1.
I'll borrow your crystal ball if you don't mind.
Let me know when you need it, it's pretty reliable OK, point taken Billy, and apologies to the mods for the above, but I do suspect that the very least that should have been done was perhaps a PM to the members whose posts were deleted saying thanks for your diligence, apologies for the deletes and we're looking into it. I don't think any comment I read suggested sour grapes, or at least I didn't read them that way, just a few folks pointing out that a bass with the same serial number was listed for sale elsewhere, and the O/P editing his posts at a pretty high rate in response. C
 2.
It has to be put in to context though Chris. Until someone is proven to be dishonest we have to show the same courtesy as we do with any other sale thread. If posts are made that may affect the sale for the forum member we will delete them. Fear not, the mod team will be discussing this further.
. No Gary, it was very very poor judgement given the hard evidence presented by several members at the time, evidence that was deleted by mods leaving the impression that the seller was straight up
 3.
The final post on that Wal FS thread said Posted 01 December 2014 - 08:56 .,,sorry but this guy needs to give a better explanation of his actions or be chucked out of BassChat in my view
As do the mods who kept deleting the posts clearly stating the above at the time Clarky. Someone could have been badly ripped off as the 'seller' maintained he owned the bass way after was obvious to anyone with any sense that he didn't
 4.
What made it even worse was the fact the bass originally sold for something like £1,500 and was advertised on here for £3,500 before they'd even paid for it!
Yep
 5.
I think those of us who followed that for sale advert (and then posted amusing comments which were subsequently removed LOL) all thought the same...
Yep, skeptical posts from honest members who smelled a rat were removed, whilst the interests of the dishonest member were apparently protected....
 6.
I find it hard to believe that Fender are still unaware of the Limelight basses. The fact that they seem to have done nothing about it would seem to indicate that they can live with this (very minor) level of threat to their brand. Imitation is, after all, the most sincere form of flattery.
Fender appear generally happy with these things unless you try to sell the instruments direct to or in the USA, in which case their lawyers will write to you
 7.
But in April of this year I played the ONLY bass that has ever screamed "I'm yours to me" I literally had nightmares about the price though. £6K for a 1966 Fender P!! Is it worth that?! No, not to me however within the month that P had sold, someone thought it was worth the £6K. This particular bass has been owned by some on here and is ABSOLUTELY flawless minus a few insignificant dings. My P has more dings than the 66. The difference is the 66's neck was utter perfection. It was comfortable and just homely to me! So imagine my delight when I'm told I can get the same feeling from a modern day replica for only £750. I don't care if it has the Fender logo or not. I just want a P bass that has my perfect neck without having to not eat for a few years. There's no harm in that surely?
That's what I hear from a lot of musicians, and not just bass players. Relicing/ageing/distressing is about feel and function as much as about looks. Fender wouldn't do it if there wasn't a massive market for it, and that massive market includes some pretty serious musicians (for example I know a couple of 'pros who play FCS Pino's because it's to all intents a vintage instrument in feel and tone but without the price point and without the risk). Sure, there's an aesthetic/visual thing going on in some cases, but play a light relic and it feels wonderfully old and played in to the musician but looks pretty much new to the casual observer. Fender logos on the headstocks of non-Fender basses? The only people who should be worried about that are Fender.
 8.
The counterfeit ones getting sold will only increase the value of the genuine vintage ones, a real one, is a real one and as the prices of fakes escalates the genuine instruments will rise in comparison.
Or the availability of good copies reduces the number of people looking to buy the real thing, and reduced demand = lower prices for the real thing. I know a few guys - some on here - who've sold their old '60s/70's instruments and are still getting the same feel/vibe/tone and admiring glances playing a faker/snide/relic/whatever which cost a whole lot less, is a whole lot more reliable, induces zero damage/theft anxiety at gigs, and is, despite what people may think, often equally easy to sell on as the real thing if you don't get on with it or need the cash.
 9. Well I'm now tempted to keep this and sell my Yamaha SLB-100. I wonder just how different they'd sound....
 10.
Shame you aren't finishing this project Beedster I was interested when you posted the thread... Sadly, I just don't have time But I do like the idea of this GLWTS Someone please buy this - I want to see it finished! lol
Cheers Marc, if it's still around next summer I might just try to find the time to do it. And probably then sell it
 11. Have a listen to how Bruce Foxton not only plagiarised Macca but did so in a really innovative and creative way in songs that were very un-Beatles. Jaco on the other hand plagiarised his own work in song after song but never sounded the same doing so. As Einstein said, the secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources
 12. Link to Kev's bass Phil http://basschat.co.uk/topic/195926-new-pics-1979-fender-precision-frettless-rare-maple-board-final-price-drop/
 13. Hi Phil Buy a bass with said neck and sell the other bits is probably the cheapest bet, I don't think even Warmoth offer it as an option. Fender and Ibanez offered them back in the day (and there is a quite rare recent Fender MIJ RI), but they never really caught on amongst bassists in comparison with rosewood, ebony etc. My old bass is for sale, albeit in a new colour scheme, by kevinjazzbass on this forum. I had the neck refinished by Martin Simms and it is absolutely stunning, as good if not better than new. I know Kev is keen to move it on so I'd suggest that might be your best starting point? The maple FL necks do pop up FS on USA eBay occasionally but you have to keep in mind that they tend to be preloved in every sense of the phrase, and removing string wear from the finish of a maple board is a very different prospect - and a very different price range - to the same work on a rosewood or ebony board. I don't know exactly what it is, but there is a magic to a maple fretless neck C
 14.
Hello Chris, Yes, it's factory fretless. You can check the serial number, if you want. String spacing is 11/16". Neck Width is 1-3/4" (44.5 mm) at nut 2-13/16" (71.4 mm) at last fret. Strings aren't precariously close to the edge of the board. I can make a picture, if you want. I had this problem with other bass guitars (five string Fenders typically), but not here. Bass is fine. Everything works great. The bass has minor signs of using, as I wrote in description. A few minor scratches on the head and one little on the body on the top side. I think that's normal. It is a 10 year old bass guitar. We can discuss in private communication, if you want. Cheers Some links about 5 string bongo and MM string spacing: http://www.music-man...man-basses.html http://www.music-man...es/bongo-5.html
Many thanks Memory. Whilst I'm extremely tempted, I've done as much reading on the model as I can and have come to the conclusion that I really do need to play one before buying! It goes without saying that there ain't a whole lot of fretless Bongo 5s in bass shops here! I'll give it some thought and see if I can find someone on here who's got one and is close enough to let me have a play. Chris
 15. I'm guessing that as the OP hasn't posted for three months it's all a little academic anyway
 16. I've been looking at this a lot! I'm looking for a 5-string fretless and that really would be just the ticket, I really liked my old Bongo V. I assume it's factory Fretless? Can you let me have string spacings, nut width etc? Any issues with string precariously close to the edge of the board which was s problem with some B5s? Any other issues? Chris
 17.
No more the end than it was when Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, Neil Diamond, Dolly Parton etc filled that Sunday lunchtime slot which is when I understand LR will be on. From the info currently available he is not headlining.
Fair point, although to me there's a certain quality to even those names that is lacking with LR although I have admit I'm struggling to define the quality in question!

 19.
I think Beedster's looking for one of these.
Cheers walbassist, although I need one without frets! Having said this, I have a fretted TRB6 and in many respects they are the ultimate bass, so as has been said above, the buyer won't be disappointed C

 21.
That's just brilliant, turning a real Ric into a Faker. I love it
It'll only add to its value
... as my hands like the spacing of a J but not the dimensions of a J neck, a fiver feels just right.
Exactly my experience.
 22. Climate change scientists assert that some of the most compelling evidence yet provided for global warming is that of the apparently coincidental demise of rappers Ice-T and Vanilla Ice in the mid-1990s. This theory is currently extended by a team from Thames Valley University who aim to identify whether the same global conditions were responsible for the failure of Liverpool-based Alt-Indie groovers The Icicle Works at around the same time. A counter argument is however proposed by the anti-global warming lobby which cites the fact that Aussie rockers Icehouse continue to tour and record as categorical evidence of the need for an alternative theory. They argue that their data suggest that crapness - and not rising sea levels - were the legitimate causal mechanism of the rappers' disappearance. Seal, Fish, The Eels, and Noah and the Whale are said to be anxious for issues around rising sea levels to be resolved at the earliest opportunity, as understandably was Sandy Shaw, whilst a spokesman for A Flock of Seagulls indicated that the band are keeping a keen eye on events. Bono has launched a charity appeal whilst Prince wasn't available for comment but has instructed several legal teams to investigate whether nature or God has infringed his intellectual property rights in any way.
 23. After playing 5ers quite a lot back in the day I went through a phase of only playing certain vintage brands (Ric/MM/Fender) that didn't do 5ers in the models I wanted to be seen on stage with. Now that I've regained some common sense again I find 4ers really restrictive. I've still got two, both Rics, but both would be better with the extra string. I'm tempted to try and covert one of the Rics, which has both a lovely wide neck and fortuitously one of the long headstocks, to a 5er. Look at for that thread!
