Not sure yet but probably a Euro 5 LX
-
Longer I think. 5 is 35" the 4 multi is 36" - 34". The 5 multi is 37 - 34
-
All their songs seem to be in C#. The Dimension 4 just has the bonus of the 36" scale on the E string which will give extra tension or allow lighter strings.

The Pulse does sound great in the videos I've seen. I think it would suit me better than the Ethos. The Euro LX is pushing the budget a bit but definitely a possibility. I'm currently trying to decide whether to go 4 string and tune down to C# for the new band or just go 5 string. If I go 5 it'll avoid setup issues but the G string will probably never get used. There's also the multi scale Dimension 4 confusing matters.

Hi everyone. I'm starting to look for a Spector, really wanting that classic Spector sound (Rex Brown, Mike Starr) and a decent quality model. Which would be the models to go for? Is the Rebop any good? There seems to be quite a few for sale but I can't find much info about them. Should I spend the extra for an NS Pulse or Euro LX?

Anyone have the Supergrass article from Bass Player?
SteveXFR replied to umcoo's topic in General Discussion
Caught By The Fuzz was the best song of that Brit rock scene at the time. I'd rate them well above Blur (boring) and Oasis (a bit crap) That Wembley gig was amazing. I'm not a huge Foo Fighters fan but to see them with Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones was very cool plus Dave on drums is always a treat. -

I saw Supergrass open for Foo Fighters at Wembley Stadium many years ago. They were great but the sound sucked. They're all local to me and quite often see one or more of them out at local gigs in town. It's nice to see seriously successful pros out enjoying amateur local bands playing in a pub/park/festival. -
If you want a cheap bass that will do the job without any upgrades or extra spending, why not get a used Ibanez SR300. They're not good for the price, they're just good.

I'm just about ready to buy a nice Spector 5 string and was reminded that previously with 5 strings, I've had a nightmare trying to sell them when ready for a change. Are 5 string basses typically difficult to sell or have I just had the wrong ones? Previous 5's include Ibanez SRMS805 Ibanez SR505 and Sterling Ray35 (very nice budget stingray)

The two worst basses I've owned were a MIM Fender Jazz Squier series (weird one, it was an actual Fender, not a Squier) and my last MIM Precision. Sometimes cheap copies are better than the real thing.

Gary Numan playing a Glastonbury warm up at Cheese & Grain in Frome. The show sold out extremely quickly but its my local venue so I was signed up for presales. I've seen Gary once before as a special guest with Nine Inch Nails and he was extremely good so I'm really looking forward to this one

I'm not sure it's going to work. Their new material is written in drop G. I can't get my 5 string that low without the first seven frets on the bottom string all sounding the same. I think it needs an extra long multiscale and I'm not sure I want to invest £1000+ in a Spector Dimension or Dingwall (cheaper multiscales are a bit shorter) without knowing it'll work out.

Not yet. We'll see how this goes. It's a possibility but I'm not buying a new Spector quite yet.
-
There's been a bit of a development. I was talking to a band a while ago but it all went quiet. Yesterday I heard from them again and they sent over some new material and it's really good. I'm going to give it a good go, write some bass parts and see how it goes.

I may choose to visit the statue at Hellfest in France rather than Stoke on Trent. It does look really good though.

I had a very up and down relationship. When it was good, it was the best feeling. There's nothing like having a room full of people headbanging along to your tunes. Playing to a room with only three old blokes who wanted classic rock, not sludge metal was just depressing. I have looked for bands but the ones playing interesting stuff want someone under 35 (I'm a lot older) and the ones my age seem to all play 80's style metal which just doesn't do it for me at all

Its all good there. I'm actually looking at buying a third one, a Honda CRF250L or for green lane riding

I'm a metal player and jam sessions local to me seem to be jazz or folk so I just don't understand the music at all. I've tried jamming along to songs, I usually get the chord pattern quickly enough but soon get bored. What I loved was playing filthy riffs at ridiculous volume with mates and coming up with cool stuff together. Unfortunately, that's gone now and not going to happen again.

Last January I sold my gear and gave up. This Christmas I bought myself a new bass and tried getting back in to it but just not enjoying playing along to songs, no good at solo noodling and can't find other people to play with. I'm not happy with how I play. I think I've reached the end. Bummer
