1. Looks like whats called Honeyburst, love it, best of the bursts IMHO. Think the white pickguard looks great, but whatever floats your boat, tort and burst is always nice.
2. Finally snagged a dream maple '88 'Ray for stoopidly nice price. Mutes, crazy nice figuring on neck, 2EQ, 4 bolt neck plate...mmmmmm
3. I'll see you that, and I'll raise you an '88 with Classic-style neck figuring, hard case, mutes, 2EQ for <£680...oh and I'm also a Scot who doesny lie...
4. Greetings and salutations, following me managing to obtain my dream 2EQ maple 'Ray (check out the EBMM Porn Thread sometime soon folks), have to let my SUB go, as can't justify having the two. The SUB was bought as a cost effective way to try out the 2EQ MM sound (had career change issues at the time), and it is superb, everything folks say and more. Original sale thread is here --->SUB original thread, will put up my own pics soon. No issues at all with the bass, plays great, no crackles, or fretbuzz. Couple of very minor dings, one just behind 5th fret, another on top bout of body, usual minor wear around top of headstock. Fitted with black scratchplate, which makes all the difference looks wise IMHO, comes with original diamond plate scratchplate also if that floats yer boat. In the spirit of the forum, looking for what the bass owes me, which is £340 picked up in person in gigbag, or £370 plus postage in hard case - this is slightly battered but OK for shipping. Bass is situated in south Glasgow, handy for M77/M8 motorway. I work in Ayrshire, and will be travelling down to Merseyside on business next week, if anyone there interested. Have a couple of successful sales as buyer on here (including SUB) plus 100% feedback on well-known auction site (ID: mattm-1314)
5.
Nice score on that '88.
Aye, very pleased, there's an 80s one on SC just now at £1000-ish so delighted. Think the seller on eBay was a wee bit sparse on pics and description, hence the lack of competitive bids, not that I'm complaining Watch the EBMM porn thread later this week when it arrives....
6. Last two I seen on the 'Bay went for £400ish, including a particularly nice white one. Incidentally mine (Red SUB thread is literally just up for sale as I've managed to snag a decent '88 2EQ 'Ray from the 'Bay for £675 --->Black 88 'Bay 'Ray. SUB is up for £340 picked up in gig bag, or £370 in hard case plus shipping to BC ers. Oh, and I'm based in Glasgow (nae pressure McNach.... )

8. Seconded on the SUB, bought mine as way to get a flavour of a 2EQ 'Ray, and loving it. The pros and cons are : SUB - USA built, 2EQ, slab body, diamondplate pickguard (you can replace with standard 'Ray if a showstopper), textured paint finish, painted gloss finish neck. Bit of a debate as to whether its bang on the money electrics wise as its series wired as opposed to a 'Ray which is parallel wired, however sounds great to my ears, as good if not meatier than my genuine 3EQ 'Ray. £350-400 ish. Check this new one out on the 'Bay in a very rare white -----> eBay white SUB Sterling Ray 34 - Far East build, USA QC. Painted headstock, 3EQ, satin neck (?). Some guys love 'em, few questions over build? £579-ish new Sterling Clasic Ray - As above except 2EQ (not same build/components as USA 2EQ?), narrow SLO/Sterling neck - showstopper for some, me included. Nice colour choices USA Stingray - from about £650-800ish. USA build, choice on colour, 2EQ/3EQ if you're prepared to wait for the right one Your choice.....
9. If you're after passive Precision tone, plus versatility Beedster, ever considered the Big Al? Check out 1:59-ish on this clip from everyones fave bald headed bass freak : CHRISDABASS has a sunburst/maple on just now for about the same wonga as you're looking for?
10.
Are Sub and Genuine Ray necks inter-changeable ......???
Have both a 'Ray and a SUB, can confirm neck profiles are identical, only difference is that my 'Ray has an oiled, satin finish, the SUBs are gloss, painted. Difference in finish doesn't worry me, as I'm not actively gigging just now and don't have sweaty hands, however some folk who suffer from the latter don't like glossy necks. Have a bump anyways from a fellow SUB owner, great bass at a great price considering case also included.
11.
The black 79 £1895 has sold now on Ebay but not sure on the price as it must of been a best offer or sold through the shop. Anyone here going to own up to it then?
Interestingly, now back on at a lower £1795.... PreEB Black 'Ray Still a wee bit rich for my tastes, £1500-ish would be on the money, damn me thinking that natural one with the teardrop case would run its natural course.....
12. In no particular order, and a few in common with other posters : 80s Status S2 - having been luck enough to have owned a Steinberger XL2, would love to try the UK equivalent. A wee play on a Streamline wouldn't go amiss either EBMM Big Al - love the design, and would love a fiddle with all the possible configs. As a dedicated 2EQ 'Ray 'set it and forget it' kinda guy, may not be my thing howevs.... pre EB MM 'Ray - ideally late 70's natural/ash with original preamp. Promise not to play "Good Times" guv, honest..... Kubicki Ex Factor - great looking bass, and another great innovative 80s thang (see Steiny and Status also). EBMM Bongo - the horned lavvy seat, would like to try out and see if it would outdo the Big Al, albeit this is a blendy active doofer, as opposed to active/passive selector thingy.
13. I want your love - Chic. Well if youve dipped your toe in the 2 EQ MusicMan waters, it'd be rude not to do some 'Nard. When I get the flats on, it'll be awesome...
14. Even better value when you check this out: Pre EB Black 'Ray Wee bitty on the rich side for my tastes, and if you're gonna go pre-EB, has to be a natural ash/maple really.
15.
So, I bought this...... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...IT#ht_500wt_997 And it has totally renewed my love for Stingrays. It is everything my 1978 'ray was in terms of build quality, feel, and tone, but the extra PUP makes SOOOOOOO much difference; I simply cannot see why anyone would choose a H over an HH? The roasted maple neck and ebony board are a dream to play also.
Good experience with the sale Beedster? Had an eye on a very nice mint green Classic 'Ray from the same guy, however was a bit wary of dealing with a seller from US West Coast. You got a great deal with that price anyway, the roasted necks are very appealing on the old visual front, marketing and technical claims aside. Would love to see one in an all maple set-up, although ebony is a great combo with the body, none more black....well except this maybe ---> StealthRay
16. There was another pre-EB natural ash one in much better nick went for a rapid £1400 BIN job last week, after being put on at £1000 starting with the seller saying he'd let it run (!). £1250 is a decent shout for a pre-EB though, maybe a wee bit rich for one heavily mojo'd. On the subject of pre-EB's, I got kinda tumescent at this one.... A.N.Other pre_EB ...before spotting the seller had "updated the electronics". A 3EQ in a pre-EB, sheesh......
17.
Although, if you change the pickguard on the SUB for a proper Ray one, it'll look the bomb.
Indeed it does... Never played one of the SBMMs, I went for my SUB purely because it was an extremely cost-effective (as in < £400) way of getting a feel for a 2EQ 'Ray. I understand the neck profile thing to which Dave refers, for me I love 'Ray necks, can't cope with thinner ones, however one mans pork scratchings are another's deep fried toenail clippings as they say . The new SBMM Classics are a great way to get the SLO thinner neck profile with 2EQ, however if you wanna 'Ray, with associated chunky neck, then my £500 would be saved/upgraded to a secondhand US EBMM one at £600-650 ish. Great bang for the buck IMHO.
18.
Seeing is believing, here. this was my last ever thread that caused all that "Lloyd Cole"[sub] (& the Commotion for those of you who don't remember who they were)[/sub]
Insane moderation, maybe its a blessing I haven't been 'approved'. Re: Ol' Lloyd and the boys, massive fan of old, love Lawrence Donegan who was a tasteful, effective player (toted a Jazz as I recall) and My Bag is one of my fave pop basslines. He then went on to become a not too shabby journo and writer, 'Four Iron in the Soul' is a great read. Lloyd had good taste in musicians, played with the late, great Bob Quine when he went solo later on.
19. In my non-bass playing alter ego, I'm a manufacturing site manager, one thing you learn about quality is you don't inspect it in, you build it in. If BP's relying on S&Ts inspections to pick up manufacturing faults or order errors, its a tad worrying. They should be picked up prior to despatch, we, for example, would photograph and log all outgoing export orders in case of any issues upon arrival. Having said that, the quality of both my MMs is excellent. I also had issues on the MM forum, joined recently and posted what I thought were fairly positive comments on a thread about SUBs having just got one, my posts were 'submitted for moderation' and have, to this date, never been seen. Very, very frustrating as I love 'Rays, but have found the forum to be a closed shop, even to a self-confessed fanboy such as myself. GW - did you not get banned from the MM forum for stepping away from the party line?
20. If you're looking for a below 450 option, can heartily recommend a SUB. I'm a recent convert, having been wanting to have a quick dabble with a 2EQ Ray. Think there's still one on the sales forum from a Scottish seller for about the 400 Mark? This 'Ray is gorgeous, and had I not been looking for cash or maple for my old Steiny (now returned home to the US), may well have been tempted by a trade a wee while back. Nice to see it return to it's original owner, don't let it go again Macko, a good Ray is worth it's weight in gold
21. Aye, the one thing that struck me about the 2EQ is if you do the thing with the bass control and adjust the treble to taste, you can actually get a tone that works for picking, fingerstyle and slap without too much fannying about. Worth its weight in gold. There's a lot to be said for a simple "right" tone, some people would say "one trick pony", I'd say genius.
22. Speaking as someone whos owned a 3EQ 2009 'Ray for a while before dipping my toe in the 2EQ SUB waters this week, I honestly think the quality and depth of the tone from the SUB is brilliant in comparison. Its difficult to compare exactly as my 2009 'Ray has flats on, the SUB has roundwounds. I would say (and it has been done to death admittedly) that the 2EQ has a unique depth to it, the 3EQ is more adjustable. Even after 4 days, I'm finding I'm whacking up the bass on the 2EQ to max, and adjusting the treble to taste. On my 'Ray, tend to adjust the treble and the mids more, while maxing the bass. Series, parallel whatever, the SUB is one awesomely fine value bass. Oh aye, piccy of my EBMM "collection":
23. Now in my appreciative hands. After a quick play, its f*****g awesome VFM. Build and tone as good as my USA 2009 EBMM 'Ray, and loving the 2EQ. Now for some flats and I'll be in heaven. Cheers.
24.
There is a MM SUB for sale just now for £340 or so....great USA built MM bass
Yeah, just bought it.... Seriously, the SUB is a great budget option if you're into the 'Ray sound. Have had MIM P bass and also the Hohnner B2A 'Berger clone in my time, the latter is a great go-to/sofa/travel bass, also lightweight for prolonged gigs. Sound is leagues above the P in terms of versatility, however for some folks, only a P will do...
