  1. I've found a whole load more motivation recently. I've always wanted a Spector and bought a Euro 4 LX a couple weeks ago. It feels really good to play and sounds amazing. I've got the Mike Starr tone spot on and can't stop playing Alice In Chains songs.
  2. ⁹I have an audition on Sunday with a band who are heavily influenced by Teenage Fanclub so having a good listen. Great bass tones and the bass, while fairly simple really drives things. I also have a bit of Snooze lined up. They've been described as happy Meshuggah. If you don't know Meshuggah, they're an amazing band but will leave you needing therapy.
  3. She stole my band name for a uni grunge project. I was going to call my next punk band Crooked Snout after our slightly wonky lurcher.
  4. She's currently at Bath Spa Uni on the commercial music course and absolutely loving it. Loads of playing, recording, production as well as a bit of business and all that stuff. She's in five bands now so loads of gigs.
  5. I've been playing all evening and absolutely loving the sounds I'm getting from it. Dirty channel on my Revolt preamp pedal, both pickups on full, and it sounds huge.
  6. It has arrived.
  7. I've just received a Spector Euro I bought from Thorsten. Lovely bloke to deal with. He made the whole thing nice and easy. The bass is just amazing. I'm very happy
  8. I'm a huge QOTSA fan and never knew Josh was in to bikes. That's another hero point then! I've always wanted a Guzzi as well. Not had one yet but a V100 Mandello could be next. Josh named my youngest daughter, we saw QOTSA in 2011 while my wife was heavily pregnant (we had seats) and the first song they played was Go With The Flow so she's called Flo. The second song was Regular John so we had an option if it had been a boy.
  9. Agreed. She is definitely prettier than a middle aged bloke.
  10. That will be me from 3am tomorrow until it arrives.
  11. Only one more day until I'll be in possession of my new (used) Euro 4 LX. A particularly lovely looking red one from Eldon Tyrell (top bloke). My P bass may become neglected.
  12. I wanna be your dog - Stooges
  13. Thanks, that's all useful. I'll look up that chord book. If the chord is minor, does that mean the diminished second is a semitone above the root?
  14. Good point. Chromatic passing notes usually fit well.
  15. I've been sent some tracks by a new band, I'm writing bass parts for them and it's quite different to my previous, riff heavy, Sabbath influenced bands. I know what Im doing with that style and it just comes to me with a couple listens through a track. With this music, It seems I'm following the chord root quite a lot and I'm wanting to add some interest but it's not going well. The odd octave and fifth is going in here and there and some rhythmic variations but everything else I try just seems to sound worse than following the chord roots. The music is metal, but a very different style to my usual. It's post hardcore, borderline metalcore with rhythm and lead guitars (heavily overdriven) plus synth, drums and vocals. Can anyone give me some tips? Here's an example of something similar And a bit of this
  16. Of course it failed, babies don't have the strength to cope with Thunderbird neck dive. If you'd used a Jazz bass back then, at the end of this month you'd be stood at the side of the stage watching them headline Glastonbury.
  17. It broke floor tiles. I nicked the keys for Starbug
  18. That is a great photo. Keep encouraging
  19. In some cases, it's definitely not in the blood. My daughter is an awesome bassist. If I try really hard, I could almost be described as someone who can wear a bass. It's great watching your kids gigging. My daughter is always out gigging now. It's a very proud parent moment seeing a venue packed with people there to be entertained by your offspring and them having the best time absolutely smashing it. Keep encouraging them and supporting them. Here's XFR Jr playing at The Cheese And Grain in Frome with her band, Butane Skies. You can tell they're used to a smaller stage
  20. I've always found bands to be friendly towards fans and more than happy to have a chat if they have time. I was at a gig last year to see Mondo Generator, a band fronted by ex Queens Of The Stone Age bassist Nick Oliveri and he was really cool, just hanging out chatting to fans right from when the doors opened until he went on stage. While the local support act were on, he was stood next to me head banging away. That's how it should be done. Craig Charles does things a different way. Grumpy b'stard. I was only trying to tell him he'd dropped his wallet.
  21. Wave after wave - Cult Of Luna I love this song. It has to be the most perfect example of post metal, it just keeps on building up.
  22. Inside - Stiltskin How did I remember that one hit wonder from 35 years ago?
  23. Combustion - Meshuggah
  24. Global Warming - Gojira
  25. 50 million year trip - Kyuss
