  1. I find it less useful on bass, where you use essentially the same patterns moving up, down or sideways depending on mode and root note. More important for wind and keyboard players who don’t have our advantage.
  2. I never said or implied an equivalency…simply moving on with the OP’s original points. Mains upset a lot of country fans by (a) being hyper-critical of American policies while on a European tour and (b) talking about how stupid and unworthy of her talents and political views country fans were. Although probably not triggering for most liberals, many conservatives were not impressed, nor were country fans. preparing to hear the usual misrepresentations and droll comments regarding both groups mentioned above…
  3. Had a bl who wouldn’t do Clapton songs. I’m currently playing with a really good start-up country band. We are doing Chicks songs. I really don’t agree with some of the statements Natalie Mains has made, but am very happy to enjoy and play their music. My line is almost no line. I strongly dislike the term “problematic” because of its place in the current cancel culture. I also really liked “Usual Suspects” and don’t think I can unlike it just because KS is “problematic “.
  4. Another vote for RCF. I have the 15’s and they blow my newer JBL’s out of the water.
  5. Sounds good, but that .136 B is heavier than I want
  6. Okay, hear me out… I have just started working with a very good country/Americana band. My MPV. 5 with Elixers does okay, and is a real joy to play, but does not offer the tonal range of the Yamaha. However, for this group, rounds sound really out of character. Ideally, I want a traditional flatwound sound, but with a bright edge. I like a lighter B string….125 seems to be about right. I always appreciated the ability of a good active bass to make adjustments on the fly. Suggestion…given the parameters above?
  7. I wouldn’t pay that for a big stadium show. Last time the Eagles were in the U.K. I think tickets started around £200, and that’s a nope for me. I did, however fly to Wichita Kansas to see Beach Boys and Alabama in a smaller venue (great seats) with friends and family. Biggest complaint about big show is not being able to hear the music due to all the bad, loud singing from the crowd…
  8. Nope…it’s a friendly game…
  9. That’s me…bass-lead-amp. But I am a unrepentant old fart…
  10. 50 years in…with 3 basses Pedulla MPV 5 with nickel elixer light gauge strings..p/j configuration…my main bass for everything…an extension of my body. Yamaha NE2…Swiss army bass with way more tonal variations than I’ll ever need. Spector Spectracore 5 with Flats…Super fretless tone and so easy to move around on.
  11. I’m now exclusively on 5’s. I love being able to play across the neck.
  12. Okay….but I have a hard time with any establishment that assumes I’m a thief and acts accordingly.
  13. Saw them early on with Linda R and Pure Prairie League. Randy was from my part of the country in Western Nebraska.
  14. I see what you did there, but the difference is acoustic, not digital….more like an upright piano vs a grand
  15. I’m not in the same camp as the “ I can get any sound I want out of any bass with my pedals” guy. I’ve never found an emulated sound that matches what I can get out of any of my basses plugged straight into the amp. You can get close, but it’s like an electronic keyboard vs a grand piano….close but not the same. YMMV
  16. Kind of subjective to me. I played Fenders for decades, but none now. My Yamaha is close enough to a FSO for most, the fretless is Spector shaped, and the MPV is the only outlier…but I don’t care….:)
  17. Should read 3 different basses..
  18. Well said! I currently use : different basses, and they all have unique looks and personalities..but they all work beautifully in every context I use them in.
  19. I get that…have a friend that plays one of those single cutaway coffee table sixers. It’s ugly to me but I wouldn’t let that stop me from playing it.
  20. I wish I could make this a survey question… I personally don’t care much about what my gear looks like. I’ve made out like a bandit rescuing other player’s abandoned and slightly beat up gear. I also would probably not consider playing a jazz, folk, or country gig on upright knowing I can produce an acceptable tone on my fretless Spector. I do, however care a great deal about how my kit works and sounds. Not being judgmental, just curious…where does the collective land on this subject?
