  1. That would make this the registration thread.
  2. There's parallel threads all over the place. We could roll them all under one giant NewGearDay thread but that wouldn't be much fun. How about "This year's 1st purchase of gear I don't really need"?
  3. What about a dep for Mr Homebody? 1 gig a month is hardly enough to keep it tight.
  4. What were you meant to do with the "recovery code" sent by text? ( I mean aside from delete it, what was the scammer wanting?) This sort of thing hasn't happened here yet so I am still trying to understand it. Before AI broke out I got a very convincing sounding incredibly posh English Asian lady leaving me a voice mail that my credit card was being run up. I imagine she got a few to "press 1 now".
  5. I once heard a band play everything funky. It worked for a night. Bob Marley to the Beatles, everything funkified. Full commitment required.
  6. The Precision Bass was a game changer. Then bassists wanted to change the game back to have cake and eat cake by nixing the frets. Best just pick up a fretless and play it.
  7. Kala ubass with black rubber strings gets amazingly low and thumpy so long as there's a good preamp for the piezo. Give a thwack and you got something of a slap sound as well.
  8. Never heard of anyone ordering up a super long scale fretless bass guitar to play with DB strings and DB fingerings. I don't think the ergonomics would be at all good. Try DB in your lap on the couch and I think you will get the idea out of your head. I play both DB and FB with custom fingerings born of being self taught. FB is easy enough to use regular BG fingerings if you want to get jiggy wid it or just keep flying around using your DB fingering. Scale length is easy to adopt. I realised this when I found a 21" ubass fretless to be quite natural to me.
  9. Maybe it was the camera system but I reckon EXAGGERATING dynamics could put your outfit into bigger leagues. Tight as nuns proverbial at more or less one level isn't nearly as exciting as more or less tight plus BIG dynamics. You can lead the way and they will follow. Excited people buy more beverages. I think you would quite like playing less gigs for more money.
  10. ??? They ask for donations for a "flasher" band while the local donkeys are playing, alongside another bucket for the donkeys? Yeah, nah, just pay me what I am worth and leave it out! One bucket for me if it works out I get what I am worth on average. I get that they don't want to ever take a bath on engaging high priced bands. But no, two buckets not happening. You need to talk them off that idea. The average quality of band will go down not up. There is only so much in the pockets of the members for entertainment. Donkey pay will have to go down to pay flash bands. Are you that keen to play there that you can watch 100 quid go to some future hotshots' fee when dollars to donuts most of it would have gone in your bucket? Imagine when there's as much in each after you packed the joint. No hotshot band is going to pack it any more than you just did and they are going to get that bonus. Far cough. They will have to punt the flash band paying for the door and standard gig fees for the joint. If they can draw door paying outsiders the tipping members won't mind paying up front.
  11. Good enough reason to be an early elimination anyway. You could argue you are only completing the instrument of its missing part if you wanted to stay in the comp. Much like putting a bridge on a guitar that you bought last year missing a bridge? Someone upgrading their bow would have to take the elimination on the chin? Bows are very personal things so I would go as far as giving them a complete pass if I was in charge. I guess another question could be does the acquisition fall under GAS or keeping your end up. I don't need any new gear to keep my end up but I could ride my motorbike to rehearsal with a little cab saving a lot of fuel. Good job I already have all the bits and a pass
  12. How about seeing if you can get to the end of January by not browsing pedals? Those look what other shoppers looked at windows need to be banned. Scroll on by!
  13. If you can't get a good sound after it goes through the diggity gizmo maybe you need to play about with the diggity gizmo some more.
  14. My fretless mysteriously broke a string so I had to play the whole show on DB. Some of the trombone players probably noticed but nobody said anything.
  15. Sez you. Two of every bass? Get outta town!
  16. I dunno. It's definitely got sTyLe. May it grow on you.
  17. Afaik Peavey only support the stuff they made, if that.
  18. Less jazz improv in my world once I realized the name of the tune is usually in the chorus. So it goes like so: Next tune is... Blind panic. 1. Remember chorus. 2.3. Remember going back into to verse. 4. Go.
  19. I may be missing feet. You wouldn't want my new cab to go around with no shoes would you?
  20. So long as you don't raise them so high that the strings strike them you should be fine. It is going to sound more meaty but I figure that's what you want.
  21. I have already collected everything to build a rehearsal cab aside from paint. I think I shall give myself a pass. Not buying any more ampy gadgets is the goal. Not buying any more basses should be no problem at all.
  22. Nothing on my radar. In. Exceptions for anything DIY built?
  23. Your sketch is a good start but a little bit too basic. It appears identical to my 1518 port grill interface jobbies. The tube comes through the baffle from inside the cab. Last I measured it had a 4" internal diameter but OP can confirm. The inside is less important than the outside measure of the tube. The ring trim adds just a little to the port as it mostly sits around the port tube to provide a clean look to the grill. It needs to finish the last 1/8" of collar with the same ID as the tube and the remaining ID of the collar that is doing the grabbing of the tube has to be the same as the OD of the tube, or ever so slightly less for fitting and glueing.
