Having had a stack topple over, this is one reason why I never would stack vertically.
That's where personal circumstances will dictate if a vertical stack is needed/viable. I don't play bouncy or unsteady stages nor are there loons who might topple my gear and to me the dispersion 'is' important... hence I stack and am happier with it that way than lower/squat/horizontal.

Music Man (USA) stockists - I want to try a Sterling
warwickhunt replied to fretmeister's topic in Bass Guitars
Ritter R8, 33.3" scale, super slim neck profile, tobacco burst, solid silver oval fret markers. https://ritter-instr..._info.php?i=695 The body is cedar and it has an ebony board. Jens says it sounds like a really nice old jazz bass - just weighs half as much. . .
Could do with a few more bolts in the neck to balance it better. -
Is that because we are both wimps In fact, I've got a bass weighing just 5.7lbs arriving tomorrow!
Weight, S/P/SC switching, slimmer neck and down-sized body... what's not to prefer about the Sterling. 5.7 is pretty light, what is it? -
Neck is definitely different on a Sterling vs a Ray. Very loosely it's a bit like comparing a P to a J but there are lots of variations (from both brands). Personally I much prefer the Sterling but I'm definitely in a minority here!
Nope I prefer the Sterling to the Ray as well ! -
I used to stack my DB112 cabs on their side which heightened the drivers/tweeter and though it wouldn't withstand someone falling into it, there was sufficient stability that it never budged under normal use. I presently have a pair of TC RS210 cabs and they are even taller/narrower (I stack them vertically aligned as opposed to on their sides) and again this certainly wouldn't stay upright if some loon fell into them but I can't think of a situation where I'd have anyone bimbling around that might knock them. I have to agree with RhysP... what can you get for £400 used; likely as not a better combo.

It was in a loft it must be real... NOT!

Thought it was the 10's in the 2nd sample but mildly surprised that I reversed the 15-12... need to go back and listen again. However, pleased that I stuck with my own thoughts/views based upon my experience and didn't go with 'perceptions' of what a 10/12/15 should sound like.
-
I'm part basing mine upon my previous listening to the 15 and 12 TKS cabs, that and the second one sounds most different.
-
15/10/12... I appear to be the only one!

-
Can't find confirmation though there appears to be rumours... like this one!
-
A pair of used TC RS cabs (2x10 2x12 or mixed) the vertical stack does all that your 8x10 does at a fraction of the weight and carrying them (individually) is a doddle due to the slim profile. Alternatively TKS cabs.

SHOW ME THE MONEY (now, or afterwards?)
warwickhunt replied to lollington's topic in General Discussion
Good point. How would this be built into the contract? We could find a dep if one member become sick, what what if something happened which meant that the entire band couldn't play? Does anyone have a clause which says that the band would pay £XXX to the organisers in such event?
Finding a dep is perfectly acceptable. As for building a clause into a contract; I'd have thought that whatever you (the band) would expect in compensation from a client (pub/promoter/bride etc), that would have to be acceptable if roles were reversed. -

Contracts are a two way thing and using them means that you need to be aware that if you (a band) decide (or have to due to unforeseen circumstances) bail on a gig or booking, would the other party be entitled to remuneration/compensation? Just playing 'Devil's Advocate'! -
good god why is it when you post a woman playing bass there must an agenda behind it. i posted it purely on her playing. I'm sure there are many better bassists out there.. i just happen to like her playing.
Why bother posting a vid of 'anyone' playing along note for note with a backing track? My point was that there are thousands (and thousands) of bassists on youtube who are as good/better and the forum would be clogged if we posted vids of all of them; if it was something different/unusual/perfectly executed/inspiring... then I could understand but aside from the fact that she is a very rehearsed and accomplished player she is no better than others. I initially queried as to why pick that particular bassist?
-
Hmmmm. I'm sure there will be dozens of equally good bassists on youtube playing this and more technical pieces with as much/more feeling but you chose this because?
not original A NOTE ON THE USE OF ROSEWOOD AND EBONY, SERIAL NUMBER LOCATION, THE USE OF BLACK EPOXY ON PRE-AMPS, BODY CONTOURING & BRIDGES. Although Rosewood was used for fretless Basses, fretted Rosewood was not introduced as an option until very late 1979 (or very early 1980). At the same time fretless Basses changed from Rosewood to Ebony. with the lack of dot markers on the board it looks like this maybe a fretless that has been fretted?
He's aware of the non-originality of the fingerboard/frets but he's not letting on. "From what I can gather the original fretboard was replaced. As the end of the neck is signed LF and dated for Nov 76." (ebay message) However it could explain why a previous winner of this bass on ebay never completed the sale.
