  1. Thanks. I'll give that a bash as well Not quite. It sounds "bigger" rather than louder. Like boosting everything on the eq
  2. Here's the video I got it from. He's an odd chap but one of my favourite bass youtubers
  3. I tried a little wiring alteration on my SRMS805 this morning. This boosts the preamp output by 6db. It's sounding a bit less thin without having to boost everything to max. I found out about it through a video by Low End Lobster on YouTube, he did it to his EHB1005 (same preamp) All I did was unplug the wires from the far right block and move them to the next one on the left. The photo is after the change.
  4. @CiciBass keep doing exactly what you're doing. Some of us appreciate seeing and hearing something different. There's a heap of people making videos of traditional playing styles with no effects for those who want that.
  5. Are there any good replacements? I'm guessing there's nothing that will just drop straight in
  6. I have a question for anyone playing modern metal/post metal on an Ibanez with Bartolini pickups. What are you using as a dirt pedal to get a really, clanky metal tone? I'm not quite getting there with a Darkglass B3K overdrive, Cali76 compressor and Two Notes Le Bass preamp. It's just not getting that really sharp bite to cut through the guitars. It worked with my P bass ok but not my SRMS805
  7. Would the people not interested in a sub group scroll past this thread and therefore not click on the poll which will give a misleadingly positive result?
  8. Balls deep - Disorder
  9. Top tip for jam nights. Learn 12 bar blues and when someone says "who's going to start us off" you get in there with a 12 bar blues.
  10. As others have said, get along to jam sessions. I went to one, it was mostly pop/blues/jazz but I got chatting to one of the drummers there and we're now in a stoner metal band together.
  11. I've been listening to Brutus a lot since seeing them last week at Arctangent Festival. Great band and I've never seen anyone drum and sing at the same time while doing both to such a high level. A seriously talented lady
  12. My wife wants to wear our bands t shirt at a gig and I'm unsure whether even that is acceptable. We will absolutely not wear our t shirt while playing. Me and the drummer have turned up with the same unicorn death metal t shirt purely by coincidence once though.
  13. I did an engineering degree through OU. It was f*****g hard
  14. Thanks. That's something we've talked about. She's also be offered an apprenticeship as a veterinary nurse so maybe that plus session work on the side might be an option. I think I'd be happiest to see her in a stable job and enjoying music with her band, I may be biased but I think they have potential as an alt rock originals group with some real talent. But it's all her choice as long as she can pay for a nice care home for me!
  15. This morning it's Birds In A Row. A French post hardcore band who I really enjoyed at Arctangent festival last week. The bassist is a bit of a beast, mostly playing a rhythm guitar part. The music just has a ton of energy.
  16. I started out with an Ibanez SR300 and after going through Fender, Epiphone, Squier, Peavey and Musicman, I'm back at Ibanez again. This time it's an SRMS805. I'm really liking it. It plays beautifully and I'm getting some evil distorted sounds out of it.
  17. I wanna be your daaaawwwwggggg - The Stooges
  18. Opened but unused 5 string set. Nickel wound long scale EXL165-5 .135 .105 .085 .065 .045 I opened them up, realised I need extra long scale and put them back in the pack. Never fitted or used
  19. Unfortunately it's often near impossible to play stuff originally in C on a 5 string tuned to B because you're playing off that open low string so much.
  20. I know what you mean. I've not bothered with much in C because my 4 string won't go that low and my 5 won't go that high.
  21. If the Wurzels had shown up and played there, I'm fairly certain they'd have had a huge crowd singing along and moshing! Wurzels used to be regulars at my mates local pub, a couple of the Stranglers were regulars as well. All top blokes
  22. Our local butcher makes bloody lovely faggots and they're dirt cheap. A couple faggots with some well seasoned mash and a good gravy with some fried onions is my favourite winter warmer.
  23. Are non standard tunings common outside of hard Rock and metal? I'm constantly changing tunings anywhere between drop A and E standard for metal covers but if I try anything like soul, pop or reggae it is almost always in E standard tuning.
  24. Do the Scottish drink?
  25. Paranoid by Sabbath is the dead easy song that gets me. It's one of the first songs beginners learn but I can fork it right up
