1. PS anyone know where the white pickguard got to, would love to install it?
 2. Thanks all, greatly appreciated, you've likely saved me a few quid there Chris
 3. This has now been mine fro about a month and I have only one thing to say, Billy, why did you sell it, it is an absolute stunner, 100% Custom Shop quality, light as a feather and a dream to play. This is going to be my go to gigging bass for a while at least
 4. TI Jazz Flats are OK on through body bridges, La Bella Deep Talkers are not, and the Pyramids are somewhere between the two in terms of tension and stiffness. Having learned my lesson with the La Bellas (and why is it always the most expensive string that breaks), it seems best to ask. Before you ask there is no non-through option on the bass in question Cheers Chris
 5. Makes a difference on some basses and not on others. As has been said above it should be kept in mind that 'difference' does not always mean 'improvement'. Some bridges are an improvement simply because they allow better intonation, alignment or action, others because they link the surfaces better than the original perhaps allowing more sustain (or fewer energy losses), others because they actually do alter the tone. Either way, there's a whole lot of reasons why you'd change a bridge, but I've done it many times and I'd say that tonally there are often as many improvements going from a heavy and expensive bridge like a Badass II to a Fender BBOT as there are the opposite direction. A very good example for me is my 4003, on which the brass Hipshot version bridge to my mind takes something away from the Ric tone and sustain, despite facilitating far better intonation and string alignment. I'm sure the answer to the OP's question is quite simple, you'll never know until you try a certain bridge on a certain bass.
 6. Saw them when I was a student of electronic music in the early 80's. Definitive leaders of the genre, made Kraftwerk look like Jedward
 7.
Edit: I just remembered I also emailed Alex asking for a receipt/invoice for my cab & he's ignored that email too. totally craps,if my cab doesn't really impress me next Saturday he can have the sodding thing back !
I'll have it if you're not happy. I understand the O/P's POV, but I do wish that things were different. I work in a university in which, increasingly, the quality of the education that students receive is considered secondary to the quality of the customer service that students receive, and by customer service I mean the speed of response to emails as opposed to the quality of the response, the 'niceness' of feedback on coursework as opposed to the effectiveness of that feedback etc. In short, in my job increasingly appearances matter more than actuality, style matters more than substance, and it's consistent with so much elsewhere. Does a response to an email matter more than the quality of the product, no, not at all. I have a BF Compact and to be honest it works for me on so many levels that no amount of poor customer service from BF could undermine my happiness with the cab. I also bought a 69er from Alex a while back and it didn't work for me, and I told him so. What was his response "You can have a full refund". How many manufacturers work on that basis, very few (BTW the 69er was a great cab in every respect except for one particular aspect of the way I needed to use it which I hadn't really thought through fully when ordering). Neil, really hope you like the cab mate, but if not, I know how good they are so I'll have it for what you paid for it. C
 8. Now sold, apologies for not replying to PMs Chris
 9. Hi Bazbass, welcome to the forum. Lovely bass that I expect most would agree is underpriced Cheers Chris
 10.
Ignore......
How many of these have each of us owned between us eh Marcus!
 11. Did this to mine a few years back, took months to get the finish off! Check out where it started though.... And after a few months of sandpaper... Great basses and as you say, one to keep
 12. These came with a recent purchase that has since been restored to passive. Can post pics if needs be but they're fully functional and in good cosmetic condition. Circuit is vol/blend/concentric bass/treble. Retro fits into a standard Jazz rout with battery in the same compartment (like J-Retro). Note in the pics below the pots are mounted on a piece of card! 13. Good condition, professionally filed saddle. 14.
I'd complete it Beedster, then do a comparison..... Sell if you must after that, but it'd be nice to see this EUB develop
Thanks Marc, wish I had the time to be honest. Anyway, last call on this or I'll be forced to build it and sell the SLB!
 15.
Isn't the Fender Hot Rod bass a PJ with blocks and that's a USA made model.
There's this in the CS line which is lovely (although this is a custom finish) OK, it's a Reggie Hamilton Sig albeit slightly better built than the MIM, but if you want a PJ-5 by Fender I think this is the only option.
 16.
Of course. Hey it's Fender trying something a little unusual and different not normally seen on a P of J. I don't quite get this "clueless" approach tho. It seems that anything Fender try differently is pretty much ridiculed on this forum. And if they don't try anything different its seen as the same old boring stuff. I get the impression tho that if it had Sadowsky or Lull on the headstock it would be taken quite differently. I think it will be interesting to see some of these models once the NAMM show is up and running and to see what the Custom Shop is doing this year.
I get the impression that rather than think hard about innovation, Fender just adopt a 'change for changes sake' approach. Compare them with EBMM, OK, some challenging designs, but often linked to genuine innovation. As for the Custom Shop, their Prototype series seems to be losing direction quickly, which is a shame.
 17.
OMG they're genuinely clueless! http://www.gak.co.uk...nsparent/109012
There's something decidedly stonewashed about that. I'm with you WoT, I think clueless sums it up.
 18.
That Jazz looks seriously sweet - and a great price to boot! Tempting to sell something now to free up some funds....
Thanks, it's certainly a cracking price, which is in part why I bought it (I also paid £1500), and when i picked it up the seller was pretty clear that he was selling for substantially less than the bass was worth. I doubt you could get anything like this off the shelf from FCS for less than twice what I'm asking, and I imagine the custom order probably took care of another grand or so over that. It's not only a looker, it's a great utility bass, 5-strings, Precision and Jazz PUPs, active and passive circuits, string through or back loaded bridge. I can see why the player in question commissioned it in the specs he did.
 19. Re weight it's coming up on my scales at 8.8 lbs. We can give and take a few ounces for bathroom scale error, but either way the scale indicates it ways exactly the same as my 4 string fretless Jazz which is also quite light for a 4 string. Chris PS if i get any more offers for the Yammie I might just put that on eBay and keep the Jazz, I had no idea how popular the 6-ers are!
 20.
Wow Chris, that is lush....
Thanks WB, it is rather lovely I must say
A Yamaha 6 string? I can only assume that the real Beedster has had his account hacked!
I know I know, funnily enough though more people seem to want to buy the 6er than the Fender
Still love that yammy ;-) let me know if it's up for sale and I'd consider!
Case in point!
Wow amazing...I assume 34 scale? Also, are the Nordstrand PUs the standard PJ set they offer? What's the weight?
Yes, 34 scale and Nordstrand PJ set (very nicely voiced and balanced). I'll weigh it later but it's certainly at the light end of the scale for a five
 21. Bit of a monster thread about these at http://www.talkbass.com/threads/fender-reggie-hamilton-bass-club.745252/
 22.
The wood can be used as firewood
Oh dear, that doesn't exactly shout 'expensive quality materials' does it ...
 23.
I mean... seriously, Fender? This looked dated when you did it for Victor Bailey ten years ago. Now it just looks like an anachronism. Honestly, they're losing the plot.
It's awful isn't it, just awful. Looks like a DIY strip and stain job on a not very nice bit of wood originally covered by a damn good solid colour finish. Really think they may finally have lost direction completely?
 24. Hi folks I bought this recently on something of a whim, aiming to sell my TRB-6 to part fund it. Problem is that despite the fact the Yammie has the aesthetic appeal of an 80's Skoda, and on that basis is not an instrument I want to be seen dead with, as a bass it's pretty hard to beat. I've also got £700 tied up in the Yammie and £1500 in this, and I'm guessing that if I can't bring myself to let the Yammie go, this one has to in order to free up more gear tokens. The bass is a 2010 custom order from Fender Custom Shop. The original owner, from whom I bought it, is something of a name in bass terms, and clearly knows what he wants from an instrument. He specified the light nitro finish (incl. matching headstock) and hardware, and had the original Fender PUPs and circuit removed and replaced with Nordstrand units. The upgraded PUPs are extremely powerful, and the circuit lovely. I've found that Fender circuits, even in Custom Shop models, have the habit of being brittle at the top and boomy at the bottom, or at least this was the case with my Custom Classic Jazz and 40th Anniversary Precision - there are no such problems with this circuit. It can be played passive or active via a simple push/pull on the volume pot. Passive tone is pure classic Jazz/Precision, active a little more lively and contemporary, although not as lively as some (in fact I'd describe the active circuit as perhaps more subtle and restrained than some I've played). The bass has a really authoritative tone played either active or passive, especially when the P-PUP is soled. It's currently strung with some pretty played in and heavy rounds which are more like bright flats to the ear which no doubt help. The build quality is up there with the new Yamaha BBs and Sadowsky. The finish is light nitro and is already starting to fade to a nicotine yellow. I no longer describe any instrument as 'immaculate' having encountered a seller a while back with acute OCD who found a hairline crack in the finish of an otherwise immaculate instrument and threw his toys out of the cot. Suffice to say that it's not far off though. Bass weighs in at under 9 pounds, light for a five string. Bass comes with original hard case and candy as well as the certificate of authenticity. I would prefer to meet and hand over in person, ideally collection from Canterbury or Aberystwyth, although I will require payment by Paypal gift ahead of meeting elsewhere such as London (you can use normal Paypal goods payment but will have to cover the fees). Either way the price is fixed at the very reasonable £1500 which is what I paid. No trades thanks, please don't offer. Seller's original pics are below. I'll let the buyer know the identity of the original owner, suffice to say he's one of the UK's prominent pro's.
