Yes it takes a bit of practise. Start simple and build upwards. One trick when singing is to simplify the line your playing, kinda fudge it a bit. To think I once sang lead vocal on 'Forget Me Knots' in a three piece? Can barely even play the bass line anymore...The exuberance of youth can achieve pretty much anything.

Well, the PG looks period correct, smooth headed tuners too, pretty difficult to fake, other than that and what with the decal the whole ensemble could be anything. If it plays well and feels good for the right price its probably great....For the wrong price its going to be a mill stone..

Totally agree with you, IWYB is a stellar piece of bass writing and playing. I think the problem is he didnt really play on that much that is known, as saxophone was his primary instrument which he played on the Steve McQueen film, Bullit among others.

I understand where your coming from tho I beg to differ... cite "Darling Dear" and a whole tone of additional Motown lines as one collective example. Simple can actually get in the way of the musicality of the piece. The best line will support the melodic shape of the tune and can be either busy or simple.

He's also proof positive that you dont need a million squid 10 banger to play Jazz. He plays that ole P bass on everything and sounds very good. Top reader too.

Haha .. How many times have I heard that from the punters. On the other hand I did a festival years back and you could have sworn I was playing an Alembic with fresh rounds. I was actually playing an old P bass with very dead Chromes. FOH will do with us as they see fit.,

God knows what I heard then cause the clip defo sounded like a live band on a big stage singing the GG tune and it sounded nothing like Hello. More radio trickery it seems.

Neil Young. Loved the way the band slowed Glastonbury down to a crawl. Long breaks between tunes. Lazy out of tune soloes, and the band all shuffling around on a piece of stage the size of an iPhone. Id forgotten how good some of his early stuff actually was.

Old has been funkster here. What I find odd about it all is how uncool everybody is. It seems like everyones going .."me me me". Even the bands have to call out to the fans the obligatory "Glastonbury"!! every other song. Anyway currently watching Free at the IOW circa 1970, crowd sat on the ground in quiet contemplation....Lovely.

A really worrying fact I found out recently is people with the condition have relatively speaking 35% less energy than people without. In other words it takes that much out of you to get thru the day with it. I can kinda believe it. If I have a coffee it rears up.. or Im stressed off she goes.. Its relentless.

Got it too and I can remember the exact moment it kicked in. Funny thing is my hearing has actually become more sensitive...I can hear stuff no one else can, the downside being tho I simply cannot risk playing live anymore even with the purple industrial strength earplugs. Even quietly practising my P bass will set it off....

On the general issue of age etc. My ears are so bad now I struggle to deal with any loud noise even with ear plugs. And more generally just the whole thing of gigging, the effort needed, the hanging about... even the playing to a degree. I suppose for some of us the whole thing just looses what it had when we were younger. Pity.

Takes me back to summer season holiday camp gigs in the 80's.

I think the only way to really combat it as old person is to completely change your daily behaviour and habits.. which isn't easy. ie for eg, Park as far from the shops as possible and carry heavy shopping. Get out of bed and literally yomp around the house like a crazy person swinging arms and stuff... yes its all crazy but I think it works....In a nutshell. Move more.

I can testity that doing a festival on a stinky hot day with a bad chest infection is/was madness. Vid of me looking like a drowned rat I was sweating so much....But I did it for the band (said the hero)..haha. Shuffled off the stage, jumped straight in the car - home. But yes it definitely pays to keep fit and positive when there's a line of gigs on the horizon.
