1. Hi AJ, One of my sax students might be interested in this. He's been looking for a better student instrument than the Jupiter he's playing on. I'll get back to you shortly. Derrick
2.
What is the difference - I took it the A stood for active - but I thought all 100% graphite Steinbergers were active it was the wooden bodied XP and XM that were passive? Cheers BB
The tone controls on the XL2 are passive. Volume, volume, tone. The battery is for the pickups. The XL2A has the active circuitry.
3.
Apologies for the awful pics but: Behold, The Armada! : Ampeg b500dr, Fender Rt1000 Tuner, Ampeg BSE 410HLF x2 Marshall VBA400, Marshall VBC412 x2 Phil Jones Briefcase Trace Elliot 1524 2x15 cab
I love how you've got to get your rig outdoors to put it all together
4. Maybe he was drunk when he thought up the filler job as well.
5.
Hi All, Are there any opinions/experiences out there putting a graphite neck on a Stingray? Does this enhance the sound and stability of the instrument or is this largely a cosmetic upgrade? Ideally I'd like to hear the difference between the original and graphite neck, so if anyone knows where I might find some audio clips that would be perfect.
There's a SR5 with Status-Graphite neck on The Gallery's website right now. Worth a look if you want to compare side by side. 6. Somebody, somewhere is dying to have this and will pay your asking price for it....you just need to find 'em and best of luck with that. Something tells me that might be a collector in Japan. I'd consider putting it on Ebay (International) at the original asking price if only to raise awareness of it, and to direct potential buyers to make you an offer here or TB if it doesn't sell. I bought a 4 string XL2 in December and I'm so happy with it - an absolute monster bass. However it's not my everyday bass and I haven't taken it on a jazz gig yet If anyone told me and my 'Berg to F off they'd get the same back.
7. Well that bass is obviously not working out for you and cannot possibly match your exacting needs. I'll have it! We've had this conversation before haven't we...... Have a bump
8. Top Geezer and a man of his word! Hope you're enjoying the EBS Octabass
9. I find myself lusting after an electro acoustic fretless and I've been looking out for a Godin or a Status Electro. Is there anyone here who has knowledge of them both and could help me make up my mind? I'm after a bass that can do a good upright bass tone for big band playing, but could also do a good meaty baby-bass tone for salsa and latin music. Any suggestions/opinions gratefully received. Cheers!
10.
Hi, Would you be interested in a trade for an EBS Blacklabel Octabass? (Model with switches: I got it in a trade recently and am already covered for octaving needs...) All the best, Sean
Thanks for the offer Sean but I already have a octaver pedal. Thanks anyway. Derrick
11. EBS Unichorus for sale. It choruses, pulse modulates and flanges! L (mono)and R outputs. As new condition but no box and a removeable strip of velcro on the bottom. Very reliable with no issues at all. SOLD to ShaunB - thanks a lot mate!
12. By now an old favourite: GenzBenz Shuttle 6.0. Lovely amp. Ultralight but powerful. I just wish the fan noise was as small as the form factor. No problem for gigging but you wouldn't want to do a recording with this head in the room.
13. Bought my EBS Wah One. Honest guy and top class bloke. Buy/sell/trade with confidence!
14.
I'll have them if they're still available.
Sorry mate, lost out to JLP by a minute! Thanks anyway. Derrick
15. Hi, I put these TI Flats on my Fender Precision to try them out but immediately took them off as I couldn't get on with the string guage. Played on for all of 10 minutes. The product code is JF344 an the guages are: .043, .056, .070, .100. Still has all the packaging. Currently £32 at stringbusters. £20 posted. Cheers
16. Hi, I have a Mesa combo cover which I assume might be for a Walkabout combo. It's black tough canvas with vinyl backing (not padded) with Mesa logo on the front and slot in the top for the combo's handle. Measures 45cmx42cmx50cmH. Brand new condition save for the odd bit of dust. £20 posted. Cheers
17.
Thanks squire. I didn't want to post the clips here and step on lapolpora's toes, as he said he was gonna do some... but maybe he's been busy, probably got better things to do than make silly noises! But here's what I've done: <snip>.
Phagor, Your input is useful to me too - and I've already got one! You're right I have been busy. Things have taken over the last few days and I'm sorry I haven't been able to follow up on this. So please post away and don't worry about treading on my feet. Cheers, Derrick
18. You know what I mean...Sex Machine...Papa's Got a Brand New Bag.... What reverb will get me close to the sound of the bass on these records? I have an EBS Dynaverb but it's a bit too classy. The bass is a Fender P with flatwounds. Any suggestions from cheap to boutique welcome but a true bypass pedal preferred. Cheers and Happy Christmas
19. Back to the top!
20.
Any second impressions to share with us yet?
Sorry, had a couple of gigs and a new scoring job come in which I've had to give attention to so have had to put the pedal aside. I'll try and get some thoughts up and/or mp3s over to you at the weekend.
21.
Yes, it is a green Sovtek. Owned from new. Still boxed with all it's packing. Un-gigged too. But the paint is flaking off (must've been a really dodgy paint job).I have done a bit of research on the wah-one. Is the power socket really problematic?
Never had a problem with mine. I've had it on my pedal board powered by a T-Rex Fuel Tank. It's been rock solid. I don't know what the issues are but the power connection feels secure.
22.
Anything else interesting to you? I have a few spares left. Sovtek Big Muff (the original) Korg Pitchblack+ tuner And maybe a few other things (Maxon AF-9, Boss LS-2, errr....).
Thanks for the offer but I think I'm sorted fro pedals for now. I have a Pitch Black already (great piece of kit), and an B:assmaster which sorts out my dirt(y) needs. Is that a green Sovtek? Might be tempted if so.
23. OK. Super Synth - quick first impressions..... Funk players in particular are going to love this. It changes the way I play slightly. Every preset lends me to Bootsy Collins/Ohio Players inspired lines. I find myself playing sparsely with less "ghost" notes to let the synth tones speak. The presets are well though out with squelchy fat tones through to brassy Vangelis type tones. The tone control gives you different variations on the main preset and easy to home in on a sound with this and the cutoff knob. Lots of variation here without resorting to tweaking the software. Only problem is you want these controls to hand and not down by your feet! I could see myself using this a lot in the right band and not turning it on at all in others. Some sounds make you think "Oh yes!" immediately while other are a bit "Hmmnn..." - depends what you're after really. Tracking is very good (no problems at all on a 4 string) and it's very responsive to dynamics. The sound really develops as you play harder. Some presets however don't sustain well along with the natural decay of the bass and you can hear the synth cutting out on long sustains. I suppose you might be able to improve this in the software. Sound quality is very, very good and doesn't suck all the bass frequencies out of your sound. The Octaver is very good too. Clean and EBS-like. Tracks well down to low G/Fsharp before it starts to cut out. The pedal seemed very expensive until I realised it doubled up as an Octaver - and I just bought an MXR last week - doh! What I haven't been able to find yet is your classic Faithless a-like dance/house tone. Will fiddle some more but I'm not downloading the software yet. You have to register it to do that and I don't want to register until I'm 100% sure of it. Getting that way though! I've never tried any other synth pedal so I cannot really compare, but the MB sounds seem more useable to me than the Boss/EH/Octavius/Deep Impact video demos I've heard. Recording sound clips - not a problem. Posting them might take some working out as I've never done that before. I'll try doing something later this evening.
24.
That is sick as f***, I would love a lefty Berger.
Sick as F*** it is indeed. It has got the sound to die for. It's amazing. Impossible to make it sound bad. Every micro turn of the tone knob does something incredible. The neck is fast, narrow and so comfortable in my hand. I can even get my thumb over the top for the E string - all the way up to the 22nd fret! Can't stop grinning when I play it. It's so much more than what I expected or remembered from the first time I owned one in the 80s when I was young and dumb. Even my wife who is normally "why do you need another bass?" gets it and is wowed by it. My six year old son loves it. He has claimed it as his own and wants me to teach him.
