1. A stunning bass in every respect, and certainly one of the best basses I've owned (and another step in my re-discovery of Yamaha basses). Pretty much every tone you'd want is on tap from the 3-band active circuit, two humbuckers and piezo, it does everything from Ric clank through 'Ray funk to Motown P-Bass thump to jazzy upright. The neck is fast and lovely to hold, the action perfect, the bass balances beautifully, and the instrument as a whole just oozes class. So why am I selling it? Well I always had this nagging feeling that if you're going to play a five you might as well go the whole hog and get a six, so I am now the proud owner of a TRB5 and a TRB6. I'd like to keep them both and even considered defretting one, or stringing one with flats and one with rounds, but I think the sensible approach is to let one of them go, much as I'd rather not. Original listing at http://basschat.co.u..._fromsearch__1. The bass is in extremely good condition and is everything you'd expect from what is Yamaha's flagship bass (and having owned the BB2024 I can vouch for the fact that this bass is a serious step up from even that). Original Yamaha hard case included. This is a LOT of bass for the money, and having recently been discontinued (a strange decision given their reputation), this bass will only increase in value. No trade offers please.
2.
I have sometimes paid extra, to cover the fee and ensure the seller gets the full amount, and that way be protected.
I do the same
3.
I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that it all have a F on the headstock and hence carry that heritage... and the guys working on them are luthiers to to the stars. It all adds to that warm cosy feeling.
Although the stars in question tend to play non-Fenders on recordings and even on stage (mentioning no names).........
4.
So what alternative is there to a Fender Custom Shop if you want a period correct bass? I know of Limelight but what else is on off short of buying an actual 60s bass?
Depends what you mean by period correct. With a few exceptions Fender basses really haven't evolved much in 50 years and those that have tend to be the less sought after examples. MIJ '62 RIs tend to be a good bet although prices are going up rapidly
5.
My opinion on Fenders, from £300 second hand Mexican models right up to the Custom Shop models, is that you have to try the actual bass you are thinking about buying. There are absolute gems and absolute dogs at every price point.
Yep, I've owned six CS models and numerous recent MIA AV, MIJ etc as well as three pre- CBS and several 60's and 70's Fenders. The variability is huge and indicative of consistently awful QC. Only way to buy a Fender is to play it first. A custom order from CS is to my mind nothing more than a foolish gamble.
6. Fender Jap prices have gone through the roof recently, because as most accept, Jap built basses are extremely good. However Fender Jap's reputation was built on basses equal in quality and aesthetics to their US equivalents but at a much lower price. Fender Jap are good, but they are still Fenders. At the prices they're being sold for these days, there are to my mind far better options, many of which are also made in Japan and the far east but without the cache of the Fender logo.
7. I've had many dealings with Howard over the years and he certainly isn't the sort of guy who'd rip you off. He often did work for virtually cost price, and the level of expertise, as well as support in terms of advice and experience that came along with every repair or build made each even better value. In short I strongly suspect that the current situation is serious and/or unavoidable, and that perhaps it's not really appropriate to keep this type of thread open if it's simply an opportunity for folks to moan and speculate (other threads relating to bass builders have been closed for less after all, mentioning no names). If people are posting here to wish Howard well and a speedy recovery, I'm of course all for it staying open. Look forward to seeing you back on BC soon Doc Chris
8. If you pay a seller and he transfers it his bank account leaving no funds in his paypal account it takes at least five working days for the payment to be returned. As I understand it this can be extended further in certain circumstances for example if you made the original payment directly from your bank account via paypal and not from funds held in your paypal account (ironically Ash this is what had happened to me when I was trying to buy that lovely old slab Precision body you had for sale). The only reason for all of this is to allow Paypal/banks to make shed loads of interest on tens of millions of pounds caught up in transactions at any one point in time of course, but they're businesses and that what businesses do I guess.
9.
It's a shame, love my TRB5PII and i wont let it go. I would love to find a TRB5P
TRB 5Pii is a hell of a bass for sure, how does it differ from the TRB5P?
10. I'll do this for £275 today only or it's going to stay at mine and I'll just have to bloody well learn how to use it! Chris
11. £150 for the cab anyone?
12. Offers before I sell this via eBay? Cheers Chris
13. Head sold, cab still available C
14. PS as above I will post the head at buyer's risk and buyer's expense. It won't be cheap however as it is not light
15. Moving house on Friday so last call for this or I think it's going to stay put. Only trade I would consider is for a Markbass Minimark (the 2x8 version) with some cash my way (only half loud amp I've ever owned that can reasonably go in a rucksack, albeit a pretty large one. Wish I'd never sold my old one but that's the story of my life really) C
16. Undisputed winner of the Beedster "Best Bass on Basschat for Quite a While Award". Lovely.
17. I've owned both the SLB-100 and the SLB-200 and whilst the 200 has a lot going for it, if I had the choice I'd still buy the 100, it's a magnificent instrument, typical of Yamaha at their best, and with a second PUP to support the onboard PUP and circuit (which are designed largely to drive headphones - which they do very well - as opposed to being amplified for live use), probably as good an EUB as you'll get.
18. Hi Simon I have no idea to be honest, and not much time to go searching at the moment. I understand that one of the advantages of this PUP compared to other DB models is that you can, to an extent, tune it to your instrument by rotating it within the hole in the bridge (I'm not saying that you can't similarly fine tune other PUPs just that I haven't been able to do so to any significant degree with any that I've owned to date). I'd imagine on that basis that a decent arco tone will be achieved with some work, although of course the rotation/position of the PUP to get decent arco might be completely different to the rotation/positioning required to get a pleasing pizz. But that's amplifying DBs for ya! I guess the best bet is to try? Cheers Chris
19. This is still here but once I've moved house - which is imminent - I'll likely withdraw it from sale as it was largely the need for funds to pay the costs that I was selling it in the first place. To be honest, the costs have escalated so much that a few hundred quid here and there really makes little difference, and this really is one of the nicest basses I've ever owned
20.
Keep revisiting this thread, stopping myself and then revisiting again . My mate travels a lot as a sparky, let me see if he;s going anywhere near you in the near future. That head is calling me
Ha ha, it's still here but once I've moved house - which is imminent - I'll likely withdraw it from sale as it was largely the need for funds to pay the costs that I was selling it in the first place. 21. Had a few enquiries regarding splitting the rig so will take £475 for the head and £175 for the cab (both are USA built by the way). I would rather not post the head but will do so at buyer's expense and risk. Chris
22. And sold pending the usual
23. Hi Keith, no, never got around to it, like most things DB at the moment! Hope al's well mate Chris
24. Bought from Clarky a while back and not really used. Original thread here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/237556-krivo-magnetic-pickup-sold/ £110 posted by Royal Mail Special Delivery Chris
