  1. I would choose the MIM Jazz as a starting point. If you don’t like it, it would be easy to unload and you will get a good feel for life playing a Jazz.
  2. The oldest equipment I have is a leather guitar strap I bought sometime in 1976. Like many here, I sold all my stuff off in the 90’s. I have had my 1974 LoPrinzi acoustic since 1998.
  3. Ironical, isn't it.....:) Maybe I should start a Britannia-a group...we could play stuff that is vaguely British, or English, or, heck maybe even Irish...oh and French cause 1066....
  4. As with most things to do with instruments, it’s mainly up to personal preference. I’ve got big beefy hands, and prefer the feel of most jazz necks. I know from experience though, that I also can quickly become used to playing on a different profile. Fivers are, for me, even more a matter of getting the right feel. Play lots of them before you buy.
  5. After reading this article, I am no closer too seeing this as a legitimate genre. You just cannot lump Johnnie Cash, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and the Lumineers in the same grouping.
  6. Thanks! I think there are wiring directions on the back of the amp…will check tomorrow
  7. The XLR has three leads…
  8. Ok…then assume I have a male xlr for the output on the TE amp…please walk me through the proper connection for the Speakon.
  9. Okay, but, to me, “Country” is most pre-1970’s artists of the genre, and ending with George Strait and Scotty McCreary. Bluegrass is different…Bill Monroe, Ricky Skaggs, Allison Krause…Folk is way different…Dylan, Kingston Trio, Weavers… Most new country is really pop music. The best definition of country music I’ve heard is “three chords and the truth.”
  10. Been using phone jacks for many years, but….since I have a TE head and Genz Benz cabs, how about XLR to speakon?
  11. Agree with this….
  12. As someone who was born and raised in rural America, lived in both the Midwest and Texas, I am at a bit of a loss to discover what the heck "Americana" really is. Best definition I have seen is "a fusion of all American forms of music", which could also be rock, country, blues, etc. Is this just another attempt to subdivide music into yet another category that doesn't really exist? Is it that some folks are just ashamed of real country music, or real bluegrass music? Who inspires Americana? Alison Krause? B.B King? Carlos Santana? George Strait? I would love to be educated, please......
  13. Just picked up the 2 1x12 cabs and gave both one and both a test drive at home…amazing tone and responds to the flexibility of the Trace amp superbly. No gig for 3weeks but cannot wait to use them! And it’s a one-handed lift….anybody need a TE 4x10?
  14. That same Spectracore is currently on offer….
  15. Well done you! And…there’s no such thing as a small gig.
  16. It can be a real challenge to get good gear for a limited amount of cash. When I started gigging again after a long hiatus, I had a Hartke Kickback…120 watts through 1 12. Good practice and rehearsal amp. Next was a great deal on my Trace rig..smt 11 head..400 watts, a 4x10, and a 15”. Cabs are pretty shabby but sound good…just really heavy. Now I’m moving to 2 1x12 Genz Benz cabs, . If those work out, I’ll sell the 410 cab, refurb the 15, and should be ready for anything. Trace rig was £250, 2 GB cabs are 280….you don’t need to spend a ton to get good gear. I am going to spend some cash getting a tune up on the Trace head, though.
  17. Even though I almost exclusively use pj basses, I completely agree with you about the weak bridge pickup sound…best it does is color the neck pickup tone
  18. I've got a Shure system...the one that sits on your amp. It is very reliable....
  19. Trying to keep cables from underfoot at a small venue is a challenge. I'm considering using a wireless rig just to keep from tripping on my patch chord.....
  20. It really is a very comfortable bass to gig. I just need to move it on to fund an EUB.
