that he has to play everything in such a "look-at-me" way. It seems to be less about the music about more about him. And I've got no problem with musician-as-entertainer - I'm a huge Bootsy fan! Just that he doesn't have the coolness to pass it off as something more than looking like he's gagging for a piddle! Each to there own - I'm sure some find him most endearing...
  17. I remember seeing him on Rockschool - this clip IIRC - which made me think bass was much cooler than keyboards!
  18. At work, and managed to squeeze Steve Coleman and the 5 Elements onto the playlist with "The Tao of Mad Phat"... And nobody has whinged about the excess of widdley jazz!
  19. More like the not-at-all-late Dr John Cooper Clarke, who penned my favourite Haiku (in fact only Haiku I know or can be bothered with): To freeze A Moment In seventeen syllables Is very difi
  20. 😄 Funnily I've just written a song loosely based on this:
  21. Wot, even better than You've Got Foetus On Your Breath, or his later incarnation, Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel? 😁
  22. I'd like to humbly submit some lyrics of my own to illustrate just how deep musical verse can be (imagine it intoned in a Manchester accent): 1. My mate Dave, he turned to me With great portent and evident glee “There’s a storm a-comin’” quoth he “There’s thunder in them hills you’ll see 2. “There’s a rumble in the jungle, a one-gun salute “More tea vicar? Me flatus is acute “You thought I couldn’t play the Tibetan noseflute “I think I’ve just spattered me 3 piece suit” There she blows! 3. I said to him “just be direct, call a spade a spade, “you’ll get respect. “Don’t just blame your dialect, “that’s an excuse that I reject “even if your kecks are now brown-flecked, “maybe now you’ll be more circumspect 4. He said “You can’t hold what you haven’t got in your hand “better an empty house than a bad tenant “get out and walk, I should be on Grandstand! “that one’d drown out Barbara Streisand” There she blows! 5. I heard it’d all ended in tears. He’d done summat daft and confirmed me fears He’d been practicing a trick to impress his mates Showing what’d happen when his abdomen inflates And a match is applied to the rear of his pants However, he set fire to the curtain And soon the whole house has gone for a burton Now he lives in the park with a can of strong lager And that’s the end of this sorry saga There she blows! 🤘😀
  23. I tend to DI; if it's a cleanish bass tone I'm looking for straight into the Focusrite/laptop, or if I'm using the synth or wah tones I'll take a clean feed plus the fx feed and put it into 2 channels... This one was just clean Wal DIed into focusrite, with freebie VST Valve Exciter overdrive, a touch of freebie surf EQ VST and Red VST compression, mixed into Ableton:
