1. USA G&L L2500 34" Scale 21 Frets Figured Hard Rock Maple Neck Ebony Lined Fretless Fingerboard 2x George Fullerton Magnetic Field Humbuckers G&L Tri-Tone active/passive electronics, 3-way mini-toggle pickup selector, series/parallel mini-toggle, preamp control mini-toggle (off/on/on with high end EQ boost) Swamp Ash Body Chrome Hardware Transparent Forest Green Finish Ultra Lite G&L tuning pegs G&L saddlelock Bridge with through body stringing Neck Width at Nut 44.5mm Moulded G&L Branded Hardshell Case The USA model uses higher quality materials, resulting in a much lighter, more resonant bass than the Indonesian Tribute series. Leo Fenders final say on the bass guitar. I was expecting it to be a lot heavier but I'd guess 9lbs but don't have the means to weigh it. Reason I'm selling is that I need 24 frets instead of the 20/21 fret stretch found on most basses - I have guitarists hands. A shame as its fantastically versatile - Motown, Rock, Jazz, Metal, Funk, Country, RnB does it all. Never seen Green and Ebony on a G&L (Incredible Hulk )and the US models are getting quite hard to come by in the UK. This bass is professionally setup with new roundwound strings and I can't see a mark on it - looks as new. You can use roundwounds with minimal scratching on an ebony and slap if thats your thing. The bass does anything from Jazz to Musicman to Precision tones through my Genz Benz 750. The fretless Precision tone can be set to passive with a vintage tone to die for, especially with the clarity of the Ebony and the extra boom from the humbuckers. I've not had an issue with the B string as I string through the body preferring the higher tension. Theres also plenty of access to the higher frets of the neck for the jazz guys, but for those of us who aren't its quite easy to whipe out that fretless mwah and keep the depth and rumble. And heres the link to the original thread with some pictures: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=77896&hl=l2500 I'm looking £695 which is roughly double the price for a tribute L2500 new and this is in mint condition, so a good bargain I think. Worth at least £850 this condition second hand. I will consider all trades offers as well.
2. Ahh gotta love the EB3 style . I wish we had some more Hoyer examples on here, tempted to collect them when I'm older and have more funds! Saw one go straight away here in Cardiff, semi acoustic guitar just went within a week. You probably have to try b4 you buy though as not many ppl have heard of them. Rare gems.
3.
Collection absolutely no problem if the time comes. Will be within couple of days.
Sounds great! Just say when, still available.
4. The sunburst is the best finish possible
5. The Legend of the Black Rose - Thin Lizzy's Phil Lynott
6.
For those that have asked, hopefully a picture will follow this? Mods, if this picture breaks any rules, apologies, just trying to clarify for a couple of members. Please remove if not allowed.
Hey Karl, looks close enough for me!
7. I think ebony fretless precision is possibly the best tone out there. Get the jazz pickup in the bridge just in case though, balls to cosmetics. Possibly get a five string and you'll have all bases covered, although the learning curve for me is a lil steep - you'll need the lines or you'll get lost.
8.
Hopefully not Sunburst, for the sake of The Bank of WoT...
But but but.....I like sunburst , I like the jazz with block inlays just need to change the pickguard n add the shiny things....
9. I've tried both and i'm going to back G&L, finally found a P bass sounds with enough umph to cut through and stay nicely within the mix - perfect combination. Fretless Precision tone is probably my fave, but its gotta be active i'm afraid, adds definition without the loss of vintage character. G&L has other options of course I'm just happy with this one for now and I like the look and feel of it. Its a USA version cos i'm a snob. Plus I couldn't miss an oppurtunity for winding my Indonesian girlfriend up
10. Bought a USA G&L L2500 from Tony, extremely quick delivery and in mint condition. Brilliant price and very quick response to his PM's would love to do a deal again. Cheers Tony
11. Does it have the rickebacker truss rod cover?
12. Photo of the electronics added, can you see the Gibson 001?? Managed to do it via a webcam as I'm unable to get a camera, can do a few more upon request I guess
13. Can I see a pic of your custom shop?? That finish is pretty hard to find (above) its really nice!
14. Bargain indeed! Heard a lot of good things about the Peavey Cirrus - loved these basses since I saw Verdine White playing one. Cracking finish even the back looks fantastic.
15. I think I'd loathe a 36", a Rickenbacker gave me a hard time
16. Beautiful, calling Happy Jack!!!
17. Sounds awesome if your a jazzman! If you can get it headless, all the better - I love those shuker singlecuts.
18.
I guess if I had to design a bass with ultra versatility in mind, I would probably go for a 5 strings, P/J pickup configuration, active with passive mod switch. That said, is there any style of music that hasn't been played with a precision or a jazz? I think we - bass players - are the only ones who can hear a major difference in sound between basses, even a precision and a jazz. I think the difference is more obvious for guitars between, say, a telecaster and a 335 than between basses. My point is, you could use pretty much any bass for any style of music, and get away with it if you *play* the right way.
This is very true, doesn't explain why i'm such a fussy tart when I pick them though
19.
PM'D and bumpo for a good bloke.
Thanks for the bump! I'll give it another n just wait n see. Please dont pm me if your not intending to collect.
20. Hey Oggy, Cort make fantastic basses - I'd swear by em, began on them (A4 fretless) and would still use them at a professional level (especially an A5). However I've always taken a huge hit! I paid £800 for my Cort A6 (one of the high end models) but only just managed to sell it for £350 and it was in mint condition. They have a far superior spec to other basses within the price range, they just don't have the renown yet. Its like a secret among bass players how good they are. Incredible build, playability and electronics - they look pretty great as well for the comfortable shape. Not only this but I reckon the market is slow at the moment due to the xmas credit card bills - reason for ultra low prices etc. If I were you I'd keep hold of it for a couple o months and try again then. They're getting rarer, so I'd just keep asking for the £300 you want. I bet in the future they'll be quite sought after.... Cheers Oli
21.
I think an old gibson ebo or eb3 would be ideal for reggae, they have the deepest sound i've ever heard on the neck pickup, They are very light too.
Well I have one if your interested? Didn't wanna sell it but I'm only allowed one bass - just put some fresh TI flats on it so it has one hell of a thump! Better than an EBO because of more options and a bridge humbucker. I might send it home because the market is very slow for now. That Fender 5 looks awesome!! How is the neck?? Thats the only complaint i've heard about the new Fender ones. The Stu Hamm in black n tort looks brilliant, I've only spotted an MIM on basschat in the year n a half i've been a member. A P5 must cover pretty much everything, although I reckon i'd be more of a jazz guy (if it had the s1 switch). I'd love to see the shuker, I think his prices are extremely reasonable. If I sold my current gear I'd probably go to him for a J/MM jazz...in green n ebony again! I reckon the G&L is bright in the photos but will appear darker in person, just as long as its not a really tacky teal I don't mind. Ebonys my favourite board and greens the favourite colour, i dont tend to see it too often.
22. I like the one in your avatar, the steinberger/streamline/nobby meidl/v4 style small bodied basses with graphite neck sound superb. I can see myself playing one of them when I have the funds, although it would have to be five string though for cover song purposes. Anything unusual really catches my eye vigiers, kubickis, bongos (the big al is fantastic)etc just because they stand out lookswise, but I have real trouble selling them on. I guess thats another point towards fender - playable good in the mix and holds the (reasonable) price. I'm not sure passive models cut through enough for me though, I don't like being in the background. I think bass should be as loud as the guitar always...
23.
These are awesome, really full sounding and with a character all of their own. http://www.thebassgallery.com/product_deta...e=Bass%20Guitar ped
love the matching headstock, very glam rock. I think the 5 string sei's look pretty damn versatile too!
24.
Since adding the Roland Vbass system inside my Vigier, I really have the best of both worlds! Most of the time I bypass it and play clean, but I can switch in amazing Jazz bass, P bass, Stingray and more sounds, and even polyphonic synths. It rules. Couldn't be happier! I have always liked the sound of G&L basses, definitely underrated and not too common either! ped
Tried Vmaxblues' old Arpege, the tone will stick in my head forever. Dunno if it was graphite or what but I got butterflies - real driving rock punch.
