1.
Thanks for the reply Graham. I dropped EBS Technical a direct email after reading on a few forums that they are incredibly helpful, and they were! (It might be worth dropping them a line yourself. They've been known to supply parts and advice on amps that aren't even in warranty!) They basically said the Fafner 2 has a very low failure rate and is no doubt in need of a small repair to a broken connection on the pc board. I could probably afford to spend £50-£100 repairing it and it would still stand me a lot less than I could get for it on the second hand market. So I think Iam just going to bite the bullet and take the risk!
Who has said it is a £50-£100 repair? If it is EBS I'd be amazed if they have the capability to diagnose an issue from your description, most repairers won't even give you a 'guesstimate' for a repair quote until the amp is on the bench. If the seller thinks it is a simple fix then I'd suggest (were it me it'd be 'insist') that they get it fixed then I'd give them the market value of a fully working used amp. Taking an amp that needs unknown repair is only something that I'd do if it was very cheap. Used these appear on BC for £600 - £700 so I'd be wanting to get the amp for significantly less than that.
2. I have a pair of Sterlings (both x1 pup, one with piezo option) and they have taken over from my Warwicks as my go to bass. Superb QC for a mass produced bass and I've yet to hear of a duffer.
3. When you say 'Original pickups, guts and finish', does that mean the whole bass is original?
4.
Barefaced FR800 800w retails at £1000 great full range speaker, will handle kick easily, sounds superb, weights pants all Should be very high on your list....
Is that a pair or each?
5. Also in the NE with a Jake (just the P) with a series/parallel switch, if anyone wants to try.
6. I'm ignorant of the 'history' of this bass, the seller or the shop involved but what is the problem with the neck? Is this an early 80's bass with a headstock break that was repaired in the past or is it a truss rod issue... or something else? I have to say that I've owned a couple of NT Streamer fretless basses and none of them had the top end zing/mwah that you get from say a BO bass; a bit like the fact that you get a different slap tone from a NT/BO bass. I'm not saying 'W' fretless basses are naff or you can't get a good fretless sound from them but some folks have a particular 'tone' in their head when they play fretless and maybe you'll never achieve the zingy mwah you want from a Streamer!
7. Battery connector replacement is 99p and 10 min DIY job... neck is other issue!
8. This might seem obvious but if Argos don't accept items larger than 1.2m then surely you can't select the C&C service when you put in package dimensions... it seems preposterous that they can simply dispose of an item; send it back/refuse to accept but to bin it!
9.
Id say £1500. Because that's how much the one that just went up on BassDirect is you're referring to
If you can get that for a Vintage 'W' you're doing well.
10. Are these meant to be 'different' to the original series of Lightwave i.e. built by someone other than Lightwave? Other than the Hexfx they look the same! I've owned one and whilst I found the tone was pretty much up there or better than any trad mag pup system, the bodies were light and ergonomic, the necks however were decidedly average. Not bad in any way but my other basses had better necks.
11. More than most... not as many as some who shall not be named.
12.
Why not trade a Warwick for a Stingray? They're equivalent market prices, but very very different experiences playing and sound wise.
Glad you got sorted On the matter of W / MM trade... I suppose the values depend on which model W folks are thinking about. There's a multitude of W basses but only one model of Stingray!
13.

I've had two of those Ltd Ed but sadly sold both due to their weight... I assume the birds eye maple always clocks in heavy!
14. Looks to read 500w which will be the 500w mono... unless it is the 250 mono. LOL
15.
A hamer 5? Dont know them
Ooooops that is the 4 but the 5 is identical
16. VFM find a Hamer 5 with the 2tek bridge.
17.
I'm not even sure if this guy is joking.
Are you kidding... oh no, this could get confusing!
18.
Any one this bass japan direct on ebay? Thanx
???
19.
yeah, that's the one! No volute - so I guess its the one with the replaceable truss rod. Looks like an all wenge neck. It's 50 quid postage though... good grief. I reckon the best thing about warwicks is that they have so many moving parts, but the worst thing about warwicks... is that they have so many moving parts... You can fine tune EVERYTHING, but it means all those little grub screws get calcified and locked-down, then you spend 6 hrs on the web trying to find replacements. Those are my concerns with these things.
The only grub screws that seize are the ones on the saddles... which are no better/worse than any other bass and they all have them. The nut screws don't seize and I've never heard of the bridge adjustment bolts seizing. Don't imagine that the truss rod has to be kapput, there are loads without issue; the fact it doesn't have a volute doesn't mean that the truss rod can/will come out by tipping it upside down.
20. I'm fairly sure I know the answer but do these 'classic' series basses lack contouring/chamfering on the back waist and forearm?
21. Do you have an accurate weight?
22.
Well of course the 21012L is fitted with a 12" driver...
The latest flavour appears to be modular 1x12 or 2x12.
23. The idea of a single P in a Streamer body actually appeals to me but I'd not spend $6000 on ANY bolt-on neck Warwick (actually I'd not spend that on any bass). I can't see the justification for that price tag over any regular CV bass; CS or not it will surely be made with the same components from the same machinery in the same factories.
