1. Nothing completely wrong with playing any instrument in any way you'd like but I would recommend looking into developing what is considered a more 'standard' technique first. If you're keen on being a fingerstyle guitar player then maybe look into incorporating your first, second and ring fingers + thumb into plucking chords, and from there picking individual notes out of chords in repeating patterns to improve your dexterity. One guitar player who astounds me at how good his finger picking work can be is John Mayer. Try and ignore the fact that the guy is a complete douche. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TesSAq6uY34
 2.
I care even less now.
Yeh reading through some of this has reminded me why I don't know and don't care how my amp works, providing it works well and sounds good.
 3. My TC RH750 is still up there with one of the best amps I've heard for its size. I really like the Aguilar TH500 too, paired with the new Berg CN212 sounded just brilliant.
 4. There are plenty of Fender haters about but for me, I'm completely amazed at Leo Fender's achievements. I must admit to not knowing fully about the back history of Fender, especially in the early days and I think his instruments were as much adapted purely through luck as much as ingenuity and clever marketing, but i won't hold it against him. I've played all kinds of bass guitars, nothing stands up to the designs that Fender as a company put in place. Sonically great (for me, and many others) plus they feel perfect under my hands and fingers. I'll be happy playing Leo Fender's instruments for a long time to come.
 5. The annual X Factor thread. I don't like it, hate Simon Cowell, the influence he's had on younger musicians and their perceptions on music. But I also know where the off button is on my TV, which makes things easy dealing with stuff like this.
 6. Only had one experience with him over the phone regarding a question about some TC gear he had in. Couldn't have been more enthusiastic, really helpful, seemed like he wanted to talk about TC stuff forever. Lovely guy, although the store is way too far away from me to drop in at the drop of a hat and I'm yet to meet the man in person.
 7. It really is a good article, truthful and probably accounting for a large percentage of bass players who do make their hobby their vocation.
 8.
My Christ, that is the worst thing I have ever seen.
It's definitely not great. I do wish that Tony Levin would put that bloody stick down.
 9.
No. That was entirely my point but he was on the list. I don't know why i bother at times.
Give some people the benefit of the doubt, we can't all be walking musical encyclopaedias now can we and he's certainly played with a lot of British artists. This place can be terribly uptight at times. I'm struggling to think who I could add to the list. Dave Bronze is excellent! EDIT - yeh, Dave Bronze, Chris Wolstenholme, Colin Greenwood have to go on too.
 10.
Pretty sure I've posted my rig before but not looking this fine with my RD in front '69/'70 SVT / B25B / GS412 / V4 4x12 / 1979 Gibson RD Artist
Total rock rig, I absolutely love it.
 11. I saw one up close in the Gallery and it looked kind of cheap.
 12. I've used active and passive instruments recently, I still prefer passive instruments for the most part and it takes a very special onboard preamp to get me excited about using an active bass. P-Basses and Jazz basses will be my staple instruments for a while to come yet, I love simplicity.
 13.
What? from Synkronized? You got any more info? I'd love to hear those!
I wouldn't have any idea where to get hold of them now, I used to be part of the Zender forum when I was younger and they did the rounds. Can't remember exact details!
 14.
Too sloppy...I think he hits the beats, but just not in the right way. Never feels right... which is not so critical in his proggie arena.
I think a lot of people including me will have to disagree with you on that! Collins is a good drummer and I'm not even a huge fan. If anyone was wondering who was conducting, that's the legend that was producer Arif Mardin.
 15.
I'm confused here. The Mr. X version you mention is stated as being the album version on that vid, and it sounds like the one I know and love from the album. Why wouldn't Stu Zender, who was a full time member for the second album, be playing on the album's title track? Weird. But, I suppose saying that it's amazing how little he actually recorded for the first album. A few sessioners laid most if it down before he got the job I believe, including Andrew Levy from the Brand New Heavies. This is the only version of Space Cowboy I've ever heard. Anyone got a link to the one Stu Zender did play on? Would love to check it out.
That's not right, Stuart Zender played on every single track of Emergency On Planet Earth, Return Of The Space Cowboy and Travelling Without Moving apart from two songs, 'When You Gonna Learn' (Andrew Levy, Stuart wasn't even in the band at this stage as far as I'm aware) and the album version of Space Cowboy. He did play on the single version and every single song on the rest of the first three albums, no session players were brought in. The latter track wasn't played on by Zender because he had taken time out of the studio to sort out his breakup with his then girlfriend. When he came back it turned out that Jay had gotten someone else to fill in for him. Zender was not too pleased. Zender even played on most of the tracks for the 4th album Synkronized but when he was finally given the boot/left the band his tracks were erased or shelved and Nick Fyffe was brought into replace him. Some of the tracks were available a long time ago to listen to Zender's original recordings.
 16. I'm the same when it comes to enjoying Gospel music but without the religious part. Ironically it's usually the big hip hop guys that like to use the best of modern gospel players on their music. Mike Elizondo on bass for example on a lot of Dr. Dre's stuff, also his producer for a while. Take a listen to Erykah Badu and (already noted) D'Angelo. And if you don't get round to listening to any of that then definitely listen to Robert Glasper, who I can't recommend enough http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-0JZlrk4xA
 17. I'd guess it's the most iconic bass ever in relation to a specific person or band. They sound amazing, completely limited in what they can do but I've not heard any other instrument do what a Hofner can. Unique is the word. I love them.
 18.
Mine was '...played it in front of me, like a man..'. I just love that gallus, non-relevant comment!
That was pretty backhanded. If nothing else the response is definitely an exercise in bad PR.
 19. I think the people down the hall know who you are.
 20.
Having recently dealt with US customs and immigration there is no way on earth I would be risking anything with them. "Welcome to the USA", indeed
That would be going into the U.S as opposed to leaving the U.S? I'll admit customs are tough at the U.S border but the times I've travelled out of the U.S back to the U.K and encountered literally no one at the customs desk has been 100% of the time. To the OP, I wouldn't necessarily advise doing it but honestly I think the likelihood of you getting away with it is quite high, at least at the airport that I regularly use (Manchester).
 21.
this bass playing from mr X is just amazing.. i still think its Randy HOPE Taylor from Incognito. just sounds so much like him. im prob totally wrong mind.
He's said that it wasn't him, also Jamiroquai have all said that the bloke who played was full of his own self-importance and they didn't like him - RHT has since played with Jamiroquai on Dynamite so I guess it's unlikely.
