1. Took the words out of my mouth I would also like to know about these as I'm considering buying the 200 watt version. Would it need to be played through a bass cab for both guitar and bass (with the Orange guitar head)? ALSO is 200 watts of bass going to be enough for a club gig?
2. I really like the tort, much much more interesting. I also prefer the ric sound with flats fretless is just a bonus. I'm gonna be too slow on the buzzer to get this.
3. Wow the maple top pickups are very snazzy
4. So so so cool!
5. WITHDRAWN! Haven't thought it through properly.
6. Ach! You've made me worried now . I'm not planning on splitting the rig unless it doesn't go by the end of the year. Apologies to those interested! Forgot to add that in thread
7. See New Thread: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=106177
8. Haha, I love this story! I sold a guitar of mine, regretted it and bought another several times the price. We need a slap. If this were rosewood I reckon I'd easily put myself in the red. bump for a great offer!
9. I wish this was around when I started, I took two months to pick my first bass - in this case it would have been a day. Taking all the best characteristics of the main three, just needed a rickenbacker headstock! Nice finish
10. I like this bass, first thing I'd do is change the badass to the old chrome one - I had one on a bass previously and it does a wonderful job but being petty 'n all I just wish it wasn't engraved lol.
11.
Based on what? Clearly never played a Prestige.
I have, save yourself some money and buy a Cort A4/5/6, monorails ain't all that foo! (in a non-offensive manner) Its just my opinion, I have yet to play a good one value for money wise. The ATK was too heavy for me but if I were a big bloke maybe not. And yes there is definately something appealing about owning a guitar no one can play but yourself, but theres always that annoying guy that can't play but likes to try n dings it!
12. I heard the only issue with these was the preamp...and thats been changed. A quality bass.
13. Ibanez basses are sh*te, but I find they're guitars are brill if you can get on with the thin neck. I agree with balcro - the sandberg, that one especially! Shoulda been gone long ago.
14. Agreed, thats a really pretty facing, especially the spots at the bottom
15. ...I do have titleist golf clubs ^_^ I've experienced that too! Sterling/Jazz necks seem uncomfortable to me - just a lil cramped is all but I do like Warwick/Spector necks and they're pretty thin but deep. Its always strange how quite a few players gently progress back towards the origins of the instrument itself - whether P bass/Fretless or Double Bass, I've noticed that with guitarists and the blues and bassists with jazz. My favourite music is 70's/80's glam rock - Aerosmith, Van Halen, WASP, Judas Priest etc. my father gave me four tapes when I was...well...four, I wore em out playing with my plastic soldier n it just stuck. They were: Iron Maiden- Piece of Mind WASP- Crimson Idol Thin Lizzy- Legend of the Black Rose Def Lepard's - Hysteria Phil Lynott, Steve Harris and a Scottish Band called 'Big Country' got me into bass, although they aren't my faves anymore. I like Chris Squire and Jack Bruce the most if I narrowed it down although Geezer Butler is my goal - just effective, not massively technical buts sums up 'Bass Player' for me in a band. Dexterity - Iron Maiden (speed), Jack Bruce's Crossroads (improv), Jaco (timing) but I do love a good ole walking bassline! I'm spreading my wings on the musical front just uploaded 10GB of music to my media player, more Jazz DB stuff - getting into it now, I've never listened to Charles Mingus though  I think a new band would help me, nothing serious just for fun! My brain went to sleep with the shoite Indie music my old band kept suggesting, post 2000 Kasabian is the only band I'll collect on CD. Thanks again for the replies! Very helpful!
16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjC6ErK2uPk...feature=related VB-99!
17.
Hi Oli, I'm intrigued , "Roland V-99 which pitch shifts - turning a standard tuned bass to eb by the click of a button. The V-99 also imitates and combines effects including jazz, precision tones etc.", is it a sort of TC-Helicon VoiceLive for Bass? The idea of dropping to a B tuning at the push of a button has got my GAS going again . What did you have masterbuilt? (Who, What (Pic's), Where and how are you finding it?) Oggy
Hi Oggy, Yeah, check it out on youtube - its a £1k though the full package!! I'm not a fan of B strings so it would be ideal for me, it can imitate piano and you can imitate a guitar with your bass played underneath it together. Also has a D-beam (Jimmy Page!) Its pretty mental, I've always had a good experience with Roland too. I bought 1/20 Masterbuilt Charvel Star based on the late 70's models with the Ziggy Stardust-esque bolt graphic, getting it shipped from the US. The guys from Fender paid Grover Jackson and his 4 employees from the Charvel workshop to come back and masterbuild 100 of their old models. Its my one six string weakness, anything 70's,80's glam rock always proves too much. The look is an acquired taste but the tone and playability is second to none! Instant Van Halen, WASP, Ratt, Europe, Motley Crue, Twisted Sister - you name it...the Roland will have to wait a lil longer... http://image1.dhgate.com/upload/200910/20/...56388396261.jpg Genz Benz Rig, Cort A4, Roland VB-99 will be my eventual 'final' setup. I also think the Fender Urge II would be a good buy for us, I felt the short scale coulda done with a little more and the 34" a little less, that said I do really like the tension of a 35" scale - this is going nowhere isn't it? I'll shut up now.
18. Nah I've had it recently, your one o the guys with small hands like me! The way I see it, there not that many different tones to bass - Jazz, Precision, MM, Rickenbacker or Hi-Fi (status). Then you have your 4,5 and 6 strings. Then effects. Then amps. Its best I feel to buy a good amp (£1200 tops) a 24 fret hifi soapbar four string such as the Cort A4 which is extremely well built and comfortable to play and get one of those Roland V-99 which pitch shifts - turning a standard tuned bass to eb by the click of a button. The V-99 also imitates and combines effects including jazz, precision tones etc. Thats my assessment, coming from a guy with the same problem as you...but just spent 1k on a masterbuilt guitar...
19. I don't believe it...I literally spent a grand on ebay last night, would've loved this AND its rosewood fingerboard. Noooooooooooooooo!!!
20. I've heard they're equally as good as the fender custom shop 55, a mate of mine tried both and said there really wasn't a lot in it, just change the pickup. Pretty appauling when you consider the CS was £2000+ new!! Value for money with the '51 used or new. I'll have one some day...
21. ...they're less than that new. A fine bass regardless.
22. Stingray + fingers.
23. This is the same finish as my Cirrus played by a poor ole chap whose in need of setup methinks. Never heard the song before... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGolgkEM2Cs...feature=related
24. AND!! theres bugger all videos of them on youtube - so you gotta go see for yourself
25. Vigier basses have to be near the best in the world, tone and playability wise their up there.
