  1. I like that. Tribute to a hugely popular rock band that doesn't play the songs everyone wants to hear.
  2. But can it do metal?
  3. That's a lot of interesting suggestions. The Sandberg California is quite appealing. The precision and stingray pickups are an appealing combo
  4. I keep seeing Metallica tribute bands everywhere, there's hundreds of the buggers and most are probably terrible (even worse that the real thing post Newstead). And it got me thinking, every obvious band has their tribute act, but what's the most obscure tribute you've seen? I once saw a Melvins tribute band which seemed pretty odd. They even had two drummers and were pretty good.
  5. Arse. You're correct. I best rearrange the childcare! We'll you saved me a wasted trip to Brizzle. Thanks
  6. Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs at SWX in Bristol tonight. An excellent live band in a venue with really good sound. This will be the third time I've seen them and I can't wait.
  7. A sports bass! Does that make it faster?
  8. I have a Mexican p bass. Most of the basses I've owned have been from either the America or Asia. I fancy something different
  9. I just don't dig natural finishes.
  10. Something that doesn't sound like my p bass. Not natural finish. Not single cut. No narrower than a modern jazz neck. Lighter than a Peavey T40
  11. Aren't Spector American?
  12. I'm thinking of buying a second bass and thought it would be nice to get something British or at least European. What are the options up to £1500, 4 string & long scale. I'm open to any pickup configuration
  13. If you're a Jeff Matz fan, it's worth looking up his Facebook page. He offers online bass lessons. I was going to book some for my daughter for her birthday.
  14. New Model Army's bassist has a really unique style to get his tone, he uses a pick and picks really close to the bridge.
  15. If you ever get the chance to see them live, do it. They're really entertaining and brilliant performers plus Jeff Matz bass is even better live than on the records
  16. What a bass should sound like in this context I guess but completely wrong for lots of other music. There is no ideal bass tone for everything.
  17. Bridgeburner by Mutoid Man My left hand just gets tied in knots
  18. If that's serious tone, then I'll go for daft tone. There is no good or bad tone, only the right tone for the song.
  19. Even with decent headphones, some of them are just clatter without notes. Very much like Fieldy from Korn
  20. Youtuber slapping in particular, the sort where you just hear the clatter of strings on frets sounds like a filing cabinet falling down a fire escape
  21. If a band is being used as an attraction to make money, then the band should receive a cut of that profit. Either a fixed fee or a share of the ticket sales. Gigs can be expensive and hard work (especially if you have big amps) and there's a fair bit of boredom between sound check and gig. I've read that some headline acts are now charging support bands to tour with them, I think it was Disturbed charging $12,000 to support them on their US tour.
  22. Hanging tree - Mark Lannegan
  23. The rhythm guitar was played live, lead was on the backing track. That didn't seem right to me
  24. Synth for a bit of atmosphere and maybe some odd apocalyptic noises definitely works in metal
