  1. Fan frets do look weird but they do actually have a purpose. Super low tunings with decent string tension without resorting to excessively thick strings. I'm not sure they'll be much use outside of metal.
  2. I've not tried one but the sound isn't right for me so even if they feel incredible, I still wouldn't want one. I'd rather a Dingwall Combustion which is considerably cheaper
  3. Single cut Foderas. They are incredibly ugly and don't sound too special but at least they're incredibly expensive.
  4. Lenny Kravitz has a terrible song with no bass and Kid Rock has a song with the guitar solo in the wrong key. Train are just terrible but once decided to re-record a Led Zeppelin album in full note for note. That did not need to be done.
  5. That's quite a claim. I've heard Kid Rock, Lenny Kravitz and Train on planet rock
  6. GCSE music lessons at school put me off learning more. It only covered jazz and classical. Anything else was "not real music". Our music teacher was very old and wouldn't even acknowledge anything modern.
  7. My daughter keeps telling me I need to learn some Muse (not sure I need to) so I'm having a crack at Bliss. It's a cheeky little number, I'll get there
  8. I am quite jealous. I've never seen them
  9. We saw a Tool tribute band called Tool Shed. I was rather sceptical but a mates band was supporting so we went. Tool Shed are awesome, the bassist was absolutely dead on with tone and playing but the drummer was absolutely incredible. That dudes not normal. The guitarist and singers were awesome as well but for me it was all about the rhythm section. I'll definitely see them again.
  10. Monster Truck getting run over by a Toyota Rav 4 really got me in the funny bone. Weezer was made better by it being one of his favourite bands
  11. One I came across recently is KDH and it seems all he does is moan about stuff, mostly Chapman guitars, he really likes to winge about them. A much better one I actually enjoy is Pat Finnerty. He's kind of the anti Beato with his What Makes This Song Stink videos. The hour long video to find the worst Lenny Kravitz song is my particular favourite. Lots of comedy and weird distractions.
  12. Yes but mostly because I played with a drummer who needed many cymbals and toms and a guitarist who had such enormous amounts of distortion he would always end up with feedback problems and have a melt down
  13. The damaged one would be tempting but I think it's £100 over priced.
  14. I regularly look for another Zephyr but they rarely come up for sale
  15. I had a Zephyr. It was a genuinely really nice bass. At least as nice as MIM Fenders that I've owned. Neck through and through body stringing and really decent hardware and really nicely put together and I picked it up for £180. Someone at a jam session offered me £400 so I let him take it but regret letting it go now.
  16. I bought it from Breadbin of this forum and it had a disgusting paint splatter pain job. I stripped it back to bare wood and resprayed it sea foam green and gave it to my daughter who is now far better than me. Next week she'll be playing it in the finals of a battle of the bands competition.
  17. We put a fresh set of DR Neon strings on the 4 string earlier and it's really annoying, it sounds better than my Ibanez that cost 10 times as much. It plays really nicely as well
  18. I've started playing Root by Deftones as an exercise. It seems to be helping. Obviously I'm playing it without a pick but this was just a convenient video
  19. L Great bass but I think it needs to be considerably lighter rather than slightly
  20. My first bass was a Peavey International 4. My daughter has it now and it's still great, it sounds and plays really nice. We recently bought her an International 5 in perfect condition and it cost £150. Why are these basses so cheap? Are they seen as bottom spec budget or is there some reason no one wants them?
  21. I have booked some lessons. A local bassist I've got to know recently has started up lessons.
  22. Symptom of the Universe One of the heaviest songs ever recorded and Geezers fills were tastefully awesome.
  23. I do hit the strings pretty hard. Maybe that's my problem. Geezer Butler manages to hit hard but he's a hell of a lot more talented than I am
  24. Jaco Pistorious. Does nothing for me, all very fancy playing but I just don't get it. Fieldy All strings clattering on frets and no notes. Billy Sheehan All very fancy but most of the time I can't help thinking something more simple would serve the song better
