Well, I bought this a few months back and have'nt really opened it up so to speak, in fact I've only used it with Markass, albeit nice Markbass (TTE 500). Yesterday I had the sheer pleasure of plugging in to a VERY nice Ampeg and what a revelation the T V Jones PUP proved to be, a stunning tone and everything from thumpy Motown to surprisingly Jazz/Ray slap. The whole instrument, being both VERY light and extremely well built, simply sings, it's almost like it really enjoys doing it! Why am I selling? I really don't like the way it looks, to my eye it's like on of those cars in the cover of ZZTop's Eliminator, an uncomfortable and unsuccessful blend of retro and modern. However, I'm now thinking that this could be overcome with either some psychotherapy on my part or a little structural work on the bass, which compared to my FCS '55 Precision just feels too new and pristine. Either way, if you want this bass, jump now before I change my mind about selling it. Chris

FS/FT - 1991 Stingray with Status graphite neck SOLD
Beedster replied to Me And My Bass's topic in Basses For Sale
A grand trade value? With the original and Status neck? Seriously?? Has to be worth more than that. At least stick to your trading guns though, don't sell it that cheap for cash whatever you do!
Why, no logic there at all? Most folks at present are selling for cash as there are a lot of bills to pay this time of year. Trade only means you need to find the owner of a good PBass who also wants a stingray, as opposed to the seller of a good PBass. The latter's a far bigger pond. Best bet, sell the bass in original configuration and the neck separately for a total of £1200 and buy one of the '77s on here at present. C -

I listed some Markbass gear yesterday, it's all sold now but there were around 10 members who PM'd me saying they'd definitely buy one or more ietms, but despite having read the PM's I sent back asking them to confirm, didn't reply. I don't see why there's any onus on the seller to do anything but sell. You can't go into a shop and say 'keep that for me, I'll be back when I feel like it', so why expect to here?

Seems a fair listing to me, he's allowing bidders to make offers so a slightly ambitious starting price is expected

I’ve had a good long rethink about what I need in amplification terms and I’ve decided that Markbass no longer figure. Don't get me wrong, I think the gear is outstanding, it’s just that – somewhat ironically - I’ve found myself investing heavily in lightweight gear at a time at which I suspect that my gigging days are over, and one at which I want to focus my musical energies towards writing and recording. So, despite the gear in question all being relatively recent acquisitions, I am letting it all go, plus a couple of other items also. I’ve listed every item cheap because I’m not going to haggle and am not looking for trades of PX. I’m happy to put any or all items into very secure packaging and post anywhere in the UK but for a number of reasons – including both voltage issues and two recent transactions that have left me feeling rather jaded – I will not send outside of the UK. Please don't ask for trades or overseas postage. There are pics of each in the links but I will add detailed pics as and when I can take them. All gear is in VERY good condition and has been well looked after. First up Mini CMD 121P and the matching New York 121 cab, both in covers. Recent, in fact very recent purchase from Spongebob here http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2698457. I paid £600 which was a bargain, that’s what I’m asking. Postage on top. SOLD Second Markbass AC 101 Acoustic Bass amplifier http://www.markbass....etail.php?id=73, absolutely great for DB and actually not bad for electric (I assume great for acoustic bass also). Also does a fine job with mandolin and guitar. These go for close to a grand when you can find them http://www.gak.co.uk...ss-ac-101/28694. £350 plus postage And last but not least…. Markbass TTE500 in gigbag paired with a Barefaced Compact in a rather fetching vintage outfit. This has been my main gigging rig and is lovely, light as a feather (can carry head in left hand, cab in right and bass on back with utmost of ease). Loud and light with some lovely tones. Bought from Stu (onehappybunny) on here a year or so back for a grand http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1, selling for £800 for the two or £450 each (plus postage). Please, no offers, the above prices are very good. It’s all Italian by the way Chris

Every thrwad on this tired website is eventually OT these days. Used to be a bass forum, now pretty much a bunch of bored folks looking for an argument as far as I can tell? Anyway, back on topic, web is how things are done theses days, no ones making anyone watch her, she's no doubt better than 99% of BC members, and whilst I can play s lot of parts, if I were in stage with JK I'd probably make a balls up of it also.
I wonder whether you are again hankering after a famous 63 RI by any chance !!!
Not quite John but not far off, think of a bass from the year afterwards and you're there (funnily enough whilst looking exactly the same they are different beasts)!
Hey Chris.... Didn't I buy one of these from you back in the day ?? Awesome instrument.... Memo self... I don't need another ;-) GLWTS
Yes, that was 2007! Long time ago eh. It's funny that I fell very much out of love with it quite suddenly, and like yourself was playing in a Chili's band that needed a Modulus Flea more than it needed a Jaco (despite Flea rather mysteriously playing what appears to be a FCS Jaco in the video for 'Tell Me Baby' I've hankered after one ever since, and decided to go for it after selling my DB a while back. Thing is I think I got VERY lucky with the Tokai, which is outstanding, and even I don't need two fretless Jazzes! Just strikes me as more sense to move on the more expensive instrument, especially as my number 1 fretless will always be the Ric (yep, that one John!). Good to hear from you both -
does this one have the Epoxy resin on fingerboard, whereas the Tokai does not? just out of interest, how much difference does this make? (sorry if this is not the right place to ask) cheers, Roman
Yes, and so does the Tokai, although in the case of the Tokai it was not a factory finish but was put on following the defret (which of course makes it a more authentic Jaco tribute that the FCS which has never had any frets!) As to differences over a normal/unfinished rosewood board, it depends on so many factors (including type of strings, action, and playing style, but I'd say it feels slightly harder under the fingers and produces a slightly brighter tone. I also feel it is a little less forgiving in terms of intonation, although I might be imagining this! I assume it also wears less under rounds than will an unfinished board. Both necks are lovely to play, I'd say the neck on the FCS Jaco is quite possibly one of the nicest I've ever played, and this seems to be the consensus elsewhere (e.g., on Talkbass) Chris -
Bought a couple of months ago from Mark at Bass Direct, original ad here. I'm asking what I paid for it. http://bassdirect.co...storius_CS.html I find myself between a rock and a hard place with this bass, I have a lovely Tokai JazzSound that, whilst it is not as good as this bass, does the job well enough for me (that bass is also listed for sale here http://basschat.co.u...er-report-pups/). So, I'm torn between emotional links to the CS bass and pragmatic links to the Tokai. On that basis I thought I'd list both and see what develops. I'll entertain trade offers on this bass as there is a specific bass I'd be happy to take in trade/PX but which I can't openly ask for on the forum! Chris

Hello Mr T Weighs in at around 8.5 lbs on the bathroom scales, which is a tad lighter than the FCS Jaco. Neck is 40mm wide and 21 mm deep (centre line) at the nut, which is about a mm deeper than the FCS. This feels more C and the Jaco more D. Having played both this afternoon I have to say that I like each bass equally, but prefer the SD PUPs to those on the FCS, the back PUP especially is outstanding. Chris
Do like! I tried this at a Bass Bash when it was Billy Apple's and loved it. If one of mine sells I may be onto this. Out of interest, do you have the the white pickguard for it Beedster?
Hello mate, Billy did PM me about the pickguard but I forget what he said, I'll chase it up Cheers Chris
